Chapter 841 Holding Hands (64)

"But……"

Before Pei Nian could finish speaking, the phone call ended.

Jiang Mianmian turned to look at her: "Is this Jingnan? Is there something you need?"

"Oh, no." Pei Nian smiled. "You dialed the wrong number."

She didn't care what major things Qin Yu was going through, and she didn't need triple salary.

Today is the weekend, a statutory holiday, and Jiang Mianmian is having a prenatal checkup, so she must stay by her side every step of the way.

Just then, the phone vibrated slightly; it was Qin Yu sending his location.

Pei Nian glanced at it and realized that the location was this hospital!

She was somewhat surprised.

Then another message came, this one much gentler in tone:

"Pei Nian, please help me. My daughter is in the hospital... I really have no other choice but to think of you. If I have offended you in any way before, please forgive me."

Pei Nian's fingers tightened slightly, and the image of the little princess gently holding her hand and calling her aunt vaguely appeared before her eyes.

At this point, Jiang Mianmian was led by several nurses to undergo the next examination.

Pei Nian asked softly through the door, "Sister Mianmian, I...I have a friend who works at this hospital. Can I go and say hello?"

"Oh, then go ahead!" Jiang Mianmian said. "I don't need you here for the time being, so hurry back!"

"Um!"

Pei Nian agreed and then quickly rushed to the pediatric ward.

The pediatrics department wasn't far from the obstetrics and gynecology department; she just went downstairs and turned the corner. As soon as she reached the corridor, she saw Qin Yu pacing back and forth with messy hair and dark circles under his eyes.

The pediatric ward was decorated in a cute and cozy style, but the crying coming from inside was hysterical.

Pei Nian was taken aback. "What's wrong?"

Qin Yu saw her as if she were his savior, and without saying a word, he pulled her into the ward.

"Warm and cozy!"

Pei Nian saw four or five nurses comforting the little princess on the small bed. Although the little princess's face was covered in tears, she was stubborn and, when she threw a tantrum, she was like a fearless little kitten, yelling fiercely in a cute but endearing way:

"I don't want a shot! I don't want one—"

"Qin Nuan!" Qin Yu was furious and glared at her angrily.

"You better behave yourself! If you dare to cause any more trouble, I'll break your legs!"

"Wow--"

Qin Nuan cried even harder, squirming on the bed and knocking over the blankets on the headboard.

Pei Nian glared at Qin Yu, then ran over and hugged Qin Nuan.

In that instant, it was as if she were embracing her past self.

Her mother once sent her to live with a family in the village. The male head of the household was an alcoholic and gambler, and would yell at and curse at her whenever he was unhappy.

Once, when she was sick with a fever and refused to take her medicine, the man yelled at her fiercely.

"If you dare cause any more trouble, I'll break your legs!"

Unlike Qin Yu, after yelling, the man actually picked up a broom and smashed it hard against her shin...

Pei Nian's heart skipped a beat, and she trembled involuntarily, hugging Qin Nuan even tighter.

Suddenly she heard a small voice coming from her arms:

"Auntie, are you cold?"

Pei Nian was stunned.

Looking down, I saw the little girl with big, watery eyes, and a tear in the corner of her eye.

A moment later, she reached out her little hand and gently touched her face.

"Auntie, Nuannuan is transferring her power to you, so don't tremble. Don't be afraid!"

Pei Nian felt a lump in her throat, and tears welled up in her eyes. It took a lot of effort for her not to lose her composure in front of the child.

"Thank you, Nuannuan. Auntie isn't cold anymore."

Pei Nian's voice was so gentle that even she was surprised.

"Nuan Nuan, can you tell me why you were crying just now?"

"They're going to give me a shot..."

Are you sick?

Qin Nuan looked at her pitifully, pointing her little finger to her stomach, "My tummy hurts..."

“Miss Nuannuan ate something that upset her stomach; she has gastroenteritis and a slight fever,” a person who looked like a nanny said. “Fortunately, it’s not acute; she just needs an IV drip.”

"So..." Pei Nian looked at Qin Yu, "Nuan Nuan didn't want to get a shot, so you called me here?"

Qin Yu coughed twice, straightened his body, and put his hands in his pants pockets.

He still looked like an elite, but he was so disheveled that he looked ridiculous.

Pei Nian gently comforted Qin Nuan, patted her little head, and dug out the story of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf from her limited childhood memories.

Her explanation was halting and some details were incorrect, but Qin Nuan listened with great interest and nestled obediently in her arms.

The nurse successfully inserted the needle into her little hand and started the IV drip. The chaotic ward that had just been filled with noise returned to calm.

Before long, Qin Nuan snuggled up to Pei Nian and fell asleep.

Pei Nian confirmed that she was fast asleep, carefully laid her down, gently covered her with a small blanket, and walked out of the room with Qin Yu.

As soon as he stepped outside, Qin Yu breathed a long sigh of relief.

His tie was askew, his shirt was unbuttoned, and his suit looked to be torn, apparently from being grabbed by the little princess.

Anyone who didn't know better would think he'd been robbed.

Pei Nian lowered her head and smiled.

Qin Yu looked slightly embarrassed and stammered for a while before finally saying, "...Thank you."

"Don't mention it," Pei Nian said casually. Then she took out her phone and saw a message from Jiang Mianmian.

—Niannian, don't worry, I'll be here for a while. The nurses will take good care of me.

“Um…” Qin Yu said, “I’ll transfer the money to you, you can keep it.”

“No need.” Pei Nian glanced at him. “I’m not your nanny. Besides, I really like Nuan Nuan, and I’m willing to take care of her.”

Qin Yu looked ashamed. "I really owe you a lot today."

“President Qin,” Pei Nian said seriously, “Children are young and have weak immune systems; it’s common for them to catch colds and fevers. But Nuannuan is your daughter, so please be more patient with her in the future!”

"A father who can't even handle his own daughter, and yet the child calls him 'Dad'!"

"You..." Qin Yu was furious at her retort, but what she said made perfect sense, so he could only hold back.

"Where's your wife?" Pei Nian asked. "The child has gastroenteritis, why isn't she here?"

Qin Yu sneered and subconsciously reached into his pocket for a cigarette, but when he glanced up and saw the no-smoking sign on the wall, he slowly put the cigarette back.

It's really frustrating not having any cigarettes.

He kicked the floor.

"She went back to her parents' home."

"What?"

"They had a fight," Qin Yu said casually. "Whenever they fight, she goes back to her parents' house and leaves the child with me... Nuannuan usually stays with her, but now she's abandoning her! That's her usual trick!"

Pei Nian couldn't listen anymore and frowned. "President Qin, the child doesn't just belong to the mother; the father also has a responsibility!"

“You usually just leave the kids with Mrs. Qin and you're out messing around outside. It's already pretty good that she's tolerated you for so long! If it were me…”

"What if it were you?" Qin Yu glanced at her sideways, a smirk playing on his lips. "What would you do if it were you?"
