Chapter 1165: The Final Chapter (9)

"Meng Yan?"

Huo Jiayuan looked at him with concern and gently moved closer, "You...you don't like these?"

Then the last firework shone brightly in the sky.

It was a special design she created, a dazzling display of lights, like thousands of stars shining, with the initials of his name, MY, written in the very center of the light.

“Meng Yan, MY.” She smiled, “meaning ‘mine’!”

"Meng Yan, do you like this?"

"Meng Yan?"

However, he stood frozen in place, like a cold statue.

His heart was pounding, and he could no longer hear the world around him. In his ears, there was only one sound: the roar of war.

It was the screams of the team he led, fighting to the very last moment.

It was his father, Meng Xi, who let out that final, desperate growl.

He suddenly covered his ears, squatted down helplessly, and felt a splitting headache.

"No...no..."

"Meng Yan!"

Huo Jiayuan was startled by him.

She tried to hug him, but he pushed her away!

She fell and hurt herself, but ignoring the pain, she got up and hugged him again.

"Meng Yan, what's wrong? Don't scare me!"

Meng Yan's body trembled, large beads of sweat pouring from his forehead. His soul seemed to be devoured by demons, and a turbulent sea surged in his eyes…

"Meng Yan!"

Huo Jiayuan's voice was trembling with tears.

Fireworks continued to burst across the night sky, but the person before me…

"What's wrong with you? Are you feeling unwell? Talk to me! Meng Yan..."

Meng Yan pushed her again!

This time, Huo Jiayuan couldn't hold back and burst into tears. But the man, who would normally feel heartache even if she just frowned, remained unmoved.

...

Huo Jiayuan returned to her residence in the Grand Palace, feeling utterly dejected.

As soon as she entered the door, she sat on the sofa, a deep sense of powerlessness climbing up her heart like vines.

The nanny brought her a late-night snack, but she had no appetite and shook her head wearily. Just then, someone's voice came from outside: "How did your date go?"

Huo Jiayuan barely managed to look up and saw He Chen walk in with a smile, holding a small cake in his hand.

"These were just made by the palace pastry chef; you can't find them anywhere else! Want to try some?"

Huo Jiayuan remained silent.

He Chen noticed that she wasn't in a good mood, but since she didn't say anything, he didn't ask. He continued to make conversation: "Did your boyfriend like the fireworks display tonight? Hey, did you tell him that I put a lot of effort into it? Although I wasn't involved in the design, I arranged for the people to set off the fireworks, and..."

"Can you give me some peace and quiet?" Huo Jiayuan glanced at him helplessly.

He Chen smiled somewhat awkwardly and said, "Get some rest." Just as he was about to leave, he suddenly noticed that she was injured!

My arms, wrists, and palms all have abrasions of varying degrees!

"Huo Jiayuan?" He Chen was taken aback. "Weren't you going on a date?"

"what?"

Huo Jiayuan was startled by the person who suddenly rushed over.

He Chen didn't care about anything else and stepped forward to grab her hand. Huo Jiayuan pushed him away forcefully, but in the struggle, he touched her injured area.

Huo Jiayuan let out a soft cry of pain.

"This is..." He Chen exclaimed in disbelief, "He did this to you?"

"No, I injured myself by falling!"

"Where have you been? How did you get so badly injured?"

"Don't worry about it!"

"Huo Jiayuan!" He Chen shouted, "Explain yourself today, is that person treating you badly?"

Huo Jiayuan had a splitting headache.

How could Meng Yan possibly treat her badly?

His behavior tonight was really unusual.

He Chen looked at her quietly, not pressing for more information. After a long silence, he quietly walked towards the door.

“I’ll get the doctor over,” he said in a low voice. “You need to get this wound treated quickly, it’ll get infected and that wouldn’t be good. Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone about your injury. As for that person… if you’re really finding it tiring to be around him, maybe you should reconsider…”

"don't want!"

The name Huo Jiayuan was spoken with absolute certainty, and He Chen's heart tightened.

“I understand your good intentions, and I’m very grateful that you’re thinking of me.” She looked up at him. “But I don’t feel tired at all when I’m with him. Today was just an accident. He’s not like this before.”

"Don't be love-struck, he seems perfect in every way!" He Chen gave a wry smile. "By the way, is he hiding something from you?"

"What?"

"You said he wasn't like this before... So that means he became a different person as soon as he came to Southeast Asia?" He Chen raised an eyebrow and chuckled. "Could he be possessed by some evil spirit in Southeast Asia?"

Huo Jiayuan gave him a reproachful look.

"Did you know that there are wizards in our Grand Palace? Why don't you bring your boyfriend here and let the wizard see what's wrong with him?"

"This is getting more and more outrageous!"

“Don’t disbelieve this!” He Chen said seriously. “The priesthood in the royal family has been a tradition for hundreds of years, but it’s just never mentioned to outsiders.”

Huo Jiayuan pushed and shoved him out.

However, though the speaker meant no harm, she, as the listener, took it to heart.

She had heard since childhood that witchcraft was prevalent in Southeast Asia, and sometimes these mysterious and supernatural phenomena could not be explained by science.

But she couldn't rashly bring Meng Yan to the palace.

If she wants to bring him, she must first obtain his consent.

Huo Jiayuan sighed softly, collapsed onto the bed, and closed her eyes wearily, her wounds still throbbing.
