Chapter 25
Officer Komatsu cautiously observed the person opposite him.
The young man's hair was like the night sky outside, a deep, almost dark blue, and his eyes were like pools of blood. If you accidentally met his gaze, you felt a terrifying sense of danger, as if your soul would be sucked away.
He was wearing a military-style jacket with a small stand-up collar. He sat on a simple chair in the police station. Although there was a backrest, he did not lean back. His back was straight, his long legs were crossed, and his hands, wearing black leather gloves, were clasped together and rested lightly on his legs. His posture was calm and elegant, and he managed to make the cramped police station look like the command center of an enemy force.
Officer Komatsu glanced at it and immediately looked away as if he had been burned, then secretly glanced at it again before quickly pretending nothing had happened.
He just finished watching a movie called "The Silence of the Lambs" yesterday, and he felt that this person was somewhat similar to the cannibalistic doctor Hannibal Lecter in the movie.
The same elegance, the same composure, the same chilling quality, the same quality that would probably give him nightmares at night.
The moment he saw this man on patrol, he felt his own police DNA stir.
Inspector Komatsu had never felt his thoughts race so quickly—this guy was on the phone, was he contacting his accomplices? There was a bank right across the street, could he be planning a bank robbery…?
One hand was in his pocket—was he holding a gun? Would it be too dangerous for him to go forward now, what if the other person attacked immediately…?
Despite his concerns, Officer Komatsu quickly made up his mind.
He was a policeman! His sense of justice made it impossible for him to let such a suspicious person linger in his jurisdiction—especially since a kidnapping had just occurred in his jurisdiction, a time when everyone needed to be on high alert!
So, Officer Komatsu mustered his courage and tried to question the other person to see if he could find any evidence against them.
Officer Komatsu only managed to say one sentence: "Hello, may I bother you for a moment?"
He didn't expect that, no sooner had he finished speaking than the voice of his colleague, whom he heard every day, came from the other person's phone: "Wait, is that Xiaosong?! Xiaosong, where are you right now? Please invite this person over!"
Officer Komatsu's legs went weak at that moment.
He was actually on the phone with his colleague. Could he be one of those performative criminals who like to call the police to provoke them?!
That's it, this person is definitely dangerous!
His mind went almost blank. His hand instinctively reached for the stun gun, and all he could say mechanically was, "Please come with me..."
By the time he came to his senses, the person had already been taken back to the police station.
His colleagues looked at him like he was a hero, whispering questions about how he did it. They all wanted to go out and rescue him... But he didn't know either!
Perhaps it's because the other party was very cooperative?
Upon hearing this answer, the police officers immediately became extremely wary—was this some new kind of provocation? Were they really so sure they couldn't find any evidence?!
The missing girl's phone is still in your hands! How are you going to explain this?!
The young man calmly said, "I found it by the roadside."
Police officers: "…………"
You don't even think before you make up lies, who are you looking down on?!
What's the difference between this and telling the teacher you did your homework but forgot to bring it?! It's obviously a lie!
Faced with their questions, the other side responded calmly and rationally: "I am a police academy student. It is normal for me to hand in a cell phone I find on the street. Your instructors should have taught you that you should not make assumptions without evidence. You should focus on catching the real culprit."
Police officers: "...???"
After confirming that his instructor was Onizuka, Officer Komatsu, a former student of the Onizuka class, quickly called Onizuka to verify the information and received a very unacceptable answer.
If this person really is Hanchuan Shenliu, then he really is a police academy student.
...Why would they hire this guy? He looks like an undercover agent sent by some kind of XX group! He's got such a strong presence; a small gang couldn't have raised him. He might even be from a top-tier organization like the Muddy Gang, maybe even the next leader...
Has the principal gone mad in just one year? I didn't notice it before.
As Officer Komatsu was lost in thought, he suddenly heard someone approaching quickly. He looked up and was surprised to see a familiar figure.
"Hagiwara?"
He and Kenji Hagiwara were in the same year, both in the Onizuka class, and he was deeply impressed by the five troublemakers.
Kenji Hagiwara recognized him too: "Komatsu, long time no see... I've heard everything from Instructor Onizuka. I'm sorry to have troubled you. I think it must be a misunderstanding... Fukaru!"
Hearing this cheesy call, Officer Komatsu couldn't help but shiver.
He looked at Han Chuan Shenliu in horror, unable to believe that he would let others call him such an adorable nickname.
Kenji Hagiwara noticed Officer Komatsu's expression and said with a smile, "Don't let his cold demeanor fool you, he's actually a very nice person. Look, he doesn't even get angry when I call him that."
Officer Komatsu: “…………”
No, he couldn't see anything wrong with this person; in fact, he still couldn't accept that this was a police academy student who would become his colleague...
When Usaku Saiki saw that Hagiwara Kenji had arrived, he got up and walked over there.
Although they treated him as a suspect, they at least had some common sense and didn't actually handcuff him; otherwise, he would have taught these police officers a lesson.
Kenji Hagiwara was still asking his classmates about the situation: "So someone was kidnapped? And then Fuka Nagato happened to find the kidnapped person's phone, right?"
“Yes.” Officer Komatsu still gets goosebumps when he hears ‘Little Deep Current’. “So everyone’s very busy right now.”
Kenji Hagiwara frowned: "I see. Are there any clues on the phone?"
“This… there’s a strange email, it’s like some kind of code.” Officer Komatsu glanced at Usui Saiki standing next to Kenji Hagiwara out of the corner of his eye. “But the phone has already been handed over to the Metropolitan Police Department, and according to regulations, I can’t tell you too much until the case is solved.”
They were all classmates who knew each other well, but if Kenji Hagiwara wanted to know, Officer Komatsu wouldn't mind saying a few more words. After all, rules are rules, but people are flexible. As long as nothing goes wrong, no one will hold them accountable.
But isn't there a Hanchuan Fukami-ryu right next to it?
Even though I already knew he was a future police officer, I still felt inexplicably uneasy. I felt like I couldn't discuss this kind of topic in front of him, otherwise it would feel like I was giving intelligence to the enemy...
Kenji Hagiwara paused for a moment, then immediately understood Officer Komatsu's concerns.
He considerately gave up asking further questions: "Okay, then good luck to you guys. But Xiao Shenliu only found a phone, so he can leave after registering it, right?"
"Uh, yes, if there's anything we can do for you after the case, we might have to trouble you then..."
Officer Komatsu thought to himself, "When this happens, it means that the suspicion against Shinryu Kanakawa has increased. I hope this doesn't happen, or the reputation of the Metropolitan Police Department Police Academy might be ruined!"
Kenji Hagiwara originally wanted to chat with his old classmates for a bit, such as remembering that the class president had also been assigned to work here, and wanted to ask where the class president was, but seeing how stressed Officer Komatsu looked even when answering a normal question, he paused subtly for a second: "Okay, then we'll be going now. I hope you find that poor girl soon..."
No way, this year's students are already eating next to Han Chuan Shenliu. Even if they are a distance away and eat a little faster, it's still a normal meal. But it seems that Xiao Song and the others can't eat when they are next to Han Chuan Shenliu.
The difference is too big!
Kenji Hagiwara sighed and tried to lead Shinryu Hakkawa out, but Shinryu Hakkawa didn't move.
"Little Fukaru?" Kenji Hagiwara called out, puzzled.
Usakabe Saiki slowly gave Officer Komatsu a series of addresses, then said, "You can go here and take a look; maybe you'll find some clues."
Officer Komatsu: "...?!?!?!"
What does this mean?! Does this guy really know something?! None of the police officers investigating this case have ever heard of this address, how could this guy know more than them?!
Kenji Hagiwara was also taken aback, but he was more immune to the effects of the "behind-the-scenes halo" than Officer Komatsu, and he regained his rationality quickly, trying to analyze the situation.
Smart people know when to shut up, and Hanchuan Shenliu isn't a show-off or performative personality, so there must be a reason for it.
Could it be that he discovered something when he found the phone?
Kenji Hagiwara asked directly, "Why does Fukami Nagare feel there are clues there?"
Usakabe Saiki tapped the file on Officer Komatsu's desk with his chin, which contained a copy of the email content: "That's what it says."
Officer Komatsu snapped out of his daze, and after being glanced at by him, he instinctively reached out to cover the documents on the table. Realizing what he had done, he sheepishly put his hands back down: "You mean, you've deciphered the code?"
Strange. According to the timeline he went over with his colleagues, his colleague had just finished a few words with Hanchuan Shenliu on the phone when he appeared and confiscated the phone as evidence. Moreover, the phone was password protected; it could answer calls but not check emails. They only managed to crack the password because they knew Ms. Ohara's birthday...
It's impossible that this guy came over, took a look, and deciphered the code in less than a minute, right?
Because of the angle, what Hanchuan Shenliu saw was upside down—his own handwritten cursive script! How could he see that clearly and even decipher the code!?
Officer Komatsu was a little incredulous: "How did you figure that out?"
Bo Yezaki said calmly, "This is not a code. She misplaced the key when she was typing blindly, and she misplaced it several times."
Han Chuan Shenliu's initial character was designed to join the organization. It's not easy to survive in the organization, so it's normal for him to exchange for skills to crack codes, right?
Kenji Hagiwara took it and looked at it for a while, mentally translating the button presses, and then, a beat late, came to the conclusion: "It really is."
Having gained Kenji Hagiwara's approval, Officer Komatsu hurriedly began making phone calls.
Bo Yezaki comforted him, saying, "Don't worry, the seniors may have already discovered such a simple problem."
Officer Komatsu: “…………”
Can you please stop calling me "senior"? I'm so scared... We're all innocent... This is supposed to be a quick and easy way to experience being an undercover agent...
However, it seems that Usakabe Saiki overestimated the efficiency of the local police. When Officer Komatsu called, they were still struggling to crack the email code, only to find that it had already been cracked, which surprised them all.
"I see, it's so simple. I overcomplicated it..." His colleague on the other end of the phone was excited. "Did you crack it? You really can't judge a book by its cover! I'll apply for a commendation for you later..."
“No,” Officer Komatsu said weakly. “It was Mr. Kankawa, who found the phone, who cracked it. Perhaps we can help him apply for a reward for helping solve the case…”
A deathly silence fell on the other end of the phone.
In this agonizing silence, Kenji Hagiwara's phone suddenly rang.
He glanced at the caller ID, then answered the phone: "Instructor..."
Instructor Onizuka's tone was grave: "We've arrived? You've seen the person, right? How is it? Are you sure everything's alright?"
“Uh…” Kenji Hagiwara paused for a moment.
Instructor Onizuka's heart leaped into his throat; he was utterly alarmed: "He just picked up a phone, did he really get involved?!"
“No, Instructor.” Kenji Hagiwara coughed. “Kami-ryu helped solve the case. If there are no problems, the school might even commend him…”
Instructor Onizuka: "...???"
I finally managed to avoid the awkwardness of him taking the oath as a representative of the new students, and now this time he suddenly wants to be commended?!
Is there really no way to avoid it?!

Xiaosong: I'm a legitimate police officer, please don't call me "senior," it makes me feel disoriented... A painless experience of being an undercover agent...
