"Huh? Going to your house? What for?"
Uncle Jin was stunned. He could understand going out for tea, but going to the princess's house was a bit strange!
"It's Chinese New Year! You're spending it alone in Beijing! We're such good friends and business partners. You spent New Year's Eve alone last night, so I absolutely can't let you spend New Year's Day alone today!"
"Besides, there aren't many customers in this shop these past two days of the Lunar New Year. You can close it and reopen it in a couple of days!"
Lin Yuxin felt that this decision was absolutely correct. Putting aside how much dividend Uncle Jin gave her, the fact that when she needed food in Jibei City, Uncle Jin immediately stocked up enough food for her and had her older brother and the others deliver it to her without hesitation was enough for her to repay Uncle Jin's kindness.
Besides, Uncle Jin is indeed quite pitiful. Although he is the richest man in Xia Kingdom and financially independent, he doesn't have a good family, except for his ungrateful wife who cheated on him and even tried to murder him.
His parents weren't good either. The Jin family was a famous family in Nanzhou, but unfortunately his father favored his concubine over his wife, and his mother died when he was about ten years old.
Uncle Jin was often abused by his stepmother, who was promoted from concubine to a higher rank, when he was a child. As a result, Uncle Jin had a bad childhood. Later, his stepmother murdered Uncle Jin for the sake of her own child and abandoned him in the deep mountains.
At that time, Uncle Jin was only sixteen years old. Fortunately, he survived and was rescued by a hunter.
Uncle Jin never went back to that house again. Since he was already dead, he could just live his own life from then on.
So he left Nanzhou and traveled by business and odd jobs until he arrived in the capital. He suffered a lot at first, but gradually he found some tricks and earned some money.
Uncle Jin truly has a talent for business. After accumulating capital, he started opening shops. With his keen eye, his first jade shop made a fortune.
Basically, any stone that Uncle Jin liked could be found to be jade. He gradually built up a reputation in the jade industry. After he had made enough money, he switched to opening a clothing store. At first, he stumbled a few times.
After gaining experience, things got better, and he opened more and more clothing stores. He managed both clothing stores and jade stores, and opened branches in almost every state except for the Southern Continent.
He had sworn never to return to Nanzhou in this lifetime.
So Uncle Jin really has no family left!
Lin Yuxin had been dating Uncle Jin for so long that she considered him a friend, and she didn't want him to spend the New Year alone on such an important day.
"Is...is this appropriate?"
Uncle Jin was somewhat surprised by Lin Yuxin's words. Could it really be like this? It wasn't... quite right for an outsider like him to spend the New Year at the princess's house!
"Why is it inappropriate? My friend spent the New Year at my house yesterday, didn't he? Anyway, no one saw it, so nobody can say anything! Come on, let's close the shop and go celebrate the holiday!"
As Lin Yuxin spoke, she grabbed Jin's wrist and started walking out!
"Hey! Wait a minute! Let me close the shop door for a second!"
Uncle Jin was pulled so hard he almost tripped, but quickly regained his footing and said.
Lin Yuxin paused, and the two of them worked together to clear out the inventory in the shop's small storeroom before closing the door.
Lin Yuxin led Uncle Jin on a stroll, eventually arriving at Shiyalou, where she planned to take him for tea.
The two of them immediately requested a private room.
"Uncle Jin, please have a seat!"
Lin Yuxin casually sat down and pointed to the seat opposite her, saying...
Upon hearing this, Uncle Jin sat down without ceremony, poured himself a cup of tea, and took a sip.
Although he is quite wealthy, he is always busy and doesn't seem to enjoy life as much as he does now.
Uncle Jin suddenly felt that he had made so much money but hadn't enjoyed it at all, which made him feel like he was missing out.
"Do you come here often?"
Uncle Jin looked at Lin Yuxin's practiced movements and asked curiously.
"Hmm! I don't come here often, but sometimes when I'm bored, I come here to listen to these young masters and ladies recite some sentimental poems. There are storytellers here in the afternoon, so you can listen to them to relieve your boredom."
Lin Yuxin also picked up a cup of tea, took a sip, and said calmly.
Unfortunately, entertainment in ancient times was limited to simple things like strolling through the streets, drinking tea, and listening to storytelling.
As for women, admiring flowers and chatting is simply wonderful; Lin Yuxin felt it was already quite remarkable that she hadn't been driven crazy.
Fortunately, she wasn't the kind of woman who was indecisive and weak all the time, otherwise she might have become depressed.
"Hehe! You're quite right, girl!"
Uncle Jin was amused by Lin Yuxin's words.
He's worked hard for half his life, barely getting two days off a year. He should take these two days to relax!
Today is the first day of the Lunar New Year. Although there is a tradition that people don't visit each other's homes on the first day, they can still go out and play!
So there were still a lot of people on the street, and the Shiyalou restaurant was packed with people. When I came up, the waiter said that there was a lantern riddle game this morning, and if you guessed the riddle correctly, you could take those beautiful lanterns home.
Even though it's daytime, those lights are just so beautiful!
Lin Yuxin's eyes lit up when she looked at those lights.
"Does the princess want it?"
Uncle Jin could tell what Lin Yuxin was planning just by looking at her expression.
"Hehe! These lanterns are really pretty. I'd like to take one home, but I don't know if these riddles will be easy to solve!"
Lin Yuxin was self-aware enough. Although she was a military doctor, she might know a little about ancient poetry, but when it came to solving riddles, she was only a half-baked expert.
However, some simpler ones would be better.
"Hehe, I'll do my best in a bit! Maybe I can guess a thing or two?"
Uncle Jin hesitated for a moment, then said something comforting.
