It was Jiang Can's turn to take a day off.
Even on her days off, she was constantly busy. Reports, plans, and proposals poured into her inbox like snowflakes, and her phone and computer were never idle from early morning.
Aunt Cen heated up breakfast for her a third time and brought it to her.
"Miss, hurry up and eat!" Aunt Cen said anxiously. "It's already nine o'clock. If you keep dragging this out, you might as well just have lunch now!"
Jiang Can kept her eyes glued to the screen and replied casually, "Um... I know, just leave it here for now. There are still a few words to change in this contract..."
"You said the same thing when I brought it over last time!"
Aunt Cen pouted, stood in front of her, and handed her the eight-treasure porridge.
"This time, the young master personally instructed us that you must drink it!"
"Huh?" Jiang Can took a moment to react before looking up from the computer screen. "Zhi Xing... isn't home?"
"He's not here!" Aunt Cen laughed. "He told you before he left that he had urgent business to attend to at the company today!"
"Oh, I forgot..."
"You didn't forget, you were just too busy to hear!"
Jiang Can smiled sheepishly, admitting that sometimes when she was busy, her ears were indeed blocked out.
She took the eight-treasure porridge from Aunt Cen. It was just the right temperature and sweetness, with the fragrance of red dates and grains.
She was indeed hungry and began to eat heartily.
Aunt Cen then handed her an egg pancake, which she devoured in no time.
Aunt Cen watched her from the side, smiling. "Eating so much... could it be that there's good news?"
Jiang Can was choked by those words and coughed violently.
"Aunt Cen, are you kidding me!" she exclaimed, both amused and exasperated. "My period just ended, what good news could I possibly have!"
"Oh..." The old man looked somewhat disappointed.
She turned her gaze to the fertility talisman on the headboard of their bed... Sigh, it seems that her skills are really too shallow. Even if she made a fertility talisman, it was useless. It couldn't help them have a child!
“Auntie,” Jiang Can smiled innocently, her eyes clear, “I’ve had a checkup before, and the doctor said I have a weak constitution and it’s not easy for me to get pregnant… so as for having children, I’ll just let nature take its course!”
"You have a weak constitution?" Aunt Cen perked up. It didn't matter if you had a weak constitution, as long as you weren't infertile!
"This can be treated! Miss, please leave it to me!"
"Um?"
"You don't know, there are all kinds of soup recipes in my hometown, and the area is rich in herbs, so these recipes can be made with local ingredients!"
“Miss Jiang,” Aunt Cen said, holding her hand with a beaming smile, “starting today, we’ll have soup three times a day, morning, noon, and night. Oh no, we’ll add another time during afternoon tea. I promise to nourish your body so you and the young master can have a big, healthy son!”
“Aunt Cen…” Jiang Can’s face showed a complex expression that was hard to describe.
If you drink this soup like this, you'll gain weight like a ball in less than a month.
"Let me tell you, there's a lot to learn about making soup! When I was a kid in my hometown, many people would have minor illnesses or pains, but they wouldn't go to the hospital. They could just drink some soup at home and the problem would be solved!"
Once Aunt Cen starts talking, it's hard to stop; she gets more and more excited as she talks.
However, just as she was about to describe to Jiang Can the benefits of drinking soup every day, the doorbell suddenly rang.
Jiang Can was taken aback. Usually, no one came to her house, not even Lin Yuqing.
Who's ringing the doorbell this time?
She felt a little nervous, and the first thing that came to her mind was that the Huo family had arrived.
What if it really is Huo Wenyuan or Huo Zhanpeng? How should she face it?
They were all Huo Zhixing's closest and dearest people.
Aunt Cen looked at her and said, "It's alright, Miss Jiang. Stay here and don't move. I'll go open the door!"
Jiang Can was in a difficult position.
Aunt Cen ran downstairs quickly, and Jiang Can clearly heard the sound of the front door opening from upstairs. After a brief silence, cheerful laughter followed.
"Miss Jiang, look who's here!" Aunt Cen called out to her.
Jiang Can froze as soon as she reached the stairs.
"Zhi Xin?" She was both surprised and delighted, and rushed over. "How did you find this place!"
"What, you two moved to a new house and you didn't even come to let me congratulate you?" Huo Zhixin said playfully, placing the cake and red wine on the table.
Jiang Can held her hand, so happy she didn't know what to say, and hurriedly asked Aunt Cen to prepare lunch.
However, after she finished being happy, she realized that there was actually someone following Huo Zhixin.
The boy had fair skin, a slender build, and a gloomy look in his eyes.
Jiang Can was stunned.
“He…” She looked silently at Huo Zhixin.
"He's Yin Shaoqing!" Huo Zhixin exclaimed excitedly. "Sister, you haven't forgotten, have you? You two have met before!"
They had met before, but Jiang Can didn't have a good impression of this person the last time they met.
He was pale and gloomy, while Huo Zhixin was like a little sun; they seemed completely mismatched.
"And this is..." Aunt Cen recognized him as well, "He looks like the son of the Yin family?"
Yin Shaoqing nodded slightly, smiling, but the smile didn't reach his eyes.
Aunt Cen frowned, feeling an inexplicable unease in her heart.
The Yin family had served the Huo family for generations, and she had met several members of the Yin family before because of Cen Bo.
She had never seen a young man as pale and cold as Yin Shaoqing before.
Aunt Cen already had a bad feeling, but since it was the master's business, she couldn't interfere. So she smiled awkwardly and turned to go to the kitchen to prepare lunch.
Jiang Can pulled Huo Zhixin upstairs.
They said they were showing her the rooms, but they actually found a quiet place. Jiang Can quietly asked her, "Why did you bring Yin Shaoqing along?"
"Why can't he come?" Huo Zhixin asked honestly.
Jiang Can pursed her lips and said in a low voice, "Your brother doesn't like outsiders coming to our house..."
"Shao Qing isn't an outsider!"
"A kindred spirit..."
"Alright, alright! Let's not talk about this anymore, okay?" Huo Zhixin interrupted her, her smile as bright as stars. "Sister, can you show me your rooms? Oh, right, brother said he also saved a guest room for me. Is it all set up? Where is it?"
Jiang Can shook her head, somewhat helplessly.
She led Huo Zhixin by the hand through several rooms, when they heard Aunt Cen calling from downstairs.
"Hey, what are you doing?"
Jiang Can's heart skipped a beat, and as if by instinct, she quickly leaned over the stair railing to look down.
Yin Shaoqing was seen taking pictures around with his phone. When Aunt Cen tried to stop him, he remained unfazed and smiled slightly.
"I was taking pictures here just now because I saw some really beautiful paintings."
“Miss Jiang,” he looked up, “would you mind if I took photos in your home?”
