On the other side of the room, Su Banxia had just finished washing up. She was like a lazy kitten, exuding a relaxed and comfortable feeling, lying gently on her spacious and tidy desk.
There were some papers and pens on the table. She held a pen in her hand, sometimes writing and drawing, sometimes stopping to think for a moment, carefully calculating the amount of red envelopes received today, with a hint of concentration and excitement in her eyes.
At this moment, the cell phone placed beside suddenly rang, and the crisp ringtone broke the silence in the room.
Su Banxia raised her head slightly and glanced at the phone screen. A hint of surprise flashed in her eyes. Then she reached out and answered the phone, saying softly, "Hello, Professor Lou, what do you want to talk to me about?"
On the other end of the phone, Lou Jiyun heard her voice, and the corners of his mouth rose slightly, revealing a gentle smile. Suddenly, he had the urge to tease her, so he smiled and said, "Why, can't I find you if there's nothing wrong?"
Su Banxia was flustered when she heard this. Her cheeks flushed slightly and she waved her hands hastily. Although the other party couldn't see her movements, she quickly explained, "No... no, I didn't mean that. I was just... just a little curious."
Lou Jiyun could hear her panic and found it funny, so he stopped teasing her and said with a smile, "Okay, that's enough teasing. I just wanted to say something to you before the first bell of the New Year. Is it convenient for you to talk to me now? Or I can call you later."
Su Banxia subconsciously glanced at the clock on the wall and found that it was still thirteen minutes until twelve o'clock.
Her heartbeat suddenly quickened, and an inexplicable expectation surged in her heart. Without thinking, she answered, "I have time."
As soon as she said this, she realized that she had answered too quickly. The blush on her face instantly spread to her ears, and she secretly blamed herself for being so unrestrained.
But the words have been spoken, like spilled water, and can never be taken back.
To hide her embarrassment, Su Banxia casually added, "Actually, watching the Spring Festival Gala is quite boring."
Lou Jiyun didn't pay attention to her words and followed her words and said: "Well, actually I don't really like watching it either."
Su Banxia felt a little less nervous after hearing him say that, and took the initiative to ask, "So what do you do every New Year's Eve?"
When Lou Jiyun heard her question, he actually spoke to her seriously, "In the past, before we all got married, after eating New Year's Eve dinner at home, we would all get together and find a quiet place to chat, drink, and share our experiences and feelings of the past year. Those times were always so beautiful and carefree."
At this point, a hint of nostalgia flashed through his eyes, as if he'd returned to those happy days. "But in recent years, everyone's started their own families, and life has become busier, so we haven't been able to get together much. After the New Year's Eve dinner, I usually go back to my study to work, taking this time to organize my thoughts and prepare for the new year."
"You're still working on New Year's Eve?" Su Banxia couldn't help but sigh, a hint of admiration and surprise in her eyes. She raised her head slightly, looked at the fireworks flashing outside the window, and thought to herself, "No wonder he became a professor. It must have taken so much effort and time. It's really not easy."
"What about you?" Lou Jiyun smiled and asked her. There was a hint of curiosity in his voice, wanting to know how Su Banxia spent New Year's Eve.
"As for me," Su Banxia tilted her head slightly, thought for a moment, and then said, "I usually have dinner with my family, set off some fireworks, and watch the Spring Festival Gala. It's just a simple celebration. But this year is especially different. My eldest sister-in-law is pregnant, which adds a lot of joy to the family. And my second sister-in-law has also arrived, so we all talk and laugh together, and it's especially lively. And Brother Qingzhu is here too, which makes the house feel even warmer. I'm really having a great time today!"
"Oh, that sounds really good. It's really enviable." Lou Jiyun's words floated gently out of the receiver with a hint of emotion.
"What's wrong? Isn't Professor Lou's house lively and bustling? Are you feeling a little bored now?" Su Banxia asked bluntly. As soon as she said this, she realized something was wrong. An expression of annoyance instantly appeared on her face. She hurriedly said, "I...I didn't mean that. I'm...I'm sorry."
"It's okay, I don't mind. But..." Lou Jiyun paused, a barely perceptible smile in his voice, "It's not boring either. For example, right now, it's nice to be able to chat with you."
Although Su Banxia was somewhat slow in emotional development, she instantly understood what he meant. Her heartbeat quickened, and the hand holding the phone trembled slightly. For a moment, she didn't know how to respond. Her cheeks burned, and her mind went blank.
Without hearing her answer, Lou Jiyun guessed that she must have been frightened by his words again. The corners of his mouth rose slightly, revealing a doting smile, and he said softly: "Xia Xia, Happy New Year."
Su Banxia was still immersed in panic. Hearing this, she subconsciously froze for a moment, thinking: Is it already twelve o'clock? Suddenly, there was a loud "bang" above her head. She looked up and saw gorgeous fireworks suddenly blooming in the night sky, instantly lighting up the entire sky.
"Happy New Year." Su Banxia came back to her senses and said softly.
Although they were separated by the phone, Lou Jiyun's mind clearly reflected her smiling face at the moment, her bright eyes, and slightly upturned mouth, as if she were right next to him. He also unconsciously raised the corners of his mouth, his eyes full of tenderness and sweetness.
