Chapter Forty-Four: The Leader

Ye Nianzhen glanced outside again and saw Luo Shui childishly trying to snatch the meat strips from Aji's bag.

Lei Lang swiftly stepped forward and delivered a heavy flick to his forehead.

His eyes immediately welled up with tears, and he gave Ye Nianzhen a accusing look.

Ye Nianzhen couldn't agree with this. What did they know about the fundamentals?

It was too profound for them.

Seeing that Ye Nianzhen did not reply, the man turned his head, as if he wanted to say something.

A small figure rushed out from the inner room, put her hands on her hips, and stopped his long-winded speech.

"Father! Stop with the nonsense, this lady must have something important to discuss!"

"Ah." The middle-aged man put down his thermos with regret and muttered a complaint in his voice, "Xiao Hui, why do you always undermine your father?"

The petite girl, called Xiao Hui, wasn't buying it at all: "Father, that's just nonsense."

"Alright, alright." The middle-aged man couldn't persuade the girl otherwise, so he turned to Ye Nianzhen and said, "Young man, what's on your mind? Speak up."

Ye Nianzhen looked directly at the other person and got straight to the point: "The riverbed a dozen miles south of the base is now littered with the remains of zombies."

The middle-aged man finally became serious: "What did you say?"

Ye Nianzhen emphasized: "There are tens of thousands of them. The river water in that area was contaminated by corpse poison, and all living things died out."

If it weren't for the well-developed water purification system at the northern base, the people in the city would probably have suffered the same fate.

The middle-aged man's face darkened: "Are you telling the truth?"

Yeh Nien-jen: "You can send someone to investigate, but you must do it secretly and only send the person you trust most."

The middle-aged man understood the implication in her words: "You mean... the person who planned this is in our city?"

Yeh Nien-jen: "Most likely."

The middle-aged man pondered for a moment, then looked puzzled: "Hiding zombie corpses in the river just to poison our residents?"

Ye Nianzhen shook her head: "Of course not. The scale of the zombies is enough to form a zombie horde. They want to create chaos and take the opportunity to achieve some kind of goal."

Middle-aged man: "Were zombies originally alive?"

"That's right."

"That……"

"We killed them."

"……all?"

"all."
