"It's nothing, I just wanted you to come back and receive the imperial decree with me!"
Lin Yuxin tugged at Lin Shaoyang's sleeve, signaling him to look back.
Lin Shaoyang then turned his head and saw Li Xiaochen standing to the side. He then hurriedly bowed to Li Xiaochen.
"The Regent!"
"Second Brother, there's no need for such formalities!"
Li Xiaochen quickly reached out to help Lin Shaoyang up, looking at him like family.
Lin Shaoyang was stunned! Second brother? Who are you calling? Are you calling him? When did he get a younger brother?
Lin Yuxin facepalmed. She'd seen shameless people before, but never anyone this shameless!
Zhao Hanyue also covered her mouth and chuckled.
Once everyone was ready, Little Li began to read the imperial edict:
"By the grace of Heaven, the Emperor decrees: It has been some time since the Regent Prince Li Xiaochen and Princess Pingning were betrothed. The Regent Prince is also getting on in years, and it is time for them to get married soon. The wedding date is set for February 18th, and it shall not be changed. So be it!"
As Xiao Li read on, he became numb. After finally finishing reading the imperial edict, he didn't even accept the gifts. He respectfully stuffed the edict into Lin Yuxin's hand, then took his leave.
If he doesn't leave now, he'll lose all face. This is the most perfunctory and straightforward imperial edict he's ever issued!
Your Majesty, how impatient were you when you wrote this? Couldn't you have written it more beautifully? Couldn't the sentences have been more elegant? Were you afraid that others wouldn't hear how much resentment you had about this arranged marriage?
Lin Yuxin didn't think much of it. She couldn't stand those flowery, literary pronouncements. This imperial edict was simple, so simple that she could sense that the emperor must have been resentful when he wrote it.
Those present felt the imperial edict was perfunctory and wondered if the emperor had any objections to the marriage.
Only Li Xiaochen walked happily to Lin Yuxin's side and asked expectantly:
"In just over a month, you will be my queen. Are you happy?"
"So happy! I'm incredibly happy!"
Lin Yuxin said through gritted teeth, "If I still don't understand by now, I'm a complete idiot!"
She raised her hand and began her signature pinching technique again, relentlessly questioning him:
"Tell me, was it you who went to see the Emperor? Is this imperial edict something to be taken lightly? You are the regent, how can you go to see the Emperor every day for such trivial matters? Isn't he busy? Huh!"
"Don't you have any sense of responsibility as a prince?!"
What angered Lin Yuxin the most was that once the man issued this imperial decree, she couldn't even slack off anymore. She was planning to attend the state banquet in Zhao next month, and she wanted the wedding to be as simple as possible. Once the wedding was held and she returned to her parents' home, she would set off for Zhao.
Now things are different. The emperor has issued an edict that the regent must marry his principal wife. The ceremony must be conducted with the three letters and six rites, and not a single one can be missing. It must also be a grand affair.
"Ouch, ouch! Be gentle, be gentle!!"
Li Xiaochen grinned and begged softly for mercy.
"Alright, stop bullying the prince. Now that the marriage is settled, Your Highness, please follow the proper etiquette, including the three letters and six rites, none of which can be omitted!"
Zhao Hanyue watched the two bickering without a care in the world, feeling utterly helpless. And with so many servants around? And why did the prince's IQ drop when he met Xin Xin?
She sighed and interrupted their foolishness.
Upon hearing Zhao Hanyya's words, the two stopped what they were doing. Lin Yuxin even got glared at by Zhao Hanyya before turning her eyes away.
Upon hearing Zhao Hanyya's words, Li Xiaochen replied with a serious expression:
"Auntie is right. I will have Butler Mu start preparing the formalities as soon as I get back today. I will make sure Xin Xin is not wronged!"
"Okay! Time is tight and the task is heavy, I have to go. You kids can chat among yourselves!"
Zhao Hanyue nodded in satisfaction, then left.
The servants had mostly left, and Lin Shaoyang walked up to his sister, saying with some sadness:
"Sigh! My sister has only been back for half a year, and she's already getting married again."
"Second brother, even if I get married, I'll still be your sister! Don't worry, if he treats me badly, I'll move back home. You and my eldest brother can't complain about me, okay?"
Lin Yuxin was also feeling bad. Although she had joined the Lin family halfway through her life, her second brother had taken her back to the Lin residence as soon as she arrived. For the past six months, her mother and three brothers had treated her very well, and she was still very reluctant to leave now.
"Alright, if this kid treats you badly, we three brothers will risk our lives to avenge you!!"
Lin Shaoyang looked at Lin Yuxin seriously and said, as if to tell her that he was serious.
"Second brother, don't worry. If he dares to treat me badly or betray me, I'll send him to the afterlife with a bomb!"
Lin Yuxin comforted her second brother, saying that she wanted him to rest assured that she was capable of protecting herself. However, Li Xiaochen's face turned as black as the bottom of a pot.
Could you two please talk bad about me behind my back? We're not even married yet! And you're already plotting to murder your husband?!
Li Xiaochen suddenly felt a chill on the back of his neck, and he quickly interrupted their conversation:
"Second brother, don't worry, Xin Xin is the person I love the most, and I will definitely treat her well!"
Li Xiaochen's address of "Second Brother" completely stumped Lin Shaoyang!
The dignified Regent Prince calls him Second Brother? Is he going out to show off? Or is he just showing off?
And another thing, they're not even married yet? Why is he changing his address now? Does that mean he has to give him a "change of address fee"?
The thought of money cleared Lin Shaoyang's head, and he looked at Li Xiaochen with a serious expression, warning him:
"I hope Your Highness will remember your promise!"
"Don't worry, Second Brother! I'll remember!"
Li Xiaochen answered seriously.
