Chapter 268 Jiang Sheng's Identity Exposed

The four Jiang siblings all turned their gazes toward it.

When they saw the fair-skinned, chubby little girl skipping and jumping, followed by two young boys with very different temperaments, their expressions changed slightly.

Jiang Chengyuan was surprised and incredulous that he actually had this connection with Xiao Jiangkuai.

Jiang Chenghuan was pale, shocked and confused, and disgusted to the extreme.

Jiang Chengfeng was stunned, lost in thought; this little girl seemed to be from Jiuzhenfang.

Jiang Chengyu was the least concerned, but since everyone had different expressions, it wasn't good for her to be too relaxed, so she simply put on a constipated expression.

Unbeknownst to anyone, the people who had just directed their gaze toward Jiang Sheng quietly left, as if they had accomplished their mission and were now making their exit.

"It's her? Why is it her again?" Jiang Chenghuan murmured, his eyes seemingly poisonous. "Is she a shadow? Why can't I ever get rid of her?"

“No matter what, she saved Grandmother, and we should thank her.” Jiang Chengyuan came back to his senses, his eyes filled with eagerness.

Neither Jiang Chengfeng nor Jiang Chengyu had any objections.

Just as he was about to lift his foot, his arm was grabbed tightly.

Turning around, he saw his younger sister Chenghuan looking bewildered and helpless. "Brother, just send a servant to deliver the money to her. There's no need for you to thank me personally."

Jiang Chengyuan's heart skipped a beat, and his outstretched steps slowly receded.

Jiang Chenghuan breathed a sigh of relief, and a smile slowly appeared on his face.

"Why aren't you going?" Jiang Chengyu couldn't stand seeing her make a quick decision, and jumped out with his hands on his hips. "Grandmother personally instructed us, and you still want to disobey her?"

"You..." Jiang Chenghuan's expression turned cold again, "What does Second Brother think?"

When two parties hold differing opinions, the one who remains silent becomes a crucial factor.

Jiang Chengfeng glanced at his cousin's face and then at his younger sister's threatening gaze, and suddenly realized that his older brother had it tough too.

"How about I go?" He decided to be the one to make the sacrifice.

Jiang Chengyu sneered, "What good will it do you go? Are you the eldest brother? Can you represent the Jiang family?"

Jiang Chengfeng, "..."

He silently looked at Jiang Chengyuan, indicating that his younger brother had done his best.

Jiang Chenghuan's face grew paler and paler. She knew that a well-educated and reasonable younger sister should no longer stop her, but the fear in her heart almost consumed her, as if she would lose the brother who loved her if she let go.

However, the upbringing of a noble family's legitimate daughter did not allow her to obstruct or act willfully.

Under everyone's gaze, Jiang Chenghuan released her brother's arm and whispered, "Since everyone is willing, how can Chenghuan stop them? I'm just afraid that one person isn't enough for you, brother. Let's go and thank them in person as well."

Knowing when to advance and when to retreat, and being poised and graceful, is the proper way to live up to the Jiang family's decades of upbringing.

Jiang Chengyuan nodded with satisfaction, then led his younger siblings straight over and stopped in front of Jiang Sheng and his sister.

Jiang family servants stepped forward, subtly forming a human wall to protect their masters and prevent eavesdropping.

This startled Jiang Sheng, who thought someone was trying to abduct a woman in broad daylight.

Fortunately, Jiang Chengyuan stepped forward in time and said solemnly in a low voice, "Miss Jiang, you saved my grandmother last time, and I have come to thank you on behalf of the Jiang family."

As expected of someone from a prominent family, they can be as mischievous as they want normally, but when it matters, they remain dignified, serious, and courteous.

Jiang Sheng tilted her head, somewhat surprised that the old lady from last time was of extraordinary status, and couldn't understand why she had cheated her out of two pounds of roasted chestnuts.

That's strange.

But it doesn't matter.

Jiang Sheng waved her hand, "It was nothing, don't mention it."

Whether it's Old Madam Jiang or Madam Jiang, it doesn't have much to do with her.

Jiang Sheng was only concerned about why the examination hall was still closed and why her older brother hadn't returned yet; she was starving.

"Miss Jiang," Jiang Chengfeng said, bowing slightly. "Thank you for helping our grandmother."

"Yes, thank you," Jiang Chengyu replied.

When it was Jiang Chenghuan's turn, her expression was troubled, and after much hesitation, she whispered, "Thank you."

Jiang Sheng did not speak.

The two had been at odds for a long time. Jiang Sheng knew that this legitimate daughter of a noble family looked down on her, and she also disliked the overly proud and aloof Jiang Chenghuan. They were a commoner and a noblewoman, their social statuses were worlds apart, and they should never have any interaction.

Faced with Jiang Chenghuan's strained thanks, she merely gave a forced smile and quickly turned her head away.

Jiang Chenghuan breathed a sigh of relief, thinking he had finally succeeded in his mission.

Suddenly, Jiang Chengyu whispered provocatively, "Third sister's thanks are really insincere. Just now, she didn't want eldest brother to come over and thank her. Could it be that you have some dissatisfaction with this young lady?"

Upon hearing this, Jiang Sheng and his sister, as well as the Jiang family siblings, all turned their heads in unison.

"Fourth Sister, don't talk nonsense." Jiang Chenghuan remained relatively calm. "I am sincerely thanking Miss Jiang for helping Grandmother this time."

Jiang Chengyu hated this fake's hypocritical appearance the most. He didn't want to thank her but still took the initiative to come over. He didn't like the fat girl opposite him but still dared to talk about sincerity. He was obviously a fake but still lingered there.

She has a straightforward and fiery temper, and before she knew it, she blurted out, "You fake, you keep talking about your grandmother, who is your grandmother? Your grandmother is probably squatting in some corner somewhere."

Only after he finished speaking did he realize that he had spoken in public, so he quickly covered his mouth, feeling regretful and scared.

Jiang Chengyuan and Jiang Chengfeng both changed color at the same time. They glanced around and breathed a sigh of relief when they realized that not many people had heard them.

Jiang Chenghuan stood there, her skin, which she had concealed for so long, was now being torn off, and in front of the person she hated most. It was as if she were completely naked at this moment, and shame and hatred came at the same time.

Jiang Chengyu's constant use of the word "fake," the whispers behind her back from those in the know, and her grandmother's cold treatment all made her feel increasingly depressed. The things she tried so hard to hold onto seemed to be slipping away even more.

She stared at Jiang Chengyu, trembling, then glanced at the bewildered Jiang Sheng, her suppressed pretense completely shattered.

“I am a fake, but I don’t think I did anything wrong. When I was brought here, I was just an infant with no choice. The place I’ve lived in for over ten years, the parents and brothers I’ve loved for over ten years, are suddenly told that they are all fake. Is it wrong for me not to accept it?”

"I owe no one anything in this world, because everything that exists is not my doing, and I am also an innocent victim. If there is anyone I owe, it is the true legitimate daughter who lost the Jiang family's life of luxury."

“But she isn’t. Why should I tolerate her taking my brother away? I don’t like her. I just want her to stay away from my brother and away from us.”

The entrance to the examination hall was crowded and noisy. Even with servants blocking the view, it still attracted a lot of attention.

Jiang Chenghuan tried his best to maintain his composure and said, word by word, "She is not the child I replaced. I don't owe her anything, and I have reason to hate her. I don't think I did anything wrong."

As soon as she finished speaking, the Jiang family fell into a deathly silence.

Jiang Chengyu actually found what she said to make a lot of sense, although she still disliked her cousin.

Until, Old Madam Jiang, who had been hiding in the corner for a long time, stepped out and, without any fear of making a scene, raised her voice, "What if she is?"
