Chapter 13: Inviting a wolf into the house – a wicked idea.
Something in my head made a "ding" sound.
The world seemed to stand still at that moment.
Jiang Chuyu thought she had misheard. It took her a long time to react before she turned her head and looked into a pair of deep, dark eyes.
The distance between them suddenly closed with her movement, their breaths mingling. To an onlooker, it looked like an awkward kiss.
This was a grand invasion and siege.
Every cell in Jiang Chuyu's body was restless with excitement.
Those cool, aloof brows and sculpted features were magnified so clearly before her, it seemed that if she were just a little braver, she could kiss him directly…
However, the excitement only lasted for a short time before Jiang Chuyu quickly regained her senses.
He reached into his bag and rummaged around for a few moments before stopping.
Gu Zeming: "Hmm?"
Jiang Chuyu sighed, "I didn't take it either."
Gu Zeming: "..."
Caiyan exclaimed "Oh dear!" and almost died laughing.
"Hey you two, who's the one who led whom astray? Neither of you brought your books, so what are you going to read in class?"
Li Sen, who was standing nearby, suggested: "You can download a textbook on your phone, or take a picture of a classmate's book and make do with it for now."
When it really matters, my senior brother is definitely the most reliable.
Jiang Chuyu smiled and said, "Good idea, I'll listen to my senior brother."
Finally, Caiyan contributed her own teaching materials.
Jiang Chuyu took a few photos, and the more she thought about it, the more unbelievable it seemed. It was one thing for her to be lazy, but how could Gu Zeming forget to bring his books? The school heartthrob was far too relaxed!
Jiang Chuyu silently complained in her heart.
At 7:20, the teacher entered the classroom and began the lesson.
Jiang Chuyu listened for more than ten minutes, then drowsiness crept in, and her eyelids began to droop. But with Li Sen by her side, she could only force herself to stay awake.
To be honest, she actually admired Li Sen quite a bit. He listened so attentively in class and even highlighted the important points for her, making her feel a little embarrassed if she wanted to sleep.
Li Sen silently observed Jiang Chuyu. Her head was down, her eyelids drooping, like a cat struggling with sleepiness, ready to collapse at any moment.
He smiled and said, "If you're sleepy, you can take a nap. I'll keep watch for you."
"ah?"
Did she hear that right?
A disciplined, high-achieving student was actually asked to keep watch for her?
Unbelievable!
Jiang Chuyu turned her head to look at Li Sen.
As soon as their eyes met, he said, "You can be yourself in front of me; you don't have to submit to me."
Jiang Chuyu was stunned, feeling a tiny bit touched for some reason.
At that moment, Liang Shu's voice came from the side and behind.
"Holy crap, this isn't a recruitment drive, it's an insult!"
"Dude, you're not being targeted by some weirdo, are you?"
"People these days are so damn dark-hearted!"
? ? ?
Stop cursing, stop cursing.
Jiang Chuyu's back stiffened, as if someone had been stabbing her in the back and giving her a lecture, instantly bringing her to her senses.
Li Sen noticed that her face was a little pale and frowned slightly: "What's wrong?"
"It's nothing, it's just a little hot."
Jiang Chuyu nervously wiped away her sweat, constantly keeping an eye on what was happening behind her.
She also wanted to be herself, but if her "abnormal" side were exposed to Li Sen and reached Jiang Shan, everything she had now would vanish.
Although Jiang Shan doesn't openly interfere in her daughter's life, she has basic expectations and standards for her child: a prestigious university education, mental health, good manners, moral integrity, and not doing anything to embarrass her.
She is now Jiang Shan's daughter.
Before she has saved enough money, she cannot reveal anything to Jiang Shan, otherwise she will be completely abandoned.
She didn't even dare to tell Jiang Shan that she had a mental illness.
Jiang Chuyu bit her lip, her thoughts in disarray.
She always felt that there was a pair of eyes watching her from behind, and that they were from Gu Zeming.
Even though she couldn't see his expression, she could feel his oppressive aura.
The skin on my ears and the back of my neck, exposed to the air, felt as if his gaze and breath had burned through them, leaving a tingling, numb sensation.
Where she couldn't see.
Gu Zeming finally looked away, his index finger slid across the phone screen, and his lips tightened.
This wasn't the first time he'd received harassing messages, but this was the first time they'd been so direct and audacious.
Jiang Chuyu hadn't heard him speak, so she held her breath and focused.
Just then, she heard Liang Shu chuckle softly and ask in a low voice, "Dude, would you apply for the job?"
Jiang Chuyu's heart, already in turmoil, grew increasingly anxious.
After a while, Gu Zeming's voice rang out.
"It depends."
"..."
Because of that ambiguous statement, Jiang Chuyu was absent-minded throughout the class and had no interest in interacting with Li Sen.
When the bell rang, Gu Zeming and Liang Shu left together.
She packed her things and asked Li Sen with a smile, "Is Sunday okay?"
Li Sen asked in confusion, "What?"
Jiang Chuyu: "Let's go see 'Love Letter' together."
Li Sen's furrowed brows relaxed, and a hint of a smile appeared in his eyes. "Of course."
After saying goodbye to Li Sen and returning to her dormitory, Jiang Chuyu immediately opened her email to check the status of her messages.
As expected, it showed as read.
Jiang Chuyu lay exhausted on the bed, staring at the ceiling.
Tonight was extremely dangerous; she almost got exposed.
She admitted that she coveted Gu Zeming's body, but also wanted to follow her mother Jiang Shan's wishes and marry a gentle and refined man who was her equal.
She is such a despicable person.
We want both.
Incredibly greedy.
She had seen how poverty could destroy a person, and she couldn't afford to gamble with it.
This is the last time.
If Gu Zeming doesn't come for the job interview on Saturday, then she'll give up, let him go, and let herself go too.
If he comes, well, besides enjoying the view and fantasizing in her mind, there doesn't seem to be much she can do... Gu Zeming doesn't want to, and she can't force him to come.
After facing reality, Jiang Chuyu calmed down considerably.
On Saturday, after washing up, Jiang Chuyu took a taxi to NOVA International Apartment.
Jiang Shan had to go on a business trip unexpectedly, so she dropped Jiang Lekai off at her apartment, gave her some careful instructions, and then drove away.
The young master sat on the sofa with his arms crossed, his face cold and silent.
Jiang Chuyu guessed that he was still angry about what happened on his birthday, so she didn't bother him. She filled two paper cups with cold water, put one on the table, and drank the other herself.
Jiang Lekai glanced at the cup and said with disdain, "I don't drink plain water."
Jiang Chuyu: "That's for the interviewees."
Jiang Lekai: "..."
Jiang Chuyu glanced at the time; it was a little past 9:50, a few minutes before the interview started. She walked to the floor-to-ceiling window and looked down.
The morning was sunny and hot. Several cars were parked in front of the gate, and occasionally someone would walk by with an umbrella, but none of them were Gu Zeming.
Didn't they come?
Jiang Chuyu withdrew her gaze and sighed in disappointment.
Seeing this, Jiang Lekai sneered, "With your level of expertise, what kind of good teachers can you recruit? Those who come will probably be at a similar level to you, not even as good as my sister."
Hearing this, Jiang Chuyu sat back down at the table, yawned, and said lazily, "A University is the minimum requirement for this recruitment. It's not impossible to get your sister, but let her go back to retake the exam and get into A University before applying."
"You..." Jiang Lekai was so angry that he couldn't speak.
Jiang Chuyu ignored him and glanced at the time out of the corner of her eye.
Once it was past ten o'clock, Jiang Chuyu figured that Gu Zeming wouldn't be coming, so she simply lay down on the table and took a nap.
After dozing off for a few minutes, I suddenly heard footsteps approaching from afar.
She lifted her head from her arms and, in a daze, saw a figure standing in the doorway.
A white shirt and jeans, a cool and aloof look, even the surrounding light seems to have a hazy, enchanting filter on it.
Jiang Chuyu rubbed her eyes slowly, and by the time her vision cleared, Gu Zeming had already walked to the table.
He had considered countless possibilities, but he never expected it to actually be her.
Did she send the same anonymous emails to other men besides him? And did she compliment their physiques and good looks in those emails?
Gu Zeming looked at the person in front of him with fair skin, almond-shaped eyes, and a sleepy expression, and laughed in anger.
"Jiang Chuyu." He looked down at her, his voice carrying a hint of coldness. "Or should I call you interviewer?"
Jiang Chuyu's pupils widened, all sleepiness gone.
After a period of chaos, she regained some of her composure as an interviewer.
"Senior."
"Um?"
"Could you please send me a copy of your resume? Thank you."
"..."
Perhaps it was her businesslike attitude that amused Gu Zeming, for he finally handed her his resume and pulled out a chair to sit down.
Jiang Chuyu held his resume and handed him a few forms and a pen with a blank expression.
"Please fill out your personal information first. Let me know when you're done, and we'll begin the interview."
She tried her best to appear calm and impartial, but her bright red ears betrayed her.
Gu Zeming narrowed his eyes slightly and took the paper and pen.
Jiang Chuyu placed a glass of cold water next to him and said to Jiang Lekai, who was sitting on the sofa, "Could you excuse yourself for a moment?"
Jiang Lekai looked completely bewildered. "I can't be present for my tutoring interview?"
Jiang Chuyu explained, "I'll finish my interview first, and if you pass, I'll let you two have a second interview."
Jiang Lekai was speechless for three seconds, then turned and left.
Jiang Chuyu closed the door slightly and sat down opposite Gu Zeming, drinking water while observing him.
I have to say, being the client is awesome.
Jiang Chuyu's gaze lingered on him.
He sat there, his long, slender fingers gripping a fountain pen, his eyes lowered, his pale lips pressed into a cold, stern line. Aloof and unapproachable, he possessed an innate air of distance, and when serious, his stillness was intimidating—that's probably the best description of him.
Jiang Chuyu was so engrossed in watching that she almost died of thirst.
"Senior," she couldn't help but call out to him.
Gu Zeming slightly lifted his eyelids.
Jiang Chuyu licked her lips: "If you don't know what to fill in, you can ask me."
Gu Zeming paused, pen in hand. "Finished."
So fast?
Jiang Chuyu took the form from him, glanced through it against the resume, and was immediately overwhelmed by the dazzling array of data and awards.
She knew Gu Zeming was outstanding, but to be this outstanding was truly outrageous.
How did this man manage to take such good care of himself while picking up trash?
Jiang Chuyu suddenly felt a pang of guilt.
He is the kind of genius that University A loves most. He has ideals, a sense of responsibility, style, and is arrogant yet sincere. He can live a brilliant and dazzling life anywhere.
Jiang Chuyu hesitated, unsure of what to do with it.
Gu Zeming has lived a clean and honest life; she really shouldn't have had any dirty desires for him.
In the future, we should restrain ourselves a bit and just let him be Jiang Lekai's tutor properly.
After thinking it through, Jiang Chuyu cleared her throat and said, "If you're ready, shall we begin the interview?"
Gu Zeming nodded: "Mm."
Jiang Chuyu was an interviewer for the first time, and all her experience came from the internet. Compared to her reserved demeanor, Gu Zeming seemed much more relaxed.
He has unique insights into both professional knowledge and teaching methods, and often gives opinions that make her exclaim "Wow!" Jiang Chuyu is extremely satisfied with this man.
Finally, she had him read a passage from a French text to test his oral communication skills.
This is a passage from Coco Chanel's Life Notebook:
I have never been a female hero.
But I chose to be the person I wanted to be.
And now I am exactly as I wished.
So what if I'm not loved or liked?
After reading it aloud in French, Gu Zeming remained silent for a moment, a slight ripple appearing in his calm, dark eyes.
Why choose this section?
"Because I like it."
Also, I want you to read it to me in person.
So, do I meet your hiring requirements?
“Ah, that…” He didn’t play by the rules at all, and Jiang Chuyu choked up awkwardly.
He had no intention of letting her off the hook. "Should I repeat the contents of the email?"
A note from the author:

I have never been a female hero.
But I chose to be the person I wanted to be.
And now I am exactly as I wished.
So what if I'm not loved or liked?
