Chapter 313 Three Pots of Lychees

The Jiang family.

It was rare for Jiang Sheng to stay overnight at Yunxi Pavilion. Perhaps because the environment was too unfamiliar, or perhaps because she was still thinking about yesterday, she did not sleep until late morning.

The talkative maid was not there, and another maid who looked unfamiliar was on night duty outside.

This was also a rule in wealthy families—when the master was asleep, the maids would wait in the outer room, ready to serve tea and water and respond to any needs.

When the master wakes up, you still have to serve him/her as he/she gets dressed, washes, and gets ready.

Jiang Sheng awkwardly spat the tea into the cup, letting the maid wash her face and comb her hair into simple, neat double buns.

When choosing gold jewelry, she suddenly stopped and switched to the vibrant seasonal pink flowers outside.

It's not that gold is bad; on the contrary, Jiang Sheng really likes gold. It's just that the memories of her struggles are too deep, and even though life is gradually getting better, she can't shake the habit of hiding good things.

What if someone steals such a brightly colored treasure hanging on your head?

Jiang Sheng changed into a pleasing pink dress and skipped into Deren Courtyard.

Old Madam Jiang had already woken up and was discussing the lunch plans with Tan Yue, which included stir-fried shrimp with lychees, lychee pancakes, and even lychee fruit tea.

Jiang Sheng stared in disbelief. "Didn't we finish eating all the lychees from yesterday? Why do we need more lychees?"

It must have been yesterday's events that angered Old Madam Jiang.

She cleverly leaned over, half comforting and half coaxing, "Grandmother, don't be angry. Madam Jiang doesn't like me. Being able to distinguish the lychees is already quite fair. Whether they are big or small doesn't matter."

"If I get something good, I will definitely give the best and biggest to my grandmother, and only then will I share it with others."

It's not wrong for people to have biases; it's just that Jiang Sheng didn't receive that favor.

But she has a grandmother.

Grandmother's precious treasures, but not a single one was given to Jiang Chenghuan.

Jiang Sheng was truly content.

Madam Jiang's anger stemmed from her expectation that Jiang Liao would treat everyone equally and that Jiang Liao would make amends to Jiang Sheng.

If we take a calm approach and observe objectively and fairly, it seems that Jiang and Liao were not wrong.

Who wouldn't give their best to the person they love most?

From Jiang Chenghuan's perspective, Jiang Liaoshi was undoubtedly a good mother.

That's life. Lower your expectations, keep a calm mindset, and there's nothing too difficult to overcome.

Grandma Jiang suddenly looked down at the calm and composed Jiang Sheng and realized that she was confused by her concern and was not as insightful as the eleven-year-old girl.

Love is something you shouldn't crave. What's meant to be will be, and what's not meant to be can't be forced.

"You little rascal," Old Madam Jiang chuckled. "Alright, then we won't hold it against her."

Jiang Sheng nodded seriously, "Let's not eat so many lychee dishes for lunch. They're easy to get a sore throat and feel unwell, and they're also expensive."

The last sentence is probably the most important one.

Madam Jiang suppressed a laugh, "No, we still have to eat."

Why?

because……

At 9:00 AM, there was a knock on the Jiang family's door.

The gatekeeper cautiously opened a crack in the door, and as soon as he peeked out, he was stunned by what he saw.

Everyone says that lychees from Fengjing are precious, and the Jiang family only received three plates. Why is someone bringing them over in a basin, and not just one basin at that?

The passersby were so stunned that they almost bumped into the wall.

The gatekeeper asked tremblingly, "May I ask, may I ask what business you have with me, young master?"

Zheng Ruqian, dressed in a plain silk robe, put away his folding fan and called out in a high-pitched voice, "Greetings, Madam Jiang, greetings, Miss Jiang! Jiuzhenfang has come to deliver lychees to you. They are the most delicious lychees from Lingnan, guaranteed to be fresh and sweet."

He's a businessman after all; he never forgets to promote his products.

Remembering Tan Yue's instructions, the gatekeeper hurriedly opened the gate and respectfully led the way, "Young Master Zheng, this way."

Zheng Ruqian didn't stand on ceremony, flicked his folding fan open again, and swaggered in after him.

Jiang San, Jiang Si, and Wang Xiaosong each carried a full basin of lychees, strutting around with an air of arrogance.

As they passed the main road, the maids and servants on both sides couldn't help but be amazed. Seeing the bright red, large lychees, they were filled with envy, their mouths watering.

Zheng Ruqian, quick-witted, grabbed two handfuls of lychees and distributed them freely, saying, "Sisters, feel free to try them. These are fresh lychees from Jiuzhenfang, so please have a taste!"

Some refused, while others boldly accepted.

Upon arriving at the entrance of Derentang, the lychees in the three-pointed basin were only slightly cheaper.

Zheng Ruqian straightened his clothes, smoothed his hair, cleared his throat, and walked to the main hall under Tan Yue's guidance. He bowed calmly and said, "Ruqian greets the old lady and... Miss Jiang."

"Second Brother!" Jiang Sheng jumped off the stool, her face full of surprise. "Are you crazy? Where did you steal those lychees?"

Three large basins full of food, how long will the sentence be?

Her worry was so obvious that she almost stopped breathing.

Zheng Ruqian suppressed a laugh and pinched Xiao Yuan's round face. "You silly goose, Lingnan is famous for its lychees. I brought these back myself, I didn't steal them."

It was only after personally tasting the delicious lychees in Lingnan that he decided to quickly return to Beijing and bring back two large carts full of the first harvest of fruit.

There's a price difference to make, and business to expand, but most importantly, he wants his brothers and sisters to be able to eat.

Delicious food is meant to be shared with family.

"So, the lychees arrived yesterday, but you didn't give me any?" Jiang Sheng asked, hands on her hips, pinpointing the key point.

Zheng Ruqian coughed twice, "It's not that I don't want to give you any, it's just that disassembling it is a bit troublesome and it will take some time to organize."

This kind of perishable fruit takes at least ten days to preserve, even with the fastest horses; it simply cannot be preserved without some special methods.

It must be eaten quickly after preparation, otherwise it will spoil and become inedible if left overnight.

No wonder Madam Jiang planned so many lychee dishes...
