When Jiang Can arrived at the hospital, she saw Huo Zhixing and Wang Meiyun already waiting at the entrance of the emergency room.
"How is the situation?" she asked worriedly.
Huo Zhixing pulled her aside and whispered, "I'm not entirely sure of the specifics. I received a call from the manager of DL Building, saying that Zhixin fainted in their mall and tumbled down the stairs."
Jiang Can's heart clenched with anxiety.
"Why would she go to the mall?" she asked.
Huo Zhixing was taken aback, but didn't think too much about it. "Isn't it normal for a little girl to go shopping at malls sometimes? Besides, Zhixin is a black card customer of DL, she goes there often."
“What I mean is…” Jiang Can hesitated, then frowned slightly.
She wasn't sure if Huo Zhixin's fainting was related to Yin Shaoqing, but it did happen after the two of them left Xiyuan.
"Can Can, what's wrong?"
"I have something to tell you." Jiang Can pursed her lips, her gaze complicated. "We'd better find a quiet place, somewhere that Aunt Yun won't hear us..."
Before she could finish speaking, Wang Meiyun rushed over, shouting as she ran, "She's awake! Zhixing, your sister..."
"Can Can, you're here too?"
"Mm." Jiang Can nodded gently.
"Aunt Yun, is Zhixin alright now?"
"It's nothing." Wang Meiyun's eyes were red. "I just fell and hit my head. I had to get three stitches in my head."
Jiang Can bit her lip tightly, feeling a pang of sadness.
"Can we go in and see her now?"
"Not yet, the doctor said we have to wait a while." Wang Meiyun shook her head, forcing a smile. "This child doesn't watch where she's going, I've told her off countless times, and look, she really did take a big fall today! It's good that she fell, it'll teach her a lesson!"
Huo Zhixing stepped forward and gently patted her shoulder.
From childhood, Wang Meiyun had always been a strong and optimistic person in his memory, but he knew that although she said that, she was more heartbroken than anyone else at this moment.
The nurse came over and told them they could go into the ward, and Wang Meiyun hurried over.
Huo Zhixing put his arm around Jiang Can and said, "Aunt Yun's birthday banquet is coming up soon, but now that Zhixin has fallen, I'm afraid she won't be in the mood for a big celebration."
"But the Huo family will not take her feelings into consideration; they will not skip any of the necessary ceremonies."
"So... the birthday party is still going to be held?" Jiang Can was taken aback.
"Hmm." Huo Zhixing smiled wryly and patted her hair. "Families like ours are all cold-hearted."
"The point of everyone's birthday and every holiday is not the significance of the day itself, but the banquet. A banquet is a place for fame and fortune, a place for exchanging resources and building connections. Who would want to miss this opportunity? Besides, the invitations were sent out a month ago. If it is suddenly canceled, there will definitely be criticism from the outside world."
Jiang Can nodded gently.
"What are you thinking about?" Huo Zhixing's heart began to pound when he saw that she hadn't spoken for a long time.
Will she find this family too difficult to manage and therefore not want to marry into it?
Thinking of this, he felt a chill run down his spine and cold sweat broke out on his forehead.
“I was thinking…” Jiang Can looked up at him and said softly, “It must have been really tough for you to grow up in this kind of environment.”
Huo Zhixing narrowed his eyes, a surge of secret joy rising within him. Was she feeling sorry for him?
He immediately seized the opportunity, gently stroking her small hand in his own. "It has been a bit tough, which is why I want to cherish you even more after meeting you."
"Yes!" Jiang Can's gaze was firm. "I will protect you well from now on!"
Huo Zhixing was taken aback, then couldn't help but laugh.
Back in Jiangzhou, she vowed to support him for life.
Now they say they'll protect him well.
He once thought that fate had been unfair to him, making him live in the shadow of deceit and treachery from childhood, and that he knew from the age of three that he could be poisoned or assassinated at any time, and that he was always on guard against the whole world.
He was deprived of the sunshine of the world, his heart became calloused, and he could no longer appreciate the beauty of humanity.
But after meeting Jiang Can, he understood that fate would make up for all the debts it owed to a person in another way.
It was only after meeting Jiang Can that he realized he actually had a knack for playing the victim in front of women…
Huo Zhixing smiled and gently pinched her little face.
Just then, footsteps came from the other end of the corridor.
Upon seeing the man's tall and slender figure, Jiang Can's heart trembled violently.
"Yin Shaoqing?"
Huo Zhixing was also taken aback, a hint of wariness flashing in his usually cold eyes. "What are you doing here?"
"Young Master, Miss Jiang?" Yin Shaoqing asked anxiously, "How is Miss Zhixin?"
Jiang Can observed his expression; his dark eyes were filled with worry for Huo Zhixin, lacking the fleeting gloom that had appeared at Xiyuan.
“My dear friend fell and had to get stitches in her head,” she told him truthfully.
"What?" Yin Shaoqing's lips twitched slightly, his expression sorrowful, looking like a man deeply in love.
"Third Young Master," he walked up to Huo Zhixing, bowed, and said humbly, "please allow me to go in and take care of Miss Zhixin, okay?"
"No need." Huo Zhixing coldly refused. "Yin Shaoqing, your Yin family has been working as long-term servants in the Huo family for three generations. You have always been loyal and dutiful."
"I hope you can continue to maintain this strength." His voice was low and stern, his expression authoritative. "After all, the Huo family won't treat you unfairly, right?"
"What you say is true, Third Young Master," Yin Shaoqing said in a trembling voice, "but I... I was really worried about Miss. I had some work to do today and couldn't be with her, and then she fell. It's all my fault, all my fault!"
