Jiang Mianmian laughed happily and tugged at his ear.
"Doraemon doesn't seem to have ears."
“I’m different.” Huo Junyu’s eyes crinkled with laughter. “I’m Jiang Mianmian’s personal Doraemon, the only one of its kind in the world! That’s why I have ears.”
What's the use of your ears?
Huo Junyu leaned closer, nuzzling his nose against her cheek, his voice low and husky: "For... to be at your beck and call anytime!"
Jiang Mianmian felt a warmth in her heart and gently hugged him.
Because of him, she is no longer afraid of anything.
The two entered the Lu family's house hand in hand. There seemed to be quite a few people in the living room.
Before Huo Junyu could even see who was there, he heard Huo Junyang's enthusiastic, loud voice: "Brother!"
Huo Junyu was taken aback. "You're here too?"
"You're allowed to accompany your wife back to her parents' home, but can't I come to see my dearest Uncle Ashan and Aunt Yuqing?"
Huo Junyang was still the same carefree and sunny boy he always was. He quickly forgot about the argument the two brothers had had at the horse farm.
Huo Junyu felt both gratified and worried about his younger brother's personality.
The good news is that carefree people tend to have better sleep quality. They forget their worries quickly, are healthier, and live longer.
The worry is...
Huo Junyu glanced at the sofa.
Sure enough, what he feared happened; Huo Junyang completely disregarded their advice.
Besides Lu Ran, Cheng Suyue was also sitting on the sofa.
Huo Junyu frowned and exchanged a glance with Jiang Mianmian, both of them looking at each other with unspoken doubt.
"Young Master!" Cheng Suyue greeted him politely with a gentle smile.
Huo Junyu nodded slightly and sat down on the sofa opposite Jiang Mianmian.
Lu Lishan served his daughter and son-in-law the finest tea.
“Dad,” Jiang Mianmian looked at him, “I have something I want to tell you…”
"Okay, go ahead and say it."
"Dad..." Jiang Mianmian hesitated.
"Is it about work?" Cheng Suyue suddenly asked. "That incident has been making quite a stir lately, is it... about the Lu Group project?"
Huo Junyu chuckled softly, "Aunt Cheng, you're quite well-informed."
"Of course!" Huo Junyang laughed. "Auntie is keeping up with the times! Besides, Ranran will be coming back to work in the future, so Auntie definitely needs to pay more attention to this kind of news."
"Is the situation... serious?" Cheng Suyue looked at Jiang Mianmian with concern. "I only know that the project was plagiarized, but we don't have any evidence yet. So... is it impossible to sue them?"
“Yes.” Jiang Mianmian nodded. “Aunt Cheng, you don’t need to worry about this. I will handle it.”
"Oh," Cheng Suyue said awkwardly, lowering her head timidly, "Was I being too nosy and making you unhappy?"
"Auntie... what?"
"If this upsets you, then I won't say anything."
Cheng Suyue moved to the side, as if trying to isolate herself from the others.
Their cautious and timid manner was somewhat disheartening to see.
Jiang Mianmian thought she had been too cold just now, and hurriedly explained, "Auntie, I didn't mean that! Please don't misunderstand."
"It's alright, it's alright!" Cheng Suyue looked up at her and chuckled. "We're family, after all. We heard that Lu's Group had some problems, and Ranran and I were worried too."
Huo Junyu gently squeezed Jiang Mianmian's hand.
Perhaps he was the only one in this room who remained calm.
“Aunt Cheng,” Huo Junyu smiled slightly, “please don’t misunderstand Mianmian. Actually, we two younger generation members lack experience in this area and would like to hear the opinions of our elders.”
"Yeah?"
"Oh, right, Dad." Huo Junyu then looked at Lu Lishan, "My parents brought you two a gift. It's in my car, a bottle of good wine, and they said they insisted on handing it to you both in person... Why don't you come with me for a moment?"
Lu Lishan and Lin Yuqing readily agreed.
Before Huo Junyu led them away from the living room, he gave Jiang Mianmian a wink.
Jiang Mianmian understood, but remained calm and continued chatting with Cheng Suyue.
"Speaking of what happened earlier..." Cheng Suyue paused, then lowered her voice, "Mianmian, that Pei Nian in your house... she's always hanging around the study door! We even argued about it last time. Don't you think she's suspicious?"
"Nian Nian?"
"Mom!" Lu Ran said anxiously, "What are you saying..."
"This is just casual conversation!" Cheng Suyue chuckled. "I always felt that this kind of thing must have been leaked by someone on the inside. Of course, we family members wouldn't betray us, but outsiders could be!"
"mom!"
Lu Ran glanced at her, then looked apologetically at Jiang Mianmian, "Sister, my mom didn't mean it, don't take it seriously!"
Before Jiang Mianmian could say anything, she suddenly saw Pei Nian standing not far away with a fruit platter.
Jiang Mianmian's heart tightened.
Pei Nian remained as aloof as ever, her face expressionless. However, as she placed the fruit plate on the table, she glanced at Cheng Suyue and coldly uttered four words:
"The thief cries 'Stop thief!'"
Pei Nian's voice wasn't loud, but the living room was quiet, and everyone present could hear it.
"What...what did you say?" Cheng Suyue was shocked, then clutched her chest, looking like she was in great pain.
Pei Nian gave a cold laugh, turned around and walked away as if nothing had happened.
The remaining people were a little flustered. Jiang Mianmian was worried that something might happen to Cheng Suyue at her home, while Huo Junyang and Lu Ran's expressions changed. Lu Ran even shouted, "Pei Nian, stop right there!"
Pei Nian stopped walking without turning around.
"Why...why did you say that about my mother?" Lu Ran went over to argue with her, "You heard what my mother just said, didn't you? She didn't mean to say that!"
