Chapter 8 Picking Up a Fourth Brother

Upon seeing Jiang Sheng, he seemed startled, covering his face with his hands and trembling slightly.

I've never seen such a timid boy.

Jiang Sheng became curious and leaned closer to ask, "Who are you? Why are you here?"

The little boy didn't say anything.

Jiang Sheng thought for a moment and gave up the half-eaten bun.

The little boy was lured by the aroma and swallowed several mouthfuls of saliva. Finally, he couldn't resist taking it, taking small bites, and slowly swallowing.

He's clearly a man, but his mannerisms are more delicate than those of an average girl.

Jiang Sheng's curiosity was about to explode, and she said almost seductively, "Tell me who you are, and I'll treat you to another steamed bun."

After finishing the last bite of his bun, the little boy licked his lips and said in a hoarse voice, "My name is Wen Zhiyun."

"My father and my mother were taken away by a group of bad people."

“They told me to hide and that if I didn’t come back after a day, I should run as far away as possible by myself.”

Wen Zhiyun suppressed her sadness, her voice growing softer and softer.

Jiang Sheng suddenly realized.

It turned out that the child was a doctor's son. His parents must have sensed the danger and told him to hide.

Almost instantly, a surge of heroic ambition rose in Jiang Sheng's heart.

The doctor treated her well, so she wanted to repay him. If something happened to the doctor, then she would repay the doctor's child.

Without any hesitation, Jiang Sheng instructed Zheng Ruqian to buy new steamed buns and give them to Wen Zhiyun, promising that they would wait with him.

Wen Zhiyun was filled with gratitude and almost cried.

And so they waited and waited in the clinic.

They waited from dawn until dusk, and then from dusk until dawn.

Jiang Sheng tried several times to stay awake, but she couldn't hold on and collapsed.

She was awakened by suppressed sobs, and when she opened her eyes, she saw Wen Zhiyun kneeling in front of the two corpses.

Jiang Sheng was startled and rushed over, whereupon she saw the doctor and his wife.

They appeared to have been brutally tortured; their flesh was incomplete, and their bodies were covered in blood.

"Jiang Sheng, don't look," Xu Mo gently stopped her.

Fang Heng covered her eyes with his hands.

But the cruel scene was still etched into Jiang Sheng's eyes.

Besides freezing to death, starving to death, and being beaten to death, there are other cruel ways to die.

Xiao Jiangsheng was completely shocked.

"Father, Mother," Wen Zhiyun cried, still prostrate on the ground, "What are you going to do, Yun'er? What am I going to do all by myself?"

Jiang Sheng felt a pang of sadness. She went over and took his hand, whispering, "Little brother, if you don't mind, you can come with us."

Although they were poor and shabby, they had no money and couldn't afford meat.

Jiang Sheng had already decided that if Wen Zhiyun didn't want to follow them and wanted to go to his relatives, she would give him two gold beans and twenty copper coins, and then tell him to hide them well so that no one would find out, and to save them for his future marriage.

Unexpectedly, Wen Zhiyun only hesitated for a moment before nodding.

Jiang Sheng's expression froze.

Rationally, she didn't want to feed another mouth to feed.

But the doctor was so good, she couldn't bring herself to be cruel to his child.

Wen Zhiyun was so thin and frail, like a little girl, that she would probably die alone in this cold winter.

“Alright, Fourth Brother.” Jiang Sheng sighed like a little adult, “From now on, we’re family.”

The bodies of the doctor and his wife could not be left in the clinic for long, so at Xu Mo's suggestion, the children worked together to dig a pit.

Jiang Sheng offered twenty coins, which was exactly the price of a thin coffin.

Since a tombstone couldn't be built, they could only take a wooden board and stick it on the grave, with Xu Mo simply writing down the names of the doctor and his wife.

"Father, Mother, I am an unfilial son and can only leave you here." Wen Zhiyun kowtowed three times. "In the future, I will definitely move your graves and avenge you."

Revenge! To avenge our grievances!

Who wouldn't want that?

Xu Mo lowered her eyelashes, concealing her sorrow.

Fang Heng turned his head away, unwilling to look any longer.

Back at the clinic, Wen Zhiyun kept her head down, looking sad and dazed.

Jiang Sheng was also very sad, as there was no one to treat her elder brother's leg.

"We still have to go to the county," Zheng Ruqian said, biting his lip.

Jiang Sheng hadn't had a chance to tell them how big the price difference was between a donkey cart and a flatbed cart.

Wen Zhiyun, who was standing to the side, came to her senses and said, "You want to treat a broken leg, right? I've been learning from my father for a few years and I can barely do some of the things, but I'm not as skilled as my father... You might have to bear with it."

As he spoke, his eyes welled up with tears again, probably because he was thinking of his parents.

Jiang Sheng quickly tried to distract him, "Okay, okay, we can't stay in this clinic anymore. Fourth Brother, take your things and come home with us."

Home?

A home without parents?

Wen Zhiyun smiled sadly, tears welling in her eyes, and replaced the tree branch for Xu Mo, then wrapped all the medicines in oil paper.

These are the foundation of the clinic, and also what Xu Mo needs most.

"Is that all you're bringing?" Jiang Sheng's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. "Aren't you bringing anything else?"

Bedding, cotton-padded clothes, cotton-padded shoes—these are all good things.

"Do we need to bring anything else?" Wen Zhiyun asked, puzzled.

Jiang Sheng shut her mouth and showed him through her actions that she would.

She practically emptied the entire clinic; if it weren't for the heavy medicine cabinets and the fact that the dilapidated temple couldn't accommodate a bed, she would have moved everything.

Therefore, Jiang Sheng rented another flatbed cart.

The five children struggled back to the dilapidated temple, and Wen Zhiyun finally understood why they had all been packed up.

This dilapidated temple offers nothing but shelter from the wind and rain.

Fortunately, the clinic had a fairly complete set of supplies.
