Lin Zhaojiang would wait at the kindergarten gate every day without fail. He said he was there to pick up Huo Jiayuan, but in reality, he just wanted to catch a glimpse of Song Wan.
He loved the smile she had when she was with the children.
She is beautiful and pure, just like when she was by his side.
Lin Zhaojiang often wondered, if their child were still alive, wouldn't they be in this kindergarten now? If it weren't for that one wrong decision, he and Song Wan would have had a much better ending.
Instead of now, where he doesn't dare to approach and can only catch a glimpse of her from afar.
"Uncle? Uncle!"
The childlike calls pulled Lin Zhaojiang back to reality.
He then realized that he was holding a child's hand. The child was staring at him with bright, big eyes, pouting his little lips in displeasure.
"Uncle, we've been standing here for a long time!"
"Oh..." Lin Zhaojiang licked his lips and pulled her towards the parking lot across the street.
"Uncle, aren't you tired of doing this every day?"
"What?"
Huo Jiayuan smiled mischievously, "Do you like Teacher Song?"
Lin Zhaojiang froze, his face suddenly changing. The more guilty he felt, the louder he unconsciously raised his voice, "You little brat, what nonsense are you spouting! You can't just say things like that!"
"Hmph!" Huo Jiayuan pouted. "I may be young, but I'm not blind! Uncle, when you look at Teacher Song, your eyes almost popped out, don't you know that?!"
"you……"
Lin Zhaojiang almost couldn't catch his breath. "My eyes are perfectly fine, you don't need to worry about them!"
Huo Jiayuan blinked her big eyes and jogged after him.
"Uncle! Uncle!"
"What are you doing!" Lin Zhaojiang said impatiently.
However, the moment his little hand took his, his heart softened again.
“Uncle,” Huo Jiayuan smiled sweetly at him, “how about you treat me to ice cream and I’ll tell you a secret about Teacher Song?”
Lin Zhaojiang was amused by her.
As expected of a descendant of the Huo family, he knows how to trade at such a young age.
"Ha, I won't fall for your tricks, you little brat!"
Huo Jiayuan looked at him blankly.
But not long after, her unsuspecting great-uncle took her to a dessert shop and ordered her signature vanilla ice cream.
Huo Jiayuan ate with great relish, and of course, she didn't forget her promise to Lin Zhaojiang.
"Uncle, listen carefully!" She wiped her mouth and told him in a serious tone, "Teacher Song seems to... want to eat bird's nest porridge!"
Lin Zhaojiang's eyes widened. "I'll hit you! You brat!"
After waiting for so long, all he got was this secret, and he even lost an ice cream. He must be crazy to believe this little devil's nonsense!
"If you want to eat bird's nest porridge, go back to your own home! Your parents will let you eat your fill!"
"It's true!" Huo Jiayuan's face turned red with anxiety. "Once, my piano teacher, Ms. Xu, ordered a bowl of bird's nest porridge, and I overheard Ms. Song telling her that she had dreamed about eating it! Uncle, if Ms. Song didn't want to eat it, what was it?"
Lin Zhaojiang was stunned.
He thought for a long time, his expression gradually darkening. He knew Huo Jiayuan wasn't lying, but Song Wan didn't necessarily want to eat it; she might have genuinely dreamt about it.
She dreamt of their past, of him personally feeding her a bowl of bird's nest porridge.
Lin Zhaojiang was both excited and scared.
He both hoped that Song Wan would remember the past, and feared that she would remember the past. If he could, he only wished he could stay with her like this forever, see her smile, and help her fulfill all sorts of wishes.
For example, the bird's nest porridge she dreamed of...
The next day, Lin Zhaojiang instructed his men to handle the matter at the Lixing Hotel.
"Tell the manager to deliver it around 3 p.m., and that it should be warm. We can't eat cold food every night."
"Understood." The subordinate nodded. "Miss Song seems to have a sweet tooth. Would you like an extra serving of rock sugar?"
"Um."
"Yes, Mr. Lin, I'll take care of it right away."
"Wait a minute!" Lin Zhaojiang suddenly remembered something, and after a moment of silence, said, "Order one for all the kindergarten teachers."
"What? Isn't this only for Miss Song?"
"Do as I say."
She would feel uncomfortable if it were only given to her, but if it were given to everyone, she could also have some.
"After you order it, give it to my senior sister and have her distribute it. Just say it's a treat for the teachers because of Yuan Yuan."
Although his subordinates did not understand the intention, they did as he was told.
After that day, the kindergarten teachers kept receiving such "rewards," sometimes exquisite refreshments, or a sweet ice cream.
People started whispering, "Is this Mr. Lin, who delivers things all the time, Huo Jiayuan's great-uncle? He looks so young!"
"He's not old at all! It's said that he and Mrs. Lu are half-siblings, more than ten years apart! He's only about forty years old this year!"
"He's a highly eligible bachelor?"
"What, you have something on your mind?"
"He's handsome, rich, and older but still knows how to take care of people. Marrying him would mean a worry-free life. Who wouldn't be tempted? Hahaha..."
The group huddled together and laughed, then turned their attention to Song Wan.
"Teacher Song, what do you think?"
"Huh?" Song Wan was taken aback before she came to her senses.
She was working on her presentation slides for the next day's class, so she chuckled and shook her head, not joining their discussion.
However, she still felt unsettled.
The bird's nest porridge that Lin Zhaojiang sent last time had already surprised her. She only took one bite and felt an overwhelming sense of familiarity.
And the pastries that were delivered each time seemed to be made according to her taste.
Song Wan's heart was pounding, but reason told her to keep her distance from Lin Zhaojiang.
However, there seemed to be a force within her body that kept pulling her toward Lin Zhaojiang.
"Teacher Song, why aren't you answering the phone?"
Song Wan snapped out of her thoughts and realized her phone had been vibrating for a while. She went outside her office to answer it. "Hello, sis?"
"Wanwan," Song Xi stammered on the other end, "You...you've been in contact with Ruogu lately, haven't you? Has he...sayed when you're going to get married?"
