Chapter 47: Being Raided
In the morning, Qin Huai sat in his office, processing the documents that had piled up over the past week.
His office was independent and, like his bedroom, devoid of any unnecessary decorations. Even though he had used it for several years, it was still cold and devoid of any trace of life.
Several cold screens surround the metal desk, constantly displaying complex data analysis, and the documents at hand are neatly classified and arranged.
But besides all this, there was also a translucent display screen that looked out of place, emitting a blue fluorescent light. A small red dot sat quietly in the center of the screen, with two little devil horns on it given by Qin Huai, and it flickered.
The location shown was the A University study room, and it hadn't moved for a long time.
The occasional fluctuations in body temperature and heart rate silently hinted at the little guy's anxious and bored mood.
...It seems that he is suffering a lot from the missed homework.
Qin Huai handled his work calmly, occasionally looking up to observe for a few seconds, even if the display screen had nothing to do with his work.
An image automatically emerged in my mind: Duan Ke's reluctant expression facing the computer, and his unconscious mumblings.
Qin Huai was actually in a very calm mood, but he kept looking at the screen occasionally.
Since they confirmed their relationship, Qin Huai had been using the display screen constantly. As long as Duan Ke wasn't around, Qin Huai would take it out and look at it, even when he was working.
There was a knock on the door. Qin Huai casually turned off the screen and let the person in.
The person who came was Lin Jiangli, who brought him the monster information he had just requested.
Lin Jiangli placed some information about Meng Yao next to Qin Huai's desk and accidentally glanced at the still flashing surveillance bracelet.
Lin Jiangli looked at Qin Huai's calm expression, and his forehead twitched. He had never seen Qin Huai as human, but now he looked at him more like an alien.
God, is it necessary to be so clingy when it comes to a relationship?
You might as well just put a rope around your boyfriend's neck. Is this like being a boyfriend or a father? You have to feed him mouthful by mouthful even if he can't eat.
Qin Huai didn't care much about other people's reactions. He put the bracelet back on his hand and casually flipped through the information.
Before, he took advantage of Duan Ke's sleep to collect some of his magic power and handed it to the management bureau for analysis and testing. The new test results have been automatically entered into the system, and the entries are clearly displayed on the electronic file.
The magic power of that monster is nearly 70% similar to Duan Ke's, which can be said to be a very high value.
But the strange thing is that the other 30% is mixed with too much messy magic power of completely different origins. It is obvious that it has swallowed up several A-level monsters.
"The initial speculation is that this thing has the same power as the original succubus, born from the same obsession."
Lin Jiangli pointed at the information and said, "They should have both been born in the great war over a decade ago. Their magical powers are so similar, they should have been the same thing... I just don't know why they were accidentally separated."
"So, the monster attacked Duan Ke in order to absorb this power back?"
Qin Huai tapped the table with his fingers intermittently. "But Duan Ke's magic power is incomparable to other monsters."
It is not easy for monsters to improve their magic power. To upgrade from B-level to A-level or even S-level, they often need to kill a large number of humans and swallow up their obsessions.
If you want to increase your strength by devouring your own kind, the conditions will be even more stringent.
Not only does one need the ability to devour magic, but they must also be significantly more powerful than the object being devoured, otherwise the magic will backfire. Once backfired, the damage is irreversible, so few monsters are willing to take this risk. Under the law of the jungle, losing power means being at the mercy of others.
"I've fought that thing's clone twice before." Qin Huai said calmly, "It's not that strong. It's not at the level that can swallow Duan Ke directly."
Lin Jiangli actually had this question as well.
Duan Ke once smashed his opponent's clone into pieces with one punch. It seemed that there was a big gap in the strength between the two.
Is it possible for a dream demon to take back his other half in one go?
Even though he couldn't be sure, Lin Jiangli shrugged helplessly and said, "The sample size of people with this ability is too small, and we can't be sure if this is a special case. Maybe when the power comes from the same source, there will be no backlash at all."
Qin Huai didn't say anything after hearing this, but he pressed the document in his hand with slightly heavier pressure.
After reading the information, he handed the file back to Lin Jiangli and asked him to take it back to the database.
"Hey... aren't you going to help the ancestor succubus recover his memory?"
Lin Jiangli took the information back and asked curiously, "Haven't you already remembered a little bit? Don't you want to help your boyfriend remember it too? It's such a pity that he's forgotten about our first encounter."
Lin Jiangli had indeed not heard Qin Huai talk about this matter in detail, but he could guess it.
If Duan Ke had always remembered this person, Qin Huai would never have pretended so stubbornly when he first started carrying out the mission.
I guess I'll hit home plate on the first night.
The next day, they would report that they had surrendered to the enemy, and there would be no chance to say anything like "it was just a mission".
After Qin Huai put down the documents, he returned to his work. He remained expressionless, answering while reading the documents, as if he didn't care about the matter at all.
"I don't plan to. If I forget about it, I'll forget about it."
These are not very happy memories. Instead, most of the time I was in fear of being hunted.
Qin Huai was too powerless at that time and couldn't even break free from the control of the upper echelons, and failed to protect Duan Ke well enough.
Duan Ke had a nightmare before. When he woke up, he hugged me and cried, and asked me to save him. Most likely, he was dreaming about things in the past.
If this experience only brings pain to Duan Ke, Qin Huai would rather he forget it.
While ensuring accuracy, Qin Huai completed the task as quickly as possible and headed to the underground interrogation room with his gun.
This week seemed unusually busy, with twice as many monsters and criminals as usual. Qin Huai's gunfire was almost constant, but he studiously avoided spilling blood.
He seemed a little more indifferent than usual, the questioning process was much more streamlined, and the monsters died much more comfortably.
After working non-stop at extremely high intensity, Qin Huai finally finished processing the accumulated work within a day.
Before leaving work, Qin Huai checked the data one last time to prevent himself from making mistakes due to excessive speed. Finally, he went to the office to change out of his work uniform and drove home.
After arriving home, Duan Ke had not left the study room, nor sent any messages, showing no intention of going home at all.
Qin Huai hesitated at the door, wondering whether he should go directly to University A to find someone.
In the end, Qin Huai couldn't bear to disturb the child who was studying hard, so he decided to cook at home and pick him up when Duan Ke was ready to go home.
Every minute you can see him earlier is a minute you can see him earlier.
Qin Huai walked into the bathroom and prepared to wash his hands. When he looked up, he saw another person in the mirror, staring at the face that Qin Huai had been thinking about day and night, smiling at him.
——It’s Duan Ke’s face.
Qin Huai looked at this face that looked exactly like his lover's, but his expression didn't change much. He even calmly wiped his hands with the towel beside him.
The judge's eyebrows were cold and indifferent, with high brow arches, and he looked too inhuman when he was not smiling.
The subordinates of the Administration often said that no emergency would cause the Inquisitor to have emotional fluctuations, and the provocation of psychic monsters would only bring trouble upon themselves.
"If you want to use him to stimulate my emotions and then erase my memory again... then you won't waste your energy."
"I can win without a gun," Qin Huai said. "If you want to fight me now so I can resolve this matter ahead of time, that's fine. On the contrary, I'd be happy to do it. You can give it a try."
Qin Huai said this in a calm tone, not even sounding threatening.
The thing in the mirror saw that Qin Huai showed no emotion at all, and didn't seem to be provoked. It emerged from the mirror, extending its pitch-black claws, and engaged Qin Huai in a fight.
Qin Huai felt a little strange because of the opponent's overly direct attack method.
Psychic monsters like Duan Ke should attack from a mental perspective. It is unlikely that they would try to attack him directly physically, and they would not have the advantage.
Qin Huai felt something was amiss, but he would not let the monster take advantage of him, so he fought back very quickly.
After several rounds of fighting, the bathroom was in a complete mess. Qin Huai was unharmed, though his clothes were slightly disheveled. The monster had gradually lost its strength.
It is probably just a clone coming to provoke.
Qin Huai thought calmly and tried to kill him with one blow.
To his surprise, at the last moment, the monster gave up its struggle with a sly grin. It stood still, ready for Qin Huai's punch to pierce through it.
A flash of white light flashed through Qin Huai's mind. He immediately realized that something was wrong and calmly assessed the situation. He stopped attacking the clone directly and instead smashed it hard into the mirror next to him.
The mirror shattered, and the monster lost the medium of possession and quickly disappeared.
Qin Huai leaned against the sink, unable to recover for a long time. He stared at the cracked mirror with a gloomy and depressed look, and his perfect composure finally began to show a tiny crack.
...This thing is intentional.
This attack was not intended to hurt him at all, but to announce one thing - He had swallowed many monsters, and his strength began to recover rapidly.
After recovering, his magic power became closer and closer to Duan Ke's, and they began to become similar from the outside to the inside.
They are originally one, and the closer the strength of their magic power is, the higher the degree of spiritual connection will be.
When they are completely united, kill Him...
That would be equivalent to killing Duan Ke.
Duan Ke’s safety was Qin Huai’s last bottom line. He had to start to be on guard, and his breathing became gradually heavier.
Qin Huai's hand was deeply pierced by the glass, but he was completely unaware. He stood in front of the messy sink, thinking he was calmly analyzing the situation, trying to find a way to protect Duan Ke without letting him know.
Qin Huai didn't know how long he had been standing there, and the vibration of his phone in his pocket didn't bring him back to his senses.
It was not until a hand pulled him out of the pool of blood that Qin Huai came back to his senses from the shock. He could not hide his worry on his face when he looked at Duan Ke.
