Chapter 25 Paternity Testing

Su Yang stood there stunned for a long while before she came to her senses.

It seems that Yan Yan had complained about Zhi Rou before, but the two were already openly and secretly fighting each other back then.

Yan Yan often makes some little tricks, which she and Shen Yuan both notice.

"Mom? Mom. What's wrong? Is there a problem with the report?"

"No!" Su Yang was pulled back by Wen Yan's voice in real life. "I'm looking for it now, but I can't remember which files it's under. Let me look again."

As she spoke, Su Yang began searching.

She quickly took a document out of a file folder.

"Let me show you. Back then, your dad, Zhirou, and I all had samples taken to confirm that we are indeed related as parents."

Wen Yan couldn't quite understand the overly technical data, but when she looked at the final data showing a 99.9% genetic similarity, even an illiterate person could understand it.

However… “Mom, didn’t you say that Zhirou had a bone marrow transplant? Then her DNA should be different from yours, right? Doesn’t this result actually indicate a problem?”

"No problem. Human DNA is determined by genetics. Bone marrow transplantation only changes blood cells, such as changing blood type. Our identification is done by comparing hair samples."

"Oh." Wen Yan nodded, somewhat illiterate, but she still wanted to ask, "Was the agency that did the paternity test for you back then reliable?"

"Of course it's reliable. It's the most authoritative institution in the city, and it cooperates with the public security bureau and the court."

Wen Yan nodded.

"Have you visited Zhirou's adoptive parents' home? What kind of environment did Zhirou grow up in during those ten years? They were able to perform surgery on Zhirou and take good care of her for so many years, so their family must have been quite well-off."

"That's right. They have their own business and have spent a lot of money on Zhirou's illness, which most people couldn't afford. I'm really grateful to them. It's like destiny. We adopted you and treated you like our own daughter, and they adopted Zhirou and treated her like their own daughter too. So people should do more good deeds, and accumulating good karma will surely bring blessings."

Wen Yan was still questioning why Shen Zhirou's adoptive parents would be so kind.

But Su Yang's words shut her up completely.

Because Su Yang was right. She and Shen Yuan adopted the original owner of this body and raised an orphan into a rich young lady. Wasn't that out of good intentions?

Kindness is never lacking in the world; it happens all the time.

But how could such kind biological and adoptive parents raise a child with a personality like Shen Zhirou?

Could it be that he was tormented by illness?

"Mom, I have another request. I believe that after Zhirou came back, you and Dad must have investigated the family background of her adoptive parents, right?"

"Yes, we did investigate."

"Can I take a look?"

“Yes, it is possible,” Su Yang frowned, “but Mom also wants to ask you, why do you suddenly want to know these things?”

"Ah... how should I answer Ms. Su's question? There's no evidence left for what happened before. They definitely cared about Shen Zhirou a hundred times, a thousand times more than I did. The paternity test was fine, yet I raised questions without any supporting evidence. Wouldn't that make me look stupid?"

[Besides, I didn't want to hurt Ms. Su's feelings. After all, this was just my guess, and I don't need to take responsibility for a guess, but that's her own daughter, whom she carried for ten months. If my doubts caused her sleepless nights or even made her depressed again, then I would be a complete ingrate. Ah, Ms. Su, please forgive me for lying to you this once.]

Wen Yan immediately smiled ingratiatingly and said, "Because I want to get along well with Zhi Rou, and before that, I want to learn more about her."

"Okay, then I'll show it to you." Su Yang then went to the cabinet to look for the documents. The moment she turned around, she looked preoccupied.

Yan Yan had complained about Zhi Rou before, but Zhi Rou denied it all, saying she had never bullied Yan Yan.

Later, Yan Yan went even further, always starting a 'war' first, clearly behaving like the boy who cried wolf.

But now, Su Yang doesn't know who to trust.

Just as she was struggling with this, Su Yang suddenly heard Wen Yan's voice.

[I really want to take a picture, but I'm too embarrassed to do it in front of Ms. Su. Our super cute, beautiful, elegant, and noble Ms. Su, if only you could turn around right now!]

One second Su Yang was still troubled, the next second she was amused by Wen Yan's flattery.

She sighed inwardly, turned around silently, and pretended to look for something in the cabinet.

Wen Yan's eyes lit up immediately, and she quickly snapped some photos.

Embarrassingly, in her haste, she accidentally turned on the flash.

The moment the camera clicked and the flash went off, Wen Yan was completely stunned.

Su Yang clearly knew everything, but she pretended not to notice.

Wen Yan was the first to breathe a sigh of relief.

[Phew, thankfully Ms. Su was focused and didn't notice the commotion I made. That's really enough. If someone sent me as a spy, I'd probably be laughing my head off before I even caught them red-handed.]

"Mom, I've checked it, I've put it on the table."

"Okay, just leave it there, I'll tidy it up in a bit."

Finally able to turn around, Su Yang handed Wen Yan several design drafts.

"Didn't I just say I had something to show you? This is it."

"Beautiful!" It was a set of jewelry design drafts, including a necklace and earrings.

"But Mom, even though I studied design, I've really embarrassed you. I didn't do well at it. What are you showing me?"

Su Yang chuckled: "What? Did I expect you to give me pointers? You chose it. It's your birthday present."

"My birthday? It's still a long way off."

"But jewelry making takes time, so of course you need to prepare in advance. Take a look and see which set you like."

"Hmm!" It would be a lie to say I wasn't happy. "Then I'll choose carefully."

【Ahhh, every single outfit is so beautiful! Ms. Su is simply the greatest designer in the world. They're all so gorgeous, it's so hard to choose! What should I do? Maybe I should just pick and choose!】

Su Yang chuckled. This girl has such a sweet tongue. No, not just a sweet tongue, but a sweet heart.

"Mom, I think I prefer the forest and ocean series. With your expert perspective, which set do you think suits me better?"

“At your age, I think the forest suits you better; it’s more vibrant…”

Inside the study, the mother and daughter chatted about jewelry.

Outside the study, on the third floor, Shen Zhirou kept her eyes fixed on the tightly closed door.

She only moved aside when she saw Wen Yan open the door and come out.
