Chapter 10
Furuya Rei and Morofushi Kagemitsu looked at each other in their temporary accommodations arranged by the organization.
"Hello, my name is Midorikawa Yui, a sniper." Morofushi Hiromitsu took the initiative to introduce himself, breaking the awkward atmosphere.
Rei Furuya snapped out of his daze: "Toru Amuro, the intelligence broker."
Then the atmosphere became awkward again.
These two people, one a police officer from the National Police Agency and the other a police officer from the Metropolitan Police Department, were childhood friends, but neither of them knew they would meet the other here.
Because the two were chosen for their talents and trained as undercover agents, they consciously distanced themselves from their original social circles after graduation. As a result, neither of them realized that the other was doing the same thing. Now that they have met again here, they suddenly realize what happened before.
Despite having many questions to ask, this was the organization's territory, and no one knew whether there were any surveillance cameras or listening devices installed. So after exchanging normal greetings, the two found places to sit down.
Morofushi Kagemitsu was adjusting his sniper rifle, while Furuya Rei was checking his emails on his phone. The two waited silently.
Although they have now stepped into the organization's doorstep, they have not yet been examined and are not officially members. Their intelligence is limited; they have only been given this address and told to arrive today. As for how many people will come or what they will do, they have no idea.
The only certainty is that someone in charge of the inspection will come. If the inspector is observing them through surveillance or something similar, the safest thing to do is to do nothing.
I don't know how much time had passed, but suddenly I heard the sound of the door opening.
The first person to enter the living room was a tall man with silver hair and sharp, sinister eyes. In the information the undercover agents had, this was a key figure to watch, codenamed Gin.
Following closely behind was someone whose information had been gathered by the undercover agents, codenamed Vodka, who was said to be Gin's partner and underling, and who was inseparable from Gin.
According to the information, Gin's status seems to be quite high. Furuya Rei and Morofushi Kagemitsu originally thought they would only meet him after they went deeper into the organization, but they didn't expect to meet him as newcomers... Did they attract attention?
Unsure whether it was good news or bad, both undercover agents were on edge and stood up from the sofa.
Before they could say anything, Vodka said impatiently, "Hurry up, why are you so slow!"
Is anyone else still waiting to come in?
From the angle of the sofa where Rei Furuya is, you can see a little bit of what's happening at the door.
He didn't bother to hide his actions. After all, he was now an intelligence dealer, so it was normal for him to be a little curious. He simply tilted his body and looked openly at the door.
A few seconds later, a bulky figure dragging a suitcase appeared in Furuya Rei's field of vision.
Compared to Gin and Vodka's concise and efficient actions, this person's movements seemed somewhat sluggish, and it was unclear what was in his suitcase; he appeared to be walking with great difficulty.
Even with sunglasses obscuring his face, Vodka's expression clearly showed his speechlessness: "Are you that weak?"
"Because there's no elevator here..." the person said breathlessly, looking very aggrieved.
He sounded very young and seemed to be in poor physical condition, but he actually complained about the elevator in front of the organization members. If he wasn't fearless, then he probably didn't understand the workplace.
As Furuya Rei made his own judgment while observing the organization members, he noticed that, for some reason, Vodka seemed even more speechless upon hearing this answer.
Furuya Rei, of course, had no idea that Vodka was currently internally cursing—"You're a guy who survived the Middle East, what are you pretending to be so weak for?! Most ordinary people wouldn't be this out of breath dragging a suitcase up three flights of stairs!!!"
You get a bullet, and all your ailments are instantly cured—a medical miracle, right?
Gin's forehead veins throbbed slightly from the performance: "Put the things at the door, and come here!"
The person finally dropped their suitcase and jogged into the living room.
As soon as he entered the living room, he took off the hood of his down jacket, revealing a head of messy white hair and a handsome face that made it hard to tell whether he was a high school student or a college student.
Vodka said sternly, "Now that everyone's here..."
The sound of zipping up a down jacket interrupted the vodka.
To be honest, in this weather, wearing a down jacket is already a bit too warm, so it's normal to take off your coat when you go indoors.
The problem was that after the silver-haired boy took off his down jacket, he was wearing a trench coat underneath, which was bulging and it was unclear what else was underneath. Under everyone's gaze, he took off three more layers before finally wearing only a seasonal knit sweater and sweatpants, and breathed a sigh of relief in the warm room.
Everyone just watched silently: "…………"
The boy, seemingly still reeling from the heat, finally realized where he was. He glanced cautiously at Gin and whispered, "My suitcase is full... I..."
Vodka was already hallucinating that "we ordinary people wear clothes that don't fit us," so he quickly interrupted, "Nobody cares what you wear, just do what the organization tells you to do!"
"Okay," the boy obediently replied, then looked around. "Um, should I introduce myself now?"
Vodka covered his forehead, while Gin took a deep breath silently.
Do you think this is a classroom for introducing transfer students?! Are you acting like an ordinary person?!
I was hoping to give them a hard time, but now the atmosphere is completely ruined!
Furuya Rei and Morofushi Kagemitsu were filled with questions, but they dared not let their guard down.
Although this young man doesn't seem to fit the organization's atmosphere at all, since the organization has taken a liking to him, he must have some extraordinary abilities. Perhaps he's just pretending to be weak while actually being strong.
Since Gin and Vodka didn't answer, the boy seemed to take it as tacit agreement and started introducing himself on his own.
"Hello, my name is Bo Yezhaiji."
Rei Furuya's persona is that of a bit of a troublemaker, and since it wasn't a big deal, he simply ignored Gin and replied with a smile, "I'm Tooru Amuro, and he's Yui Midorikawa."
"Hello." With a shy smile, Usoppei introduced them, "This is Gin, and this is Vodka..."
Vodka: "..." You introduced me?!
Gin had taken a cigarette out of the pack, probably to calm down, but then he heard Usuo Saiki's "kind help," and the cigarette was instantly bent in the air.
"Shut up!"
Usakabe Saiki seemed to be startled and fell silent.
Regardless of whether he was faking it or not, seeing his reaction, Gin's expression softened, and he got to the point: "You all know why you're here."
As he spoke, he observed the expressions of Furuya Rei and Morofushi Kagemitsu, trying to discern whether they were feeling guilty.
Morofushi Kagemitsu smiled and said, "Excuse me, I don't quite understand. Could you explain it more clearly?"
Vodka chimed in, "Someone recommended you to higher authorities. There's a mission here to assess your performance. If you pass, you can officially join the organization."
Rei Furuya raised an eyebrow.
Usoya Saiki raised his hand and asked, "What if the performance is unsatisfactory?"
"..." Vodka looked at him coldly, "Then no one will avenge your father."
The father's revenge?
The two undercover agents immediately remembered the keyword.
Usakabe Saiki seemed to suddenly feel downcast, looking down at the ground.
He was secretly sighing to himself.
Wow, even vodka's acting is better than mine. I'm starting to look at him in a new light.
System: [No, I think he's genuinely annoyed with you right now...]
"So, what kind of mission is it?" Furuya Rei asked.
“Disqualify the current mayor of Fukuoka from running for office.” Vodka smiled sinisterly. “The means don’t matter.”
"The mayor of Fukuoka City... Mayor Harada, is it?" Furuya Rei adopted the air of an information broker. "If I remember correctly, he is very lenient towards the underworld. Wouldn't it be more advantageous for us if he were in power?"
Gin said coldly, "His partners are not us."
So what if we're lenient with the underworld? It only attracts competitors, and the benefits still don't go to them.
“I see.” Furuya Rei gave a very fake look of sudden realization. “On the one hand, we need to weaken the official power of our competitors. On the other hand, the chaos in Fukuoka is definitely not going to be resolved in the short term. Replacing someone else will only make things worse. It’s more suitable to fish in troubled waters… Hmm, I’m all set.”
After giving a few more instructions, Vodka left with Gin.
After getting into the car, recalling Usui Saiki's expression when he said the mission destination was Fukuoka, Vodka couldn't help but ask, "Won't that kid Usui realize that the destination is Hakata Port and that the organization is targeting him?"
“If he’s a smart man, he’ll know this is normal.” Gin finally lit a cigarette, his expression much more relaxed. “The organization needs to open up more smuggling routes; we can’t let him have too much influence in this area.”
Moreover, this is also a warning, to make Bo Yezhaiji understand that he is not irreplaceable, and to stop causing trouble.
The things he's doing now will have to be paid for when the organization no longer needs him!
Thanks to his previous trip to Hakata to deal with traitors and search for Usui Saiki, Gin took the opportunity to investigate Hakata and found that it was a really suitable place for the organization to enter the fray, even if it required more manpower and effort in the early stages.
The network here is truly comprehensive; you can find everything. Building good relationships or becoming a local strongman can effectively alleviate the difficulties faced by the smuggling network within the organization.
The Boss was already worried about the lack of smuggling routes and the fact that one company dominated the Middle East route. As soon as Gin submitted his report, it was quickly approved.
If the goal is simply to manage Hakata, then cannon fodder is useless. The situation there is really complicated; one person goes and another dies. We need more elites, but the number of executives left in Japan is limited. Gin can only ask the recruitment department to hire more people, and he will also pay attention to the quality of the new recruits to see if there are any who can be used directly.
It was precisely because the organization suddenly wanted to recruit more people that the National Police Agency and the Metropolitan Police Department, who originally wanted to train the new recruits again, became worried that the organization might be planning something big.
Currently, their undercover agents in the organization are either dead or missing, so they must send in undercover agents quickly. In addition, recruiting a large number of people is a good opportunity to fish in troubled waters. If they miss this opportunity, they will not get another chance. That's why they hastily chose Furuya Rei and Morofushi Kagemitsu, who performed the best.
Vodka pondered, "What if Thin Leaf figured out the organization's purpose and wanted to sabotage it secretly?"
Gin sneered: "Isn't that perfect? Those who expose their disloyalty should..."
"Brother, forget about loyalty. Even if he is an undercover agent, we can't kill him now."
"…………"
Well said, but don't say it again.
Gin's expression darkened as he stubbed out his cigarette: "The Boss can't tolerate him forever."
Vodka dared not say anything else, and could only echo, "That's right! No one can tolerate his temper! He'll die a horrible death sooner or later!"
Meanwhile, inside the safe house, Rei Furuya tapped on the table.
"Everyone, I think we don't need any more pleasantries, let's get straight to the point—we already know the mission details, so what are you all good at? Let's discuss it, shall we?"
Usakabe Saiki readily replied, "I guess you could call me an intelligence agent; I'm very good at finding my way around."
Jianggu Ling: "...?"
Which intelligence agency's personnel are particularly skilled at finding their way around? Is this some kind of code or secret language?
At this moment, Furuya Rei had no idea how much information was contained in the phrase "good at finding the way," or how much of a shock it had given him.
