Chapter Twelve: Rebirth

The next day, the sky remained overcast.

The air pressure was so low that the team members couldn't breathe.

Along the way, a man-eating flower secretly extended its tentacles and swept away the two people at the back of the group before they were discovered.

The red team burned the demon flower along its tentacles. The giant man-eating flower, as tall as two people, struggled and let out a shrill, unpleasant cry.

But the monsters in the jungle, seeking advantage and avoiding harm, have become much more docile as a result.

They had almost reached the middle of the jungle, where the danger became more hidden and deadly, and everyone was on edge.

Suddenly, chaos erupted at the head of the group, and Ye Nianzhen and the others went forward to investigate.

Half of the car that was leading the way was already stuck in the swamp.

The people sitting on top quickly transferred the supplies, and just as the vehicle was about to sink completely, they leaped into the mud.

Unfortunately, it was still caught by the swamp, and half of its body disappeared.

The others had already escaped and tried to pull him away, but were stopped by the red team.

"it's useless."

"This is a living swamp."

The rescuer was puzzled but still wanted to pull the person out. However, the next sentence from the red team sent chills down his spine.

"Even if you pull it out, it's only half there, it won't survive."

The man was so terrified that he lost all strength, and the swamp completely swallowed up the prey and the vehicle.

The animal writhed a few times in the mud, as if digesting its food, before slowly moving away.

The ground then returned to normal, and you no longer sink when you step on it.

The squad continues its advance; current casualties: three.

On the third day, the team finally reached the depths of the jungle.

The reconnaissance team returned and reported that they had located the lairs of several high-level monsters.

The red team arranged for people to set traps, planning to ambush the monsters when they returned to their lair.

The team was divided into three groups.

The red team led one group, the two vice-captains led another group, and Ye Nianzhen and her team led a third group.

To Ye Nianzhen's surprise, the Red Team did not tamper with the personnel arrangements; the strength of each team was balanced and the allocation was reasonable.

The logistics team was left in a safe place, while the three groups of people hid outside the three nests respectively.

Ye Nianzhen and the other two, wrapped in familiar large leaves, lay quietly in the grass.

The red team's smug faces are still vivid in my mind: "If you die, I'll laugh out loud."

Yeh Nian-zhen: "Hehe, likewise."

A slight tremor came from the ground; the master of the nest—a large lizard resembling a Triceratops—had returned.

Its sharp, cold pupils darted around in their sockets, and its forked tongue occasionally peeked out.

It sensed a different smell in the air than usual.

Ye Nianzhen sensed something was wrong and shouted in a low voice, "Attack!"

The team pulled the trap, and several large nets covered the lizard. Then, a boulder fell from the sky, attempting to smash its skull.

Unfortunately, the lizard easily returned the stone by nudging it with the triangular bony plate on its head.

The superhuman who launched the attack was almost hit by the rock, but Ye Nianzhen pulled him back with her whip.

"Don't be reckless."

She bowed her head and instructed the people on the ground, then gave the order to the trap team: "Attack the gaps in its armor!"

Those men then picked up long spears and plunged them into the flesh beneath the lizard's carapace.

The lizard roared angrily, its body swaying from side to side, sending the attacker flying along with his spear.

When one person fell to the ground, he almost fell into a spike trap he had dug himself.

Luoshui cast a curtain of water, like a gentle cradle, lifting people up and transferring them to flat ground.

The man came to his senses and looked up, only to see the lizard enveloped in a huge water sphere, struggling helplessly.

The water sphere was still slowly freezing, and it was frozen solid before the lizard drowned.

This superhuman subdued a level-three magical beast single-handedly.

Luo Shui winked smugly at Ye Nianzhen: "See? I didn't bluff you, did I?"

Ye Nianzhen chimed in, "Amazing!"

*

But what happened next stumped the team members: how were they going to get the monster out of the ice?

The meat of this mutated lizard doesn't taste good, but its shell can be used to make weapons, and most importantly, the magic crystals haven't been obtained yet.

The person whose life had been saved by the Luo River mustered up the courage to voice his confusion.

Luo Shui didn't seem to care: "Won't it just dissolve?"

"How can we wait that long..." The team members looked troubled.

Such a large block of ice won't melt until at least tonight.

At that time, this place where high-level monsters reside will only become more dangerous.

"How about we ask your red team to come and grill it?" Luo Shui suggested, despite the bad idea.

Ye Nianzhen shook her head helplessly and was about to step forward when Mingyuan gently asked her, "Can I try?"

Ye Nianzhen was slightly surprised, but quickly nodded and said, "Of course."

So Mingyuan walked to the ice in front of everyone's eyes.

He pulled out the unremarkable little knife from his pocket.

The team members did not have high expectations for this.

Mingyuan, who was in Ye Nianzhen's team, did nothing but cook and manage luggage, looking like a kept man.

I heard that he had been lying in the "dead man's bag" for five whole days without waking up, and the fever had made him stupid.

Normally, people will awaken their superpowers within three days of a high fever; otherwise, they will die.

This person somehow managed to survive, but it seems he hasn't awakened any powerful superpowers.

After Mingyuan awakened, his five senses became extremely sharp.

He could feel the disdainful and questioning gazes.

He knew what they were thinking without even listening to their whispers.

He had heard those words countless times in the base.

"It's the third year of the apocalypse and I still haven't awakened any superpowers... I guess I'm destined to be an ordinary person."

"He's not exactly useful among ordinary people either, look at his skinny arms and legs."

"He's just pretty, so he could try to hook up with some powerful female superhumans and maybe make a living that way!"

"Ha ha ha ha!"

Mingyuan felt that he had actually died once.

He is now a different person, pulled back from the edge of a cliff and reborn.

Since that's the case, we should live a different kind of life.

After all, she was watching.

He clasped his hands together and raised the dagger high.

He was so fast that bystanders didn't even see him clearly; they only heard a crisp sound.

The dagger pierced deep into the ice, and a crack spread rapidly from both ends of the break, finally intersecting at a single point.

In that instant, the ice puck shattered, and the monster's corpse fell to the ground, raising a cloud of dust.

Mingyuan turned around and saw Ye Nianzhen giving him a thumbs-up, which he had expected, from behind the stunned team members.

"You're pretty impressive too."

Then he gave a sincere and peaceful smile.

A ray of sunlight pierced through the dark clouds, making his hair shine.

The light then seeped into his light flaxen eyes, as if it could dispel all the darkness within them.

*

Ye Nianzhen took a purple crystal core from the monster's brain and put it in his pocket.

The others dismantled the monster, piling up the useful parts to wait for them to rejoin the main force before loading them onto the truck.

The anomaly occurred at this moment.
