Chapter 83 The East

The orcs live in the far north of the map, so when they travel to human territory, they always head south.

Heading south, the climate gradually became less cold, and it even began to feel like spring, before we reached the previous human base.

Now they set off again, heading towards other human bases, still heading south, but slightly off to the east.

Speaking of the east, there once existed a large human base, second only to the northern base in terms of area and population, called the Eastern Base.

This simple and straightforward naming method differs from the original Red Salt Base, appearing unpretentious yet possessing a calming power.

As Ye Nianzhen recalled these events, she silently criticized Hong Xiao in her mind, and the tall, strong beastman sneezed inexplicably again.

He began to suspect that he might be allergic, because he used to live in a cold region, but now the air is getting warmer and more humid, causing him to have allergies.

In any case, this time they were not heading to the Eastern Base, but to another small base some distance away, which didn't even have a proper name and was just silently guarding a few hundred remaining human people.

After surviving the massive zombie horde that wiped out the northern base, they gathered here to rebuild their homes, only to face another near-annihilation crisis a few months ago.

Their base was built on the foundation of a small city, with a wall surrounding it to protect them from monsters and zombies. But even so, the number of zombies they encountered was too great. They couldn't kill them all, nor could they break through. Time passed slowly, and the shadow of despair once again loomed over everyone's hearts.

Although they sent out a small team to ask for reinforcements, they didn't have much hope until... someone actually came to their rescue!

Those were several squads that were fully armed, clearly from a large base. They killed zombies like cutting melons and vegetables, and quickly rescued them from their predicament.

But... they soon realized something was wrong, because these people were demanding that they all leave and head to their base.

While joining a larger and more powerful base would be a good thing for most people, some were reluctant. However, they forcibly took everyone away without explanation, which made everyone uneasy.

Following the footsteps of those special combat teams to their base, the huge characters "Dongfang" (Eastern) stood on the base gate, and they couldn't help but be shocked. This was actually the famous Dongfang Base!

The scene then shifts to Ye Nianzhen and his group, where they see the ruins of a base that resemble a dead city.

"What...what's going on?!"

The people in the leading team immediately looked at David. They had considered that the situation might be very bad, that there might be a mess everywhere, and that the zombies might still be there. But they never imagined that there would be no trace of living people left here, not even bones or clothes.

Ye Nianzhen surveyed the surroundings and concluded: "There are many zombie corpses outside, but there are no signs of fighting in the city, nor are there many signs of disorder or hasty evacuation. They were most likely taken away."

Upon hearing this, the team leader leading the way became extremely anxious: "Taken away? Taken away by what? Are they still alive?"

"Zombies have no intelligence. Although some high-level magical beasts may evolve intelligence, considering that they would not only take away their prey instead of slaughtering them first, I suspect that humans took them away."

After analyzing the situation, Ye Nianzhen sent Mingyuan, Qin Qiu, and the others out separately to search for traces. Sure enough, they soon discovered traces of a brief human encampment in the forest to the southeast.

"The east side..."

Ye Nianzhen pondered for a moment, then reassured the team leader, "Don't rush. Let's look in the direction of the clues first. Since humans took them away, they must have some purpose. At least they wouldn't have killed them."

"Okay, whatever you say."

The squad leader was now at a loss and could only place all his hopes on Ye Nianzhen and his team.

They first went to the forest, where they rested for one night because they hadn't rested in a long time. The next day, they continued their search in the direction of the clues.

After walking for about ten days, they found more and more traces of human activity around them, which further confirmed Ye Nianzhen's guess, because she knew that the former Eastern Base should be located not far away.

After another day of walking, they ran into a group of scouts in a forest. The scouts were wary of the unfamiliar group, but the difference in strength was too great, and they were easily captured by Ye Nianzhen and the others.

Ye Nianzhen tried to get some information about the survivors out of them.

"Are you from the Eastern Base?" she asked the captain leading the reconnaissance team.

The team leader remained silent, glaring angrily at Ye Nianzhen: "Hmph!"

Ye Nianzhen chuckled in exasperation: "Didn't you send people to support a small base in the southwest that was besieged by zombies before?"

A look of surprise flashed across the leader's eyes, but he still showed no intention of cooperating with the questioning.

Ye Nianzhen tried her best to appear sincere and friendly, because if she failed to get the information out of them, her hot-blooded beastmen, who were not exactly kind, might take some extreme measures.

She said, "We meant no harm, but there are people we know at that base, and we are very worried about their safety."

"Why were we arrested if there was no malicious intent? Bullshit!"

The team leader said angrily, speaking with great force, and almost spat Tu Xingzi onto Ye Nianzhen's face.

Ye Nianzhen: "..."

She wasn't without temper either, and immediately became a little annoyed. Seeing her bad expression, Qin Qiu picked up the person on the ground by the neck and said, "Kill one and see if they listen to you."

Ye Nianzhen immediately stopped being angry. Instead, she was a little speechless and a little happy: "Let it go. We're not the villains."

Qin Qiu still hadn't let him go. She tilted her head and suggested again, "Even losing one hand would be fine."

For the first time, the team members were unusually united, and no one objected to Qin Qiu's suggestion. Hong Xiao even handed over a knife, disagreeing, "Even if you don't kill him, you should still cut him off. What's the deterrent effect of cutting him off? He'll just grow back."

Mu Guang nodded in agreement: "That's right, that's right. If you ask me, it would be better to cut between the legs!"

Gu Shibing said coldly, "Don't dirty everyone's hands."
