Chapter 71 Landlord Zheng Ruqian

The contracts of the Dayu Dynasty were divided into three types: land contracts, personal contracts, and property contracts.

Human contracts are further divided into two types: slave contracts and labor contracts.

A slave contract is easy to understand; it means selling oneself into slavery. Generally, there are two types: a dead contract and a live contract. A dead contract cannot be redeemed, while a live contract is automatically terminated upon expiration.

Work contracts have more dignity than slave contracts. They are contracts signed simply for the division of labor. They are generally divided into long contracts and short contracts. Long contracts are for twenty years, while short contracts are for a few months.

When Zheng Ruqian approached Pang Dashan and asked him if he wanted to sign a long-term contract, Pang Dashan paused for a moment.

“It’s not the kind of contract where you work for me and I pay you. It’s no longer a verbal agreement, but a formal contract,” Zheng Ruqian explained. “It has to go through the official channels. If there is a breach of contract, you have to pay compensation.”

The two signed the contract and paid the money.

Holding the warm six taels of silver, Pang Dashan was filled with mixed emotions.

Zheng Ruqian was also happy; he had taken another step closer to becoming a landlord.

The two parted ways at the entrance of the county town. Pang Dashan took his younger brother to Yunshui County to transport vegetables, while Zheng Ruqian trudged into the county town on foot.

As he walked, he thought to himself, "I need to buy a carriage."

How could the landlord still be using a donkey cart?

He became happier and happier as he passed by Youranju, when he was suddenly called out to.
