People who are used to eating alone are like this; they can't tolerate others touching their interests in the slightest.
"What are they going to do?" Jiang Sheng asked nervously. "Are they going to attack us?"
Fengjing has good public security, and the Prefect of Fengtian is a fair and just old man. There is also the imperial family in the capital. The Liao family is a second-rate family and their abilities are not considered to be extraordinary.
If it really came to court, they didn't have the same ability as the Fang family.
In comparison, they are more likely to cheat in business dealings.
"During this period, the aunts must be on their toes and maintain the reputation of Jiuzhenfang," Zheng Ruqian coldly ordered. "If anything that is put into the mouth shows any abnormalities, we would rather throw it away than sell it to the people of Fengjing."
"And we need to make sure we check the raw materials we buy carefully," Jiang Sheng added, "to prevent the Liao family from bribing them to tamper with the goods."
It's so easy to smear something that goes into your mouth.
Unfortunately, they can't do anything about it and can only passively defend themselves.
Jiang Sheng sighed and reluctantly moved the tables and chairs with Zheng Ruqian to expand the shop.
She is unhappy.
Jiang Chengyuan was certain, "It must be because of the Liao family."
"Who can be happy when they're constantly being followed?" Jiang Chengfeng muttered.
And it wasn't just one group of people.
Jiang Chengyu leaned against the wall without saying a word. Although there was a carriage to and from the road, hiding and dodging was tiring. He was too exhausted to discuss anything and just wanted to find a place to sleep.
However, her upbringing as a lady of a respectable family did not allow her to sit on the ground, or even squat down.
He could only stare blankly ahead, utterly bored.
The burly men of the Liao family had not yet made a move, like cheetahs waiting for their chance to strike.
Jiang Chengyu's attention was drawn to a figure who rushed into the Wen family's medical clinic and came out carrying medicine. "Isn't that Xiaoqiao?"
How could Jiang Chenghuan's personal maid, the adopted daughter of the Jiang family, be found sneaking around in an outside clinic?
This moment gave her a burst of energy.
"Ahem, it's like this." Jiang Chengfeng coughed twice. "The physician in charge of the hospital has been on leave for the past two days, and she got caught in the heavy rain. She developed a high fever last night. The young doctor at this clinic is very good at using folk remedies to reduce fever, so he probably came."
Jiang Chengyuan pursed his lips, his handsome face revealing neither joy nor anger.
Jiang Chengyu rolled her eyes. "Here we go again. She's been faking illness since April. Is she a sickly person? Or is she using illness to stay at the Jiang family home?"
These words were a bit harsh, and Jiang Chengfeng coughed twice, trying to stop her from speaking.
"What's wrong? Am I wrong? She's just a cuckoo clinging to a magpie's nest, not even a member of the Jiang family. Why does she insist on staying? I don't believe she's not after wealth and status." Jiang Chengyu sneered. "She stole someone's life, and she did it through scheming. Shouldn't she give it back?"
Jiang Chengfeng coughed louder and louder, repeatedly trying to signal to others with his eyes.
"Alright, stop coughing up your throat." Jiang Chengyu ignored him. "Big brother has already told you, why would I be afraid of you telling me? I never thought my aunt could do such a thing, and I never thought Sister Jiang Sheng was so pitiful. She was taken away from everything. She could have lived a life of comfort and ease."
Jiang Chengfeng shut his mouth.
Regardless of the circumstances, it's a fact that Jiang Chenghuan stole Jiang Sheng's life, and it's also a fact that her doting brother has turned indifferent.
You can say she's pitiful, or you can say she deserved it; different perspectives will yield different answers.
But one thing is certain: no one is her, and no one can truly understand her joys and sorrows.
“Jiang Sheng didn’t do anything bad when she came back. She even helped my brother get the land deed and gold back.” Jiang Chengfeng tried to ease the tension.
"She can only stay in the Jiang family if she hasn't done anything wrong. Try doing something and see what happens!" Jiang Chengyu shouted. "Also, she got the land deed and gold back to please my eldest brother, not out of guilt towards Sister Jiang Sheng. She's a scheming woman. If I were her, I would have moved out of the Jiang family long ago. She even had the audacity to pretend to be sick. She bullied Sister Jiang Sheng before. Maybe she was the one who instigated my aunt to do those things. She's utterly wicked, evil to the core..."
As she became increasingly reckless with her words, Jiang Chengyuan's brows furrowed slightly.
Jiang Chengfeng quickly interrupted his physically strong but simple-minded sister, "Alright, alright, shut up."
“I won’t shut up. I think she should get out of the Jiang family and slink away with her tail between her legs.” Jiang Chengyu said viciously.
Jiang Chengfeng rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on. He remembered his grandmother's earnest words: "If Xiaoyu doesn't keep her mouth shut, she'll suffer a great loss sooner or later."
As the older brother, I have to teach this kind of kid a lesson.
His eyes shifted slightly, then suddenly turned serious. "Actually, you're not related by blood either."
Jiang Chengyu's voice stopped abruptly, and he quickly realized what she meant, "You're not related by blood, Second Brother, you're crazy, joking about something like this."
“I’m not joking.” Jiang Chengfeng said in a heavy tone, “You were brought here by your parents. I was five years old at the time and I have memories of it. You were chubby and cute, but you were unlucky to have unreliable parents… Your older brother knows about this.”
Jiang Chengyu looked over in astonishment.
Jiang Chengyuan, standing to the side, felt a mix of emotions and let out a long sigh.
“You still remember the jade pendant you always carried with you, right? That was left to you by your parents so you could find your relatives later.” Jiang Chengfeng gestured with his hands and feet. “And your love for sweet dishes is also a characteristic of people from Jiangnan.”
Jiang Chengyu believed him to be about 70-80%, and began to be stunned. "You mean, I should be from Jiangnan?"
“Yes.” Jiang Chengfeng’s face was full of pity. “Your parents planned to tell you the truth when you came of age. At that time, you could choose to find your relatives if you wanted, or stay in the Jiang family if you didn’t want to…”
Before he could finish speaking, a sturdy little girl appeared in his arms, wailing loudly.
