Chapter 12 I don't want her under these circumstances

After dinner, Jiang Can cut up some fruit and brought it over, then sat down next to Gu Mang.

The man was looking at his phone the whole time. Jiang Can curiously leaned over for a look. She thought he was playing games, but it turned out he was looking at a foreign website. The people in the pictures were all dressed in suits and looked like successful people.

Jiang Can paused, just as Gu Mang suddenly turned his head. Jiang Can was so close that she almost bumped her nose against his. The two stared at each other blankly, her face burning and her heart pounding.

"What's wrong?" Gu Mang asked in a low voice.

"N-nothing...it's nothing." Jiang Can sat down awkwardly to the side, her small hands nervously twisting together, and forced a smile as she tried to make conversation, "Are you watching the news?"

"Yes, financial news."

"You know about this?"

Gu Mang turned his face again, his hawk-like eyes displaying a half-smile, "Then what do you think someone who has been in a fight and served time in jail should know?"

"That's not what I meant!" Jiang Can's face flushed red. "I was a little surprised. I didn't expect you to know so much."

The atmosphere suddenly fell silent, an awkward silence settling in. Jiang Can felt a little nervous, but looking at Gu Mang's composed expression, she realized her nervousness was unnecessary.

They're a legally married couple, but they feel so awkward sitting together; they can even kill a conversation.

Jiang Can patted her head, secretly wondering if she was being too stupid.

This little action didn't escape Gu Mang's notice.

A smile, which he himself didn't even notice, flickered across his lips.

Gu Mang put down his phone, ate fruit with a fork, and casually asked her, "Is there something you want to tell me?"

Jiang Can hummed in response, then shook her head. "No."

“Oh,” he said, glancing at her, “is there enough money at home?”

Why are you suddenly asking this?

"Just chatting," Gu Mang said calmly. "How do other couples chat? Isn't it just about these everyday things?"

Jiang Can bit her lip and remained silent.

"Or... shall we talk somewhere else?"

The man looked towards the bedroom, his deep voice carrying a hint of ambiguity, his warm breath gradually approaching her. Jiang Can looked up and met his deep eyes, where sparks seemed to flicker.

She tried to move to the side, but he grabbed her waist with his large hand, and she bumped into his arms.

Jiang Can froze completely.

Gu Mang's eyes grew increasingly intense.

He tightened his grip on her waist, but made no further move. He looked at her; the petite woman's eyes were tightly closed, and although she tried her best to relax, her trembling body betrayed her fear of being with a man for the first time.

A feeling of tenderness suddenly welled up in Gu Mang's heart.

He didn't want her under these circumstances; things should have happened naturally.

"You must be tired today," Jiang Can heard his low, hoarse voice. "Get some rest."

She was startled, feeling the force binding her disappear, and the scorching temperature in the air slowly subsided.

She couldn't quite describe how she felt.

This man should be the closest person to her in the world, but she has only known him for a few days.

Besides, she has a knot in her heart; she was a substitute bride, a fact that Gu Mang probably doesn't know yet...

She had also mustered the courage to admit to him that she wasn't Jiang Yao, but Jiang Can. But each time the words reached her lips, she hesitated. If Gu Mang thought the Jiang family had deceived him and started a fight, who knew how far it would escalate? He had a fiery temper; fighting was commonplace for him. What if…

She glanced at the punching bag and boxing gloves in the yard and immediately abandoned the idea.

"I told you to get some rest, why are you spacing out?" Gu Mang said in a low voice.

Jiang Can suddenly came to her senses and walked into the bedroom, but at that moment she received a call from Yin Cheng.

"Sister, don't worry, Mom's medical expenses are covered!"

"What?" Jiang Can couldn't believe her ears. "Where did you get the money?"

"Sister Jiang Yao brought it over today," Yin Cheng said with a smile. "She brought a diamond necklace, saying it's part of your dowry from your father, worth 300,000!"
