Chapter 40 Shen Jinghe is a jinx.

"So you haven't crossed the bridge yet, right?"

"No, if I remember correctly, it should still be several kilometers away."

"Then you'll have to take a detour! That was really close. The bridge collapsed right after the assistant director's car drove over. The water in the river was just too high."

"Okay, I understand."

"Alright, then we won't wait for you. We'll head back to the hotel first."

After hanging up the phone, Shen Jinghe told Wen Yan about the detour he needed to take.

He immediately re-navigated and chose another route.

However, this road was not easy to travel, and the journey was bumpy the whole way.

Wen Yan jokingly said it felt like riding a bouncy car.

Shen Jinghe retorted, "Be content. You're lucky you didn't get stuck in the mud."

As soon as he finished speaking, the wheels got stuck in the mud and couldn't get out.

Wen Yan glanced at him: "You're not going to be a jinx, are you?"

Shen Jinghe was also frustrated, so he quickly turned off the engine, got out of the car, and found some stones to put under the wheels.

After struggling for a long time, the two still couldn't get the car out.

Having no other option, Shen Jinghe had to call the director.

To make matters worse, there's no cell phone signal here!

Seeing that the rain was getting heavier and heavier, and that Shen Jinghe was walking further and further away in order to find a signal, Wen Yan quickly grabbed an umbrella and chased after him.

Although their phone cards belonged to different operators, Dashan treated them the same.

Neither of them could make calls on their phones.

Wen Yan was speechless: "What are we going to do now? The pit is too deep, and neither of us can push the car."

Shen Jinghe frowned, determined to get out of this dilapidated situation: "As long as the car isn't buried, I refuse to believe we can't get out!"

However, no sooner had he finished speaking than a loud rumble came from behind them!

With a deafening roar, a mudslide made its dramatic appearance.

Just now, the mountains on both sides of where their car was turned off collapsed.

The car was buried instantly...

Wen Yan looked at Shen Jinghe with a pained expression: "6, you can't really be a jinx, can you?"

Shen Jinghe also felt helpless: "I just said it casually."

"Enough!" Wen Yan quickly interrupted him before he could finish speaking. "For our safety, from now on, you mustn't speak anymore. You'll do as I say. Do you agree?"

Shen Jinghe wanted to speak, but thinking of the buried car, he took a deep breath and nodded instead.

After looking around, Wen Yan pointed in a direction they had come from and said, "There are some houses over there, it should be a village. There's probably a signal where there's a village. I suggest we go there and try our luck."

Shen Jinghe continued to nod.

-

"Looking at the mountain makes one run until the horse dies."

Looking at the houses that were so close at hand, the two walked for almost half an hour in the wind and rain before finally arriving.

The good news was that there was a signal in one of the places along the way, and Shen Jinghe called the director and learned that the director and others had successfully returned to the hotel.

Meanwhile, there was also bad news: the director received information that there were multiple landslides in the mountainous area, and the roads in and out of the mountains had been blocked.

Even if Shen Jinghe's car wasn't buried, they still can't get out. They'll have to wait for the government to clear the road before it can be reopened to traffic.

The director told them not to panic and to find a place to stay temporarily.

This is currently the only solution.

Nowadays, there are many elderly people living alone in mountainous rural areas.

The family they stayed at was only occupied by an elderly widow.

The old woman said that decades ago, her home was very lively, her husband was still alive, and her son and daughter were all at home.

But after her children got married, they all moved to the city to work, leaving her alone to look after her two two-story houses belonging to her eldest and youngest sons.

So Wen Yan and Shen Jinghe won't have to worry about having a place to stay tonight.

Although the old lady lives alone, she keeps her house very tidy. The furniture in the unused rooms is covered with plastic sheets, but when you lift them, the rooms are still clean and tidy.

The old woman even took out her son's and daughter-in-law's coats for Wen Yan and Shen Jinghe to change into.

After a wonderful hot bath and some ginger soup, Wen Yan felt completely refreshed.

However, Wen Yan couldn't just eat and drink for free from the old woman, so she took the initiative to help her with the chores.

She does all sorts of chores, from sweeping the floor and peeling peanuts to shelling chestnuts.

Shen Jinghe felt embarrassed to just stand by and do nothing.

To be honest, he had eaten chestnuts before, but this was the first time he had ever heard that they grew inside a bunch of thorns. It was truly bizarre.

He was just a little curious as to how Wen Yan could do these things so skillfully.

He rolled on the ground, stepping on the thorny bushes, and deftly used the scissors in his hand to pick out the fruit.

But thinking about it carefully, she had a tough life before she was adopted when she was around ten years old, and maybe that's when she learned those lessons.

I wonder what her childhood was like.

They must have been very poor and miserable, and then they ended up in an orphanage.

Well, it's good that it didn't turn out badly.

It doesn't seem like a big problem for him to openly or covertly compete with Shen Zhirou.

Let alone her and Shen Zhirou, even between him and the eldest brother, the third brother and the fourth brother, who has a better relationship than whom?

-

And so, the two stayed at the old woman's house for three days and two nights.

The three days and two nights of immersive scenery and fruitful experience were quite rewarding.

Not only did I learn how to start a fire and cook over a wood fire, but I also received a lot of mosquito bites as a gift.

Because of his presence, Wen Yan felt that the mosquitoes no longer bit her.

On the afternoon of the third day, the director personally drove over to pick them up and take them back.

As for their car that was buried by rocks, it's pitiful; it's totaled.
