Chapter 13 Fourth Brother's Medical Ethics

Whether out of a doctor's conscience or to establish his reputation as a physician, Wen Zhiyun had to make house calls.

He bent down to lift his small medicine box... but couldn't move it.

When I tried to withstand the second blow, the medicine box suddenly felt as light as if it didn't exist.

Wen Zhiyun turned her head and saw Fang Heng holding the medicine box handle, carrying it on his body with ease.

People are indeed different.

Wen Zhiyun sighed and resignedly let go of the small medicine box—as long as he didn't have to carry her.

He walked in front, Fang Heng followed behind carrying the medicine box, and Jiang Sheng was definitely going too. Zheng Ruqian was very attached to Jiang Sheng, so naturally he wouldn't fall behind.

Xu Mo was left alone in the dilapidated temple again.

Jiang Sheng had already reached the village entrance when she belatedly realized that it wasn't right to always leave her older brother behind.

She turned around and saw Xu Mo gazing at them through the window.

Jiang Sheng felt a pang of sadness. They could all move around, but her eldest brother could only sit in the dilapidated temple, copying books day after day. It was truly too cruel.

Xu Mo also saw Jiang Sheng turn around. A faint smile appeared on his usually calm face, as if he was comforting Jiang Sheng, or as if he was telling her that he was fine.

The group arrived at the Zhou family's residence.

Zhou Zhiqiang was even more irritable than before, sometimes cursing and yelling at Aunt Zhang to move things around, until he saw Wen Zhiyun and then shut up.

However, when he turned around and saw Jiang Sheng behind him, his expression changed, and he was about to start cursing again, "You little bastard, who let you into my house? Get out of here right now, get out of here."

The older brothers' faces instantly darkened.

It's one thing for Wen Zhiyun to have medical ethics when he comes to treat patients, but it's another thing to hear Zhou Zhiqiang bullying his sister. He may be handsome, but that doesn't mean he has a gentle temperament.

“My sister is a bastard, and so are we.” The doctor straightened his back and said firmly, “We are not worthy to enter your courtyard.”

After saying that, he turned and left.

Fang Heng followed closely behind with a cold face, while Zheng Ruqian glared fiercely at Zhou Zhiqiang.

"Hey, hey, don't go!" The Zhou family panicked. Only then did they realize that the young doctor was the older brother of Jiang Sheng, the beggar at the village entrance. They quickly covered Zhou Zhiqiang's mouth and begged and pleaded with him before they could barely persuade the young doctor to stay.

Wen Zhiyun sat down with a displeased expression and instructed the Zhou family to clean the wound, "The leg needs to be washed with warm water, the wound must be wiped clean, and any sharp stones or pebbles must be removed so that nothing remains."

Farmers are rough and clumsy, and they don't do things carefully at all. They hurt Zhou Zhiqiang in no time, and he let out a scream like a pig being slaughtered.

Aunt Zhou was so frightened that she stopped what she was doing, panicked and not knowing what to do.

"Mother, call Zhang Shi here, call her here!" Zhou Zhiqiang shouted, but before he could give any further orders, he still didn't give any more.

The Zhou family then remembered that they had a daughter-in-law. They turned around and saw Jiang Sheng whispering to Aunt Zhang.

"Zhang, come and help!" Aunt Zhou shouted.

Aunt Zhang was startled by the shout and rushed over.

"Auntie, please go find some ice water and two pieces of cloth," Wen Zhiyun said at the right moment, her tone much gentler.

Aunt Zhang was immediately taken aback. She glanced at Zhou Zhiqiang twice, but still carried the wooden bucket to the well to fetch water.

The Zhou family had no choice but to grit their teeth and continue cleaning the wound, cutting open the flesh to remove the wood chips, pebbles, and stinking dog feces.

Wen Zhiyun then took out some Panax notoginseng from the medicine box, crushed it, mixed it with Ten Ash Powder, carefully sprinkled it on the wound, and finally pressed it with a clean, soft cotton cloth.

Zhou Zhiqiang shuddered in pain, sweat beading on his forehead.

"The wound must not get wet. Change the dressing every five days, and it will scab over in about half a month." He said indifferently, "In comparison, the swelling on the ankle is more serious. If it is not treated properly, it will leave a disability, and you will be a cripple in the future."

Upon hearing this, the Zhou family was terrified.

In the village, able-bodied men are not only the labor force but also the productive force. Zhou Zhiqiang's collapse is not a big deal, but the Zhou family has lost half of its pillar.

"Young doctor, young doctor, please save my son!" Aunt Zhou was practically kneeling down.

Zhao Dazhu frowned. He had twisted his ankle before, but it recovered after a month or two of rest. It wasn't that serious.

Could it be that Zhou Zhiqiang twisted the ground even harder?

Zhao Dazhu scratched his head in confusion.

Jiang Sheng, standing behind the crowd, stuck out her tongue. In order to avenge Aunt Zhang, she deliberately asked her fourth brother to exaggerate the situation, the more serious the better, so that he would lie down obediently for a few months and give Aunt Zhang a couple of days of peace.

“Actually, it can be treated, but it’s a bit difficult.” Wen Zhiyun sighed, his tone returning to its gentleness. “Today, we’ll apply ice water to his sprain, and from tomorrow onwards, we’ll switch to hot water and gently massage it with our soft fingers. Given time, he should be able to recover as usual.”

Just then, Aunt Zhang came over carrying well water.

Wen Zhiyun looked at her fingers and nodded, "Auntie, your fingers are too rough. You need this auntie's hands to massage them. But remember not to let her do any chores during this time, lest she hurt her hands and then she won't be able to massage anymore."

The Zhou family listened in a daze, and although they didn't understand, they still agreed to everything.

Aunt Zhou immediately made the decision, "From now on, Zhang will be responsible for taking care of my son, and she won't have to do any other work."

Zhang nodded blankly, not understanding what had happened.

Upon seeing this, Wen Zhiyun stood up, and Fang Heng tacitly carried the small medicine box on his back.

These two individuals were as noble as the wind; neither of them asked for a consultation fee.

Zheng Ruqian perked up and pulled Jiang Sheng forward, saying, "Our consultation fee."

"Oh, oh, oh." Aunt Zhou came to her senses and took out two copper coins from her bosom.

Zheng Ruqian was about to reach out and take it.

Wen Zhiyun, who had already reached the door, paused and said calmly, "The consultation fee is two coins, and the medicine from earlier is seven coins."
