Chapter Ninety-Three: Desolate Smoke 3

The person who questioned her was stunned when she asked the question. She continued, "What evidence do you have to prove that I am the so-called Holy Maiden of the Beast Clan that you claim? Since you can't explain the source of your information, how can you expect others to believe what you say?"

The man was even more stunned, stammering but unable to utter a coherent sentence. Ye Nianzhen laughed, "When you villains are looking for people, can't you find some smart ones? Aren't you just offering yourselves up as food?"

Ye Nianzhen continued to question, "You can't give any evidence or source of information, yet you're just making baseless accusations. You're all in cahoots with those people from yesterday, deliberately coming here to cause trouble for us. Have you forgotten what the guards said yesterday—that you weren't allowed to cause any more trouble? I'll go and call the guards to arrest you right now!"

As Ye Nianzhen spoke, she walked towards the small pavilion where the guards rested by the side of the street. The men panicked and couldn't think of a way to fight back. They looked left and right, and finally tucked their tails between their legs and ran away!

Seeing this, Ye Nianzhen stopped walking towards the guards. She looked in the direction the group of people had fled and instinctively felt that the people behind them were after her. So she gave Qin Qiu a wink, and Qin Qiu immediately understood. He jumped onto the roof and followed the group of people.

This kind of intelligence gathering work is usually carried out by Mu Guang, whose beast form is a little white weasel. Even when they were still human ability users, Mu Guang's ability is in the light aspect, and he can become an all-pervasive light, which is also very suitable for intelligence gathering.

However, Mu Guang was taken away during the battle with the giant. Although Ye Nianzhen couldn't say she missed him that much, she couldn't help but think of him at times like this, wondering how he was doing.

Qin Qiu went to investigate the background of those people, hoping to rescue the person behind them. Ye Nianzhen and the others continued to stroll around the desolate smoke base as usual, looking for any fresh food to buy and share with Qin Qiu later.

Meanwhile, Mu Guang, whom Ye Nianzhen remembered, was contemplating life atop an elephant.

He was wondering why he couldn't see things clearly and insisted on going to that tribe to find some kind of holy woman.

If he was looking for the Holy Maiden, why did he have to be so foolish as to take out a knife and cut off her hair?

Of course, cutting off the saintess's hair was to prove that he had really seen the saintess, so that he could show off in front of those ignorant and brainless beastmen and swindle some money from them.

However, because he pulled out a knife in front of Ye Nianzhen, he was captured by Ye Nianzhen's brain-dead followers.

Now that he's been caught, it's like being trapped in an underwater prison with no way out, or in a deep, inescapable pyramid scheme; there's no way for him to escape.

Of course, his own curiosity about the saintess was the last straw that broke the camel's back. Now, he hadn't figured out the saintess's background and had been tricked onto the elephant's back, unable to get off.

Actually, he could get down if he wanted to, but should he see where the elephant had brought him?

This place, this godforsaken place!

These are often super high-level monsters, level 5 or higher!

The land is inhabited by terrifying giant monsters, and even the plants are mutated plants of level 5 or higher!

If the elephant he was riding hadn't been a level 5 or higher elephant, and hadn't been so enormous, he wouldn't know how many times it would have been devoured by these creatures!

So he can only stay on the elephant's back; if he doesn't stay here, he can stay in the stomach of a super-advanced mutated plant or animal.

The elephant's back is not a good place; it's exposed to the wind and sun, and occasionally mutated insects several times larger than him fly over to suck the elephant's blood. To protect himself, he can only help the elephant kill these mutated insects again and again.

The elephant seemed to think he was a good symbiotic partner, and would occasionally share a small piece of its prey with him, placing it on its own head with its long trunk so that the spurs on his head could have something to eat.

Mu Guang: Thank you, but I'd rather not.

These mutated plants and animals are too ugly and disgusting; he doesn't want to try any of them!

As a result, he became very hungry.

Fortunately, although this mutated elephant also eats meat, it sometimes misses its pre-mutation era and eats fruit and the like.

Among these fruits, there are occasionally a few with a lower mutation level, where the original form can still be seen, and Mu Guang reluctantly eats a few.

Another day passed, and the elephant led him deeper and deeper into the land, until they finally arrived at a place where the sun could not be seen at all.

The scenery here is incredibly beautiful, possessing a beauty that transcends the mundane world. Glowing plants dance slowly in the air, becoming the sole source of light. Mu Guang can sense a very pure energy flowing into his body.

He quickly realized that this was the source of energy that enabled them, the beastmen, to transform from animals into intelligent beings, capable of freely switching between human and animal forms.

It should also be the source of energy that awakens supernatural abilities in humans.

There is no danger here at all, because all the creatures that come here are incredibly quiet, like devout pilgrims.

The elephant lowered its body, slowly knelt on the ground, and quickly fell into a peaceful sleep.

Mu Guang slid off his nose, and his feet touched the ground a few days later. The ground was covered with thick, soft moss and ferns, and many colorful little flowers grew out of the gaps, but of course, the most numerous were white flowers.

Mu Guang walked on the ground. The huge mutated animals around him were either sleeping peacefully or resting with their eyes closed. Occasionally, a few would open their eyelids to glance at him, but they didn't react at all, unlike their aggressive behavior outside.

He took a few steps, and then a mysterious force guided him to a place. He went there and saw a valley full of glowing little flowers.

He was stunned.

He recalled Ye Nianzhen and the others talking about these glowing flowers, which could make people see illusions or dream, but it seemed to be more than that, because those who had come into contact with these flowers all looked embarrassed, as if there was some hidden story.

Mu Guang pursed his lips. He didn't like being forced to watch any illusions. He instinctively hated this feeling, but then he remembered that Ye Nianzhen seemed to be very attached to this little flower. It seemed that she had a friend who needed the power of this little flower to be awakened.

He didn't plan to pick them himself, but he could find those suckers to pick them after he went out, since they were eager to perform well in front of Ye Nianzhen in order to gain the favor of the Beast Clan Saintess.

So he turned around and walked back, only to find to his surprise that the road behind him had disappeared.
