She put on a coat, went outside into the courtyard, and saw Gu Mang doing his morning exercise.
He was shirtless, alternating between lifting dumbbells, his muscular physique, like small bricks, bathed in the morning light, making him seem like a sun god descending from the heavens. Jiang Can's face flushed slightly, and she greeted him softly, "So early!"
Gu Mang turned around and glanced at her indifferently.
Jiang Can looked around. The yard wasn't big and was a bit messy, with sandbags, boxing gloves, baseball bats, dumbbells, and other items scattered haphazardly. Her heart tightened. She didn't know if the rumors were true, but Gu Mang was definitely involved in fights quite often.
I wonder what kind of temper this man has?
I've heard that men here are very chauvinistic, and it's common for them to beat their wives when they're drunk.
Jiang Can bit her lip, took small steps forward, and almost breathlessly asked him, "Um... have you had breakfast?"
"No," the man said coldly. "Go ahead and do it."
Jiang Can nodded, then turned and ran into the kitchen.
She worked quickly and soon made a pot of millet porridge, fried an egg pancake, and even specially cut a plate of braised beef and pushed it in front of Gu Mang.
Gu Mang looked up and met her smiling eyes. Suddenly, he had a thought and picked up a piece of beef and put it on her plate.
Jiang Can was taken aback and was about to refuse when she heard the man's deep voice say, "Eat more, you're so thin!"
"oh……"
She pursed her lips; in fact, she had a lot to say to Gu Mang. For example, she wanted to apologize for last night. It was something perfectly normal for newlyweds, yet it felt like he had forced her.
For example, she might want to ask him about his future plans. They are husband and wife now, and they should have a plan for their future.
Furthermore, she still doesn't understand what his profession is, or how he supports his family...
They need to get to know each other better.
You can see that Gu Mang is only focused on eating. When he raises his hand, the thick calluses on his knuckles are clearly visible. These are the result of countless times hitting the sandbag.
Jiang Can swallowed back the words that were on the tip of her tongue.
The first meal of their marriage was silent and long. Jiang Can felt wronged, but since things had already come to this, she had no way to turn back.
"By the way, do you have anything else planned for today?" Jiang Can asked.
Gu Mang was taken aback. "What's wrong?"
"I need to go to the city to return the wedding dress," she said with a smile.
Gu Mang's eyes widened. He hadn't been involved in any aspect of the marriage, and he had no idea that her wedding dress was rented. For other women, a once-in-a-lifetime event, wouldn't they all happily buy their wedding dresses? Thinking of this, a strange feeling welled up inside him.
"I didn't mean for you to come with me!" Jiang Can quickly explained when she saw his silence. "I can go return the wedding dress myself. You can go do what you need to do and don't need to worry about me."
"Hmm," the man replied indifferently.
The two treated each other with the utmost respect, behaving as politely as roommates.
Jiang Can washed the wedding dress clean, packed it back into its original shape, and then took several buses. By the time she arrived at the wedding dress shop, it was almost noon.
Aside from the verbally promised dowry, the Jiang family didn't prepare anything for her when she got married. She had to search high and low to find this wedding dress shop, where the styles and prices were satisfactory. The shop wasn't big, and the staff were always looking down on people, especially those like Jiang Can who rented wedding dresses for their weddings; they were treated particularly badly.
"Miss, are you sure we can rent this wedding dress out again?" the saleswoman asked in a high-pitched voice, her face full of disdain. "Look at the state it's in!"
