Chapter 15 Jiang Sheng Loses Money

The donkey cart stopped at the entrance of Youranju.

Zheng Ruqian jumped down with the mushrooms in his arms, followed closely by Jiang Sheng. Wen Zhiyun hesitated for a moment before also getting off.

Only Fang Heng, under the pretext of taking care of Xu Mo on the donkey cart, stayed outside the restaurant.

Jiang Sheng, unsuspecting, pulled her two older brothers into Youran Residence.

There were no dramatic obstacles or humiliating interrogations. Upon hearing that Jiang Sheng had come to deliver mushrooms, the waiter immediately turned around and called out the shopkeeper.

It was the same middle-aged man I saw that day, wearing a fine cloth robe.

He had grown a small mustache, and seeing that Jiang Sheng was very friendly, he greeted her with a smile, "Who do we have here? It turns out to be the two young friends who brought the mushrooms. Come, come, please have a seat."

The waiter cleverly served tea, and the group sat down to talk.

"Shopkeeper, the mushrooms you ordered have arrived." Jiang Sheng smiled, revealing her teeth. "Do you still honor our previous agreement, shopkeeper?"

The girl here has subtly changed the subject.

What was originally a casual business deal by the shopkeeper, which was easily acknowledged or denied, was forced to be taken seriously by her use of the word "agreement."

"You little rascal." The middle-aged man wasn't angry. He patted his newly grown mustache. "Of course it's a deal. Four coins a pound. I'll take whatever you give me."

He waved his hand, and the waiter who was waiting nearby stepped forward, took the bundle and basket from Zheng Ruqian, and went to the kitchen to weigh them.

Zheng Ruqian hesitated, wanting to step forward and keep an eye on things, but he was afraid of upsetting the shopkeeper.

Jiang Sheng noticed this and gave him a push with a smile, "Little brother can't carry it, second brother, why don't you hurry up and help?"

Zheng Ruqian followed suit and even picked up two mushrooms that had fallen to the ground.

The middle-aged man watched, nodded slightly, and then looked at Jiang Sheng. He noticed that the little girl was sitting on the high stool with her legs dangling in the air. She was neither anxious nor afraid, and just waited quietly.

She has an inexplicable air of being a well-bred lady.

Not long after, the waiter returned from weighing the item. "Boss, it weighs twenty-two jin in total."

Four coins per pound, so twenty-two pounds would cost eighty-eight coins.

The shopkeeper took out copper coins, not a penny less or more, and handed them to Jiang Sheng.

He was a shrewd man and had already figured it out. Although this young girl was the youngest, she was the most decisive, and it was definitely the right thing to do to give her the money.

Jiang Sheng nodded, put the mushrooms into her bosom, and said, "Then we'll send mushrooms to the shopkeeper every three to five days. We probably can't guarantee the quantity, but we can try to get as many as possible for the shopkeeper."

The middle-aged man couldn't help but chuckle.

He clearly wanted to earn more money, but he insisted on charging the shopkeeper a little more.

"What a clever little devil." He stood up. "Our Youranju is a big store with branches all over the country. If you have mushrooms, just send them over. There's no amount that Youranju can't handle."

That's exactly what I wanted to hear.

Jiang Sheng was completely relieved, bid farewell to the shopkeeper with satisfaction, and pulled her two older brothers out.

As soon as they left Youranju, they saw Fang Heng riding a donkey cart back and forth on the street, his speed becoming more and more steady and his skills becoming more and more exquisite.

Upon seeing his younger siblings, he drove over in a donkey cart.

The group sat down next to Xu Mo one by one, deciding where to go next.

"Go buy some medicine," Wen Zhiyun said softly. "We gave it all to the Zhou family a few days ago."

Fang Heng had already found out the direction of the pharmacy, so he drove there directly.

Upon arriving at the destination, he tied the old donkey to a tree and accompanied Wen Zhiyun into the pharmacy to buy medicine.

Jiang Sheng hesitated for a moment, then followed him inside.

It wasn't that she was overly curious and wanted to see everything, but rather that the atmosphere on the donkey cart was strange.

The second brother, Zheng Ruqian, remained silent, and the eldest brother, Xu Mo, also kept his head down and didn't say a word. The two of them seemed to have a deep-seated hatred for each other, as if they could fight at any moment.

But they were clearly chatting and laughing on their way here.

Ah, men, what a strange species.

Jiang Sheng shook her head and sighed, while turning her gaze to Wen Zhiyun.

Whether it was the smell of Chinese medicine or something else, the usually mild-mannered fourth brother suddenly became energetic and pointed at one Chinese medicine after another, saying, "Two ounces of Panax notoginseng, two ounces of Cassia tora seeds, and two ounces of this too."

Jiang Sheng rubbed her eyes. If she wasn't mistaken, it said "five coins per tael", "ten coins per tael" and "eight coins per tael".

Goodness, in just a short while, forty-six coins have been spent.

Jiang Sheng only knew that being a doctor could make money, but she didn't know that buying Chinese medicine was so expensive.

She practically pounced on Wen Zhiyun, grabbed his arm, and squeezed out a sentence through gritted teeth, "Fourth Brother, don't buy too much."

Wen Zhiyun paused for a moment, then pointed to the last ingredient, "Give me two ounces of this too."

The waiter quickly grabbed the medicine, packed it up, and settled the bill, afraid they might regret it.

"Fifty coins in total."

Jiang Sheng almost fainted. He had only earned eighty-eight coins today, of which forty-four were initial capital, and now he had spent fifty coins just on medicine.

Money isn't money, but it's easy to spend it all.

Jiang Sheng paid the money with a heavy heart, thinking to herself that the consultation fee should be increased in the future, as two coins was really too cheap.

I left the pharmacy.

The number of people with stiff expressions increased from two to three, and Jiang Sheng's lips also drooped.

“Little sister, don’t worry, you’ll earn all this money back later.” Wen Zhiyun tugged at her sleeve and explained in a low voice, “These are all medicines for acute illnesses, we can’t afford to delay the journey.”

Even by donkey cart, it takes an hour to travel from the village to the county, and two hours round trip. By the time the medicine arrives, the person might be gone.

Jiang Sheng expressed her understanding, but still felt sorry for him.

Wen Zhiyun, being thoughtful, quickly assured her, "I will definitely earn back double these fifty coins."

Jiang Sheng's resolve wavered. "How many times?"

“At least four times,” Wen Zhiyun said seriously. “For difficult and complicated cases, even eight times the return is possible.”
