Huo Zhixing's expression was aloof, with a deep look in his eyes.
He looked at Fu Xiuyu quietly.
He didn't know why she had such a strong prejudice against Jiang Can, but he knew that he had to do everything in his power to protect his woman.
"It's settled then," Fu Xiuyu said coldly. "Although you and Yao Manning aren't engaged, both families have tacitly agreed to this over the years, so it might be a bit troublesome to handle."
"But you don't need to worry, I'll handle things with the Yao family!"
Fu Xiuyu walked up to him and gently patted his shoulder twice. "Just do as your mother says and cultivate your relationship with that girl I mentioned!"
"Impossible." Huo Zhixing uttered three cold, hard words.
The atmosphere froze instantly, and the temperature plummeted to freezing.
Fu Xiuyu looked at him, her gaze serious and sharp.
“Mom,” Huo Zhixing said, enunciating each word clearly, “if you insist on doing this, I will withdraw all my shares from Yufeng Media!”
"What did you say?" she exclaimed in surprise.
“You should know that the rules in Central City are different from those in Manchester.” His voice was calm, but every word carried weight. “If I don’t own any shares in this company, foreign investment cannot be injected, and you will see no return on your initial investment!”
“I know you don’t lack that money,” he said coldly, “but you don’t like the feeling of failure!”
"If this gets to your grandfather's ears, the board of directors' ears, or even your uncle's ears, you'll become a laughing stock in the Fu Group!"
"So you're sure you really want to force me?"
Fu Xiuyu's heart skipped a beat.
"In short, I won't date that person you mentioned." Huo Zhixing walked to the door, glanced back at her, and said, "Just give up on that idea!"
...
After submitting her manuscript, Jiang Can took a leave of absence from the newspaper to stay home and take care of Yin Wenxi.
Although Yoon Moon-hee said she didn't need her care, she was still worried. She always remembered what the doctor had said: mental illness is not something that can be resolved overnight; one must be extremely cautious and attentive.
"Mom, I'm going to the supermarket to buy some things." She glanced at her watch. "Wait for me to come back and make lunch. Don't go into the kitchen and do anything!"
Yin Wenxi was both amused and exasperated. "What are you talking about? Do you think I'm a three-year-old?"
Jiang Can smiled, turned around and gave her a hug. "Anyway, you have to be good. If you're not, you're not allowed to watch TV this afternoon!"
Yin Wenxi had no choice but to raise her like a child!
"You little brat, I need to get my son-in-law to teach you a lesson!"
The mother and daughter burst into laughter.
Jiang Can finished packing and headed out, but as soon as she opened the door, she looked up and saw an uninvited guest.
Fu Xiuyu wore a faint smile, her powerful aura still radiating from her. Seeing Jiang Can's wary expression, she explained softly:
"Your mother and I used to be very good friends."
Jiang Can nodded silently, but still didn't let her in.
Fu Xiuyu laughed. This little princess was quite alert. Yes, that's right, that's how it should be!
“Child, she and I are really good friends, best friends. We drifted apart because of some misunderstandings.” Fu Xiuyu said more sincerely, “But please believe me, I have absolutely no intention of harming her, and I came here today specifically to see her.”
Jiang Can paused, noticing the gifts she was carrying; they all appeared to be very expensive skincare products.
"Is this bird's nest?" Jiang Can suddenly had an idea and smiled slightly. "I'll accept it on behalf of my mother. Thank you, Auntie."
"This isn't bird's nest, it's fish maw." Fu Xiuyu was taken aback. "Oh, your mother has a serious case of mysophobia. When she was little, she found out once that bird's nest was made from swallows' saliva, and she never ate it again!"
After speaking, Fu Xiuyu met Jiang Can's clear eyes and realized that she had been tested by this young girl.
If she were a fake best friend, how could she remember such trivial details?
"You child..." Her smile was full of affection; the more she looked at her, the more she liked her.
Jiang Can stepped aside to let her in, and Yin Wenxi was stunned when she saw her.
"Mom, Auntie came here specifically to see you."
Yin Wenxi was silent for a moment, and seeing that Jiang Can was still standing to the side, she smiled and said to her, "Go buy your things, I'll talk to Auntie alone for a while."
Jiang Can pursed her lips and stood there motionless.
"There's nothing to worry about!" Yin Wenxi waved her hand. "This aunt is Mom's best friend!"
Jiang Can nodded, but before leaving, she whispered to Yin Wenxi to keep her phone safe and call her immediately if anything happened.
Fu Xiuyu watched Jiang Can's retreating figure, her eyes filled with complex emotions.
"Envious, aren't you?" Yin Wenxi raised an eyebrow, got up to boil water and make tea, and said with a smug smile, "I could tell at the calligraphy and painting exhibition that day that you were especially envious of me having a daughter!"
Fu Xiuyu rolled her eyes.
This person is just like before, always trying to outdo her in everything!
Fine, I'll just let her have her way this time, just like before.
"Yes, it's wonderful to have a daughter," Fu Xiuyu chuckled. "But you'd better keep a close eye on her, lest she marry the wrong person and end up like you!"
"Fu Xiuyu! You..."
This person is still the same as before, never willing to admit defeat in a verbal exchange!
The two stared at each other for a long time, their expressions shifting rapidly.
They were both born into nobility, and now, after half a lifetime of vicissitudes, they return as the same girls who once stood by each other's side.
They both laughed at the same time.
So many years have passed without any news, yet when we finally meet, we still have so much to talk about.
Poor Jiang Can, she could have gone to the supermarket in twenty minutes, but she got a call from her mom telling her to come back later.
So she pushed the cart, weaving through the shelves again and again, practically memorizing all the price tags...
