The disfigured man was very thoughtful and remained calm throughout, something that neither Shen Jingchuan nor Wen Yan had considered.
Shen Jingchuan didn't delay and immediately dialed the police.
After providing the address with the help of the disfigured man, Shen Jingchuan immediately learned from the operator that the police station had indeed dispatched officers.
When it was mentioned that the perpetrators might have already driven away from the industrial park, the operator immediately asked Shen Jingchuan if he knew the car model and license plate number.
Unfortunately, Shen Jingchuan didn't see anything clearly just now.
Wen Yan was the same; her heart was in her throat just now, so who would be in the mood to look at those two ridiculous car models?
But at that moment, the disfigured man accurately revealed a string of numbers and the car's exterior features.
The way Shen Jingchuan and Wen Yan looked at the disfigured man changed immediately.
Wen Yan then asked, "How were you able to observe so carefully in that situation? I didn't dare to look at the front of their car at all, for fear of making eye contact with them."
Shen Jingchuan returned the phone to him and thanked him.
The man took the phone and replied hoarsely with "You're welcome," before briefly answering Wen Yan's question.
"Former professional habits."
Wen Yan opened her mouth, immediately connecting his current appearance with his former profession.
He mentioned it was a professional habit, so it's very likely he used to be a police officer. The reason he turned out this way is probably because something happened while he was on duty.
However, Wen Yan didn't ask any more questions, since it would be very impolite to ask such hurtful questions.
After spending these ten-odd minutes together, Wen Yan and Shen Jingchuan's wariness of the disfigured man was not as strong as it had been at the beginning.
However, Shen Jingchuan still decided to get to the bottom of the situation.
"You just said you'd take us to your place. Is it safe there? Those two idiots—I mean those two thugs—they might not have left the park yet. Could they find their way to your place?"
“They’re not familiar with this area, so finding my place won’t be easy. I know what you’re worried about, but right now you don’t have any transportation, and there aren’t any other buildings or houses around. If you two try to walk out like this, the risk might be even higher. I believe the police should arrive soon. At the very least, I still have tools in my house. Even if those two come back, we’ll still have a chance of winning, four against two.”
The disfigured man's words made sense. In the end, the two decided to go back to his place with him to take refuge.
While being vigilant is not a bad thing, the fact that the disfigured man and his companion risked their lives to save them shows that they are not bad people, or at least not with those two.
The group stumbled back to the disfigured man's residence, relying on a cell phone flashlight for light.
It was a small tin shack, quite well sealed off; only when you got close could you see a sliver of dim light coming through the cracks in the door and windows. From a distance, you couldn't see anything at all.
No wonder the disfigured man said it wouldn't be easy to find where he lived; even with a lantern, he couldn't find it this late at night!
He had barely knocked on the door when he heard another man's voice from inside.
"Third Brother, is that you?"
"It's me." The disfigured man's hoarse and broken voice was so distinctive that the person inside immediately opened the door of the tin shack.
Wen Yan and Shen Jingchuan recognized the voice; it was indeed the patrolman who had used a diversionary tactic to lure the two thugs away.
He glanced behind Wen Yan and the others several times, then asked the disfigured man with some concern.
"Those two didn't chase after us, did they? Those bastards, they gave me a real run over earlier, they almost ran me over with their car."
The disfigured man shook his head, and as light spilled into the room, he pulled his hat down even tighter.
"No, they must have gone looking for someone. We deliberately waited until their car was far away before we set off back."
After explaining, he added, "Let's go inside."
The four entered the tin shack.
The disfigured man quickly found a large mask, put it on, and then sat in the darkest corner of the room.
After confirming that it was temporarily safe, Shen Jingchuan immediately checked the wound on Wen Yan's lower back.
The patrolman from earlier also subconsciously glanced at Wen Yan's lower back.
Shen Jingchuan noticed his gaze and immediately blocked Wen Yan's view.
Upon seeing Shen Jingchuan make such a move, the patrolman immediately understood his intention.
He gave an awkward laugh and explained, "Don't get me wrong, I'm not some pervert. I just glanced at this girl because she was injured. By the way, we have some disinfectant and cotton swabs here, would you like some?"
Shen Jingchuan still firmly blocked Wen Yan: "Yes, thank you for your help."
"Wait a moment, I'll go get it."
Soon, the patrolman came over with a bottle of iodine and a bag of cotton swabs.
"Third Brother prepared everything. Don't let our small tin shack's dilapidated and simple appearance fool you. It may be small, but it has everything you need. Third Brother has everything you need."
"Thanks!"
Shen Jingchuan took the iodine and cotton swabs and was about to disinfect Wen Yan's wound.
The patrolmen were worried for him because he hadn't even taken off his clothes.
"Don't worry, we won't look. How can you disinfect through your clothes like this? I'll turn around, okay?"
This person talks way too much.
