Chapter 5: Continue the investigation

The shop fell completely silent instantly; you could hear a pin drop.

Others cast sympathetic glances at the saleswoman, whose face was already quite grim. However, the manager then approached and gave her a meaningful look, signaling her to comply with the customer's wishes. After all, the price of the wedding dress was what it was.

Gu Mang remained calm, his cold face devoid of any smile.

Jiang Can unconsciously tightened her grip on his hand.

"Forget it, let's not buy it," she whispered to him. "This wedding dress is too expensive, and it won't be of any use in the future..."

"Swipe the card," Gu Mang said coldly. "There's no PIN."

In the end, the manager and designer stepped in together to resolve the situation.

Gu Mang smoked at the door while Jiang Can took measurements inside. This time, no one dared to mock her anymore. The previous sales clerk was reprimanded by the manager and stood aside, too afraid to move. The designer kept praising her figure, and even the manager treated her like a VIP, carefully serving her tea and water.

After finally leaving the wedding dress shop, Jiang Can remained sullen on the way back.

That wedding dress cost over 30,000 yuan...

She bit her lip and looked at the man beside her. He remained completely calm, as composed as an iceberg.

"Gu Mang," she finally couldn't hold back after a long time, "I feel there are some things I still need to talk to you about."

Gu Mang paused, startled.

The little woman looked at her intently, her big, dark eyes blinking, her cherry lips slightly pursed.

"You were too impulsive just now."

He frowned. "What?"

"It happened right there in the bridal shop. We didn't have to make such a scene... Why did you have to get so worked up and buy that wedding dress? Over 30,000 yuan, do you know how long that's enough for us to live on?"

He really didn't know how long he could live like this; for him in the past, it probably wouldn't even have been enough for a meal.

Jiang Can glanced at him discreetly; his sharply defined face remained expressionless.

"I...I'm not blaming you." Her voice softened. "I just wanted to say that we're married now, so we have to plan for the future. I know you wanted to help me get revenge, but sometimes you have to be patient. There are still many expenses at home..."

At home?

For some reason, Gu Mang's lips involuntarily twitched when he heard those two words.

"Besides, my dowry hasn't arrived yet, and it will be used for other purposes once it does. We can't be so extravagant with our money."

Jiang Can's voice gradually lowered. The thought of her mother in the hospital and her younger brother waiting for living expenses brought a pang of worry to her eyes. But she dared not let Gu Mang know about this; in his presence, she should be Jiang Yao.

"Spendthrift?" The man repeated the words in a low voice, a hint of amusement in his tone. "Aren't you the daughter of the Jiang family? Why do you seem so reluctant to spend money?"

Jiang Can stared at him with wide eyes, her heart pounding. She quickly changed the subject: "Are you thirsty? I'll go buy you some milk tea."

As she spoke, she turned around and went to the milk tea shop on the street.

Gu Mang looked at her petite and flustered figure and chuckled softly. Just then, his phone vibrated, and when he saw the number on it, his smile froze instantly.

"How about it?"

"Third Master," the voice on the other end lowered, "the investigation is almost complete. Your private plane was indeed tampered with on the day it crashed. Right now, the evidence is insufficient, but it should be pretty much the same person you suspected."

"Very good." Gu Mang's voice was stern. "Continue the investigation!"

"Yes. But Third Master... how much longer are you going to stay in that village in Jiangzhou? Are you sure you don't want to go back to Yangcheng?"
