Chapter 39 The Ultimate Tonic Soup

Jiang Can had severe stomach pains and took a day off from work.

However, even lying at home didn't bring peace. From the moment I woke up in the morning, I could smell a strange Chinese medicine odor wafting from the kitchen.

Jiang Can forced herself out of bed and walked to the kitchen door. She saw Gu Mang bustling around inside.

On the table was the breakfast he had prepared for her: burnt fried eggs, charred toast, and a bowl of oatmeal porridge with almost no oatmeal.

It must have been tough on this man who had never been to the kitchen before.

Jiang Can smiled wryly, leaned against the kitchen door frame, and whispered to him, "You don't know how to cook, so I'll do it."

Gu Mang was taken aback and turned to look at her. "You're awake? Weren't you feeling unwell? Go back to bed after breakfast. I'll take care of these things."

What are you still busy with?

"Oh... I'll make you some soup." Gu Mang said hurriedly, "You go and rest, I'll bring the soup in for you when it's ready!"

Jiang Can pursed his lips, feeling a warmth in his heart, when suddenly a thought popped into his mind: Was he this considerate to his "white moonlight" before?

A sixteen-year-old boy, full of youthful vigor and boundless enthusiasm...

Thinking about it, Jiang Can's smile froze, and the knot in her heart tightened again. Coupled with the lower abdominal pain from standing for a long time, she became even more agitated.

Just then, Gu Mang turned around and looked at her.

Jiang Can glared at him, turned around and went back to her room, closing the door behind her.

Gu Mang was completely baffled. He wondered if all women on their periods were masters of changing faces. One second they were smiling at him, and the next they were glaring at him with angry eyes. They were so hard to please!

Bai Jingyuan sent him a message asking him to come to the Emperor Hotel to discuss business. He turned off the stove and was about to tell Jiang Can when there was a knock on the door.

Lin Yuqing was standing outside the door. She had heard that Jiang Can was not feeling well, so she took the opportunity of running errands to come and see her.

"You are... Gu Mang?" She was stunned when the door opened.

This was her first time meeting Gu Mang, and he was completely different from what she had imagined. She had thought that men who had been involved in fights and imprisoned were more or less roguish, or even rather gloomy.

However, Gu Mang was tall and handsome, with a sharp, resolute face and a deep, unfathomable gaze that revealed his emotions. His powerful aura caused Lin Yuqing to involuntarily take two steps back.

"Yes, that's me," Gu Mang said in a low voice. "Are you Lin Yuqing?"

"Nice to meet you," Lin Yuqing said with a light laugh.

Gu Mang stepped aside to let her in.

As soon as Lin Yuqing entered the room, she smelled the pungent smell of Chinese medicine and couldn't help but frown.

"What, is she seriously ill?" Lin Yuqing looked at him. "Why does she still need to take medicine?"

"She had been having stomach pains, and I heard about a recipe that said making a soup with these ingredients would help relieve the pain."

"Oh." Lin Yuqing nodded thoughtfully.

Her mother was a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine and also an expert in gynecology, so she grew up surrounded by traditional Chinese medicine. The moment she smelled the aroma, she sensed something was wrong and thought she'd have to check what was stewing in the pot later. After all, it was something that would be eaten, and she needed to be careful for Jiang Can.

"Sister Yuqing, you're here?" Jiang Can came out of the room. "I'm so sorry, it's just menstrual cramps, but I made it sound like I was seriously ill, and I had to trouble you to come see me..."

"This is no small matter for a woman," Lin Yuqing smiled. "You don't look well; are you in a lot of pain?"

"Hmm." Jiang Can frowned. "Sister Yuqing, could you please go to your mother's and get me two more boxes of painkillers? This medicine is really effective; it worked perfectly for me last time!"

"Do you even need painkillers?" Lin Yuqing pointed to the kitchen and chuckled. "Your husband made you a nourishing soup, much better than painkillers!"

Jiang Can looked up at her, and Gu Mang stood to the side, smiling at her.

He said goodbye and left, just like always, without saying who he was with or what time he would be home. He only said that if it was too late, there was no need to wait for him to come back for dinner.

Jiang Can watched his retreating figure and sighed softly.

"Something's not right about that," Lin Yuqing said with a smile. "Our little Cancan seems to have something on her mind?"

Jiang Can bit her lip and told him everything about her "white moonlight".

Lin Yuqing listened to the whole thing from beginning to end and couldn't help but laugh so hard she almost fell over.

"Just for this? Jiang Can, you're going to all this trouble for a hypothetical enemy? You're hilarious!"

"I know I'm being paranoid, and without any real evidence, my thinking is indeed quite absurd." Jiang Can sat on the sofa with her knees drawn up to her chest, her small hands supporting her chin, her big eyes full of confusion. "But I just can't control myself."

"Are you stupid!" Lin Yuqing tried to comfort her. "You're just overthinking things! You can't just misunderstand someone based on a single sentence he didn't finish saying, can you? Maybe he didn't mean it at all!"

"Even if he really did have a first love, that's all in the past. He still ended up marrying you, didn't he? What are you afraid of!"

"Besides," Lin Yuqing pouted, "a man like that, with no background, no job, and a bit of a past, do you think anyone would want to fight you for him? Only you would treat him like a treasure!"

"What are you saying!" Jiang Can glanced at her playfully, then smiled lightly.

Talking to Lin Yuqing made me feel much better, and even my stomachache lessened. However, just then, the clay pot on the stove started making a hissing sound, and the medicine almost overflowed.

Lin Yuqing darted over and lifted the lid.

After seeing the ingredients of the herbal soup, her expression suddenly changed.
