Chapter Three: The Red Team

That night, the guards brought in a cart.

When they went out, the cart was piled high with corpses.

The scoundrels were pinned down and quietly carried away.

Mingyuan watched them go a few steps before reluctantly turning his gaze away and falling back into a deep sleep.

Ye Nianzhen returned to her tent early and, under the dim yellow light of a kerosene lamp, began to write and draw something.

Xiaochun leaned against her leg, looking at her curiously.

She saw that her older sister's sketchbook was filled with strange and unusual drawings.

There was an iron rod, a dagger, and a bundle of hemp rope.

These things are all drawn so vividly that they seem to jump out of the paper at any moment.

The older sister flipped through the pages too quickly; there was one page she hadn't seen clearly yet. It looked like some kind of dark animal.

It might depict those mutated animals outside—some of the more powerful ones are even called monsters.

The older sister is so capable, she must have been outside before.

Xiaochun secretly resolved to become stronger so she could help her older sister.

"Sister Ye, what are you drawing now?" Xiaochun couldn't help but ask.

"Huh?" Ye Nianzhen's train of thought was interrupted, and she paused for a moment before saying, "This... is used to deal with Fire Boy."

Xiaochun: "...Huowa?"

Shh, keep it a secret for your sister.

Ye Nianzhen gave the child some mysterious instructions and showed her the painting in her hand.

A cylindrical metal can appears on the paper, with a flexible tube attached to its head and a nozzle at the end of the tube.

It is a fire extinguisher.

Xiaochun is twelve years old this year. The apocalyptic disaster happened when she was nine years old. Perhaps due to the excessive impact, she lost her memories before that time.

Therefore, she did not recognize this thing, which was very common in human society.

She tilted her head, looking puzzled.

Yeh Nien-jen stopped explaining and continued drawing a series of fire-fighting items in his sketchbook.

The night passed quickly.

The next morning, the base was unusually noisy, as the first exploration team had returned.

The man leading the group was tall, with a bright red highlight on his short, spiky hair.

The residents of the base held men in great awe, observing the procession from a distance of several steps.

A middle-aged man exclaimed, "As expected of the Red Team, not a single person with superpowers is missing from the group that came back this time."

“That’s right!” another person chimed in. “I told you the Red Team has the strongest superhumans in the base, and some people still disagreed!”

The person next to him, who seemed to be the one who was "unconvinced," muttered under his breath, "The superhuman is still alive, but there are only a few ordinary people left in the team!"

"What are you saying!" The words were still heard, and the protesters were immediately pushed around.

That person wasn't a spineless coward either, and immediately pushed him back hard.

The commotion was noticed by the exploration team.

The tall man from the Red Team swept his sharp eyes over this side, and the noisy crowd felt a chill run down their spines and fell silent.

Ye Nianzhen stood at the back of the crowd, quietly watching everything.

After the apocalypse, because people with superpowers are physically stronger and better able to adapt to harsh environments, the concept of respecting people with superpowers gradually emerged.

Some ordinary people are willing to be oppressed and enslaved by those with superpowers, just to gain their protection.

On the other hand, some people resent and fear those with superpowers, believing that they are similar to the monsters outside.

Ye Nianzhen maintained a neutral stance on this matter.

Human nature is a duality of yin and yang, encompassing both the evil that uses power to commit wrongdoing and the good that strives to protect others at the cost of one's own life.

Whether a person with superpowers is a monster depends solely on that person.

At this moment, someone stepped forward and reported something to the red team.

Ye Nianzhen recognized the man; he was in charge of personnel management at the base and was a relative of the short, thin man in the rogue's den.

The short, thin man was not among the group that ambushed Ye Nianzhen yesterday, which saved him from disaster.

He waited in the tent for his brothers to bring Ye Nianzhen back for their pleasure, and waited all night.

He was cursing those guys in the morning, but after searching the entire base, he couldn't find them.

He suddenly realized something might be wrong.

Remembering Ye Nianzhen's murderous aura during the day, he dared not confront her.

Just then, the exploration team returned, and he quickly sought help from his relatives in the management department.

Perhaps it was because Ye Nianzhen's gaze was too cold, but after listening to the report, the red team turned around and locked onto her in the crowd.

Two pairs of gazes, one cold and one warm, collided in the air.

Ye Nianzhen turned around and prepared to leave.

What's meant to come will come, but not here.

But the red team called out to her loudly, "Stop!"

"I remember you're from the loot sorting department. If you don't work properly, where do you think you're going?"

The crowd parted to create a path, exposing Ye Nianzhen to the red team's view.

Ye Nianzhen was forced to walk the red carpet, which was the focus of everyone's attention, step by step to the center of the open space.

She completely ignored the Red Team's interested gaze and walked straight to the supplies piled on the ground.

It seems they were very lucky this time; they must have found a supermarket and hunted down several edible mutant animals.

She began to skillfully dissect the animals, skinning them, removing their internal organs, and dissecting their limbs.

She hadn't had time to groom herself, and her hands were covered in blood, so she looked completely unattractive.

The red team, perhaps due to some peculiar quirk, actually grabbed Ye Nianzhen's wrist.

The searing heat, like a branding iron, instantly ignited the nerves in Ye Nianzhen's brain, screaming for her to quickly shake off that damned big hand.
