Xu Cuihua quickly reached out and touched her nose, but there was nothing there.
She glared at Chen Jiayi, "Jiayi, you also have a piece of watermelon on your mouth."
Chen Jiayi chuckled and said, "I don't believe it!"
Xu Cuihua had never felt like she was eating fruit as a meal before. Her stomach was full as she stared at the clean watermelon.
Xu Cuihua said shyly, "Jiayi, how much is this watermelon? Shall I pay you?"
Chen Jiayi frowned slightly. "Sister-in-law, it's just a watermelon I'm offering you. Why are you making such a big deal out of it? You've been a widow for my brother all these years. Haven't you ever considered finding someone new?"
Chen Jiayi had tried to persuade Xu Cuihua before, but Xu Cuihua had a very good relationship with her older brother and was unwilling to leave, so Chen Jiayi couldn't do anything about it. Now that she has been reborn, Chen Jiayi doesn't want to see Xu Cuihua repeat the same fate.
Xu Cuihua chuckled, "I'm already this old, what am I supposed to find? But what about you? What did you say to Ding Haowen? I saw him being quite gentle with another woman today."
Xu Cuihua is one of the few people who know the true nature of Ding Haowen and Chen Jiayi's relationship.
Chen Jiayi shook her head and sighed softly.
"We have already registered our divorce application and are just waiting for approval from the authorities."
The problem is that the divorce application will take six months to process, and Chen Jiayi is worried that something might happen during that time.
Xu Cuihua looked worried and couldn't help but ask, "Jiayi, what are you planning to do after the divorce?"
Chen Jiayi smiled gently, her eyes crinkling. When she smiled, two small dimples appeared on her face.
She looked out the window, her tone firm.
"Fight fiercely against even the slightest selfish thought; keep pushing the cart until it falls over."
This is a metaphor emphasizing ideological transformation and perseverance.
Although Xu Cuihua didn't understand what these words meant, she smiled and supported Chen Jiayi.
Ding Haowen took Chen Xiaowei back to his home. He and Chen Jiayi used to sleep in separate rooms, but since Chen Jiayi wasn't home, he simply gave Chen Xiaowei Chen Jiayi's room to sleep in.
Chen Xiaowei lives in a mud house in the countryside, while the houses in the town are all brick and tile houses with cement floors.
The thought of staying in town for so many days and getting paid made him laugh out loud.
However, when Chen Xiaowei opened the door to the room, he found that there was nothing inside.
His face darkened. "Haowen, you're not going to let me stay here like this, are you?"
Ding Haowen then realized that Chen Jiayi had moved everything out of the room.
His eye twitched, and he felt a surge of anger.
"I have some new duvet covers, I'll go get them for you."
Ding Haowen himself hadn't even used this quilt cover; he had originally planned to send it to Li Yuzhu.
Chen Xiaowei was finally satisfied, but seeing the child crying, he impatiently yelled.
"What are you crying for? You're just as worthless as your mother."
Ding Haowen felt a little uncomfortable, but he was more anxious to coax Li Yuzhu.
He hurriedly handed the child to Chen Xiaowei and turned to leave quickly.
As soon as Li Shufang came out with her cane, she saw her son's hurried departure.
She called out, but Ding Haowen probably didn't hear her and didn't turn his head.
Li Shufang wondered to herself, "Where are they rushing off to?"
She looked up and saw her father-in-law standing in the courtyard, and she was quite pleased.
"Relative, you're here? Aren't you going to call Jiayi back?"
Li Shufang smiled, and Chen Xiaowei felt awkward for a moment.
"Grandma, what do you usually feed the child? She looks hungry, I'll go feed her something."
Li Shufang's lips twitched and her eyebrows jumped.
…
After seeing Xu Cuihua off, Chen Jiayi tidied up the room and then continued reading.
She was immersed in the ocean of knowledge, and before she knew it, it was getting dark.
She realized it was dark when the light dimmed.
Chen Jiayi's rented apartment didn't have electricity yet, so she lit a candle and cooked herself a dish and a soup.
After finishing her meal, Chen Jiayi continued reading by candlelight.
Chen Jiayi didn't know what time it was when she felt the urge to urinate, so she reluctantly put down her book and went outside to use the restroom.
The house doesn't have its own bathroom, so you have to use the toilet outside. The same goes for showering; there's a communal shower room, which you have to go to to shower.
When Chen Jiayi went to the toilet, she ran into her neighbor, an older woman next door, who asked her a question out of curiosity.
"Jiayi, it's already 11 o'clock, why aren't you asleep yet?"
Chen Jiayi was startled. "Oh no, it's 11 o'clock? I didn't even notice!"
The candles she bought were extra thick and large, and they burned very slowly.
Electricity is widely available in cities, but not in rural areas.
Chen Jiayi didn't have a watch and didn't know the time.
She thought about it and felt she needed to buy a clock to tell the time.
Chen Jiayi washed up and went to bed immediately after using the toilet, and almost couldn't get up at four in the morning.
Chen Jiayi looked at the sky and realized it was almost five o'clock, so she got up and got ready.
She couldn't help but sigh, "People really shouldn't stay up late!" She usually wakes up around 4 a.m., but she stayed up a little late last night and slept in a little longer this morning, almost unable to get out of bed.
Chen Jiayi's vegetables from yesterday weren't sold out, and they were a bit wilted today. She sprinkled some water on them, and they looked just like the fresh vegetables she received this morning.
Before long, the morning market began.
Soon, people gathered in small groups of two or three.
At the Ding family home, Li Shufang woke up early in the morning.
She had dark circles under her eyes and felt like she couldn't go on living like this!
Last night, Dingxiang had diarrhea and kept crying, which kept Li Shufang from sleeping at all.
Li Shufang, her face dark, planned to have a serious talk with her relative.
As soon as Li Shufang entered, leaning on her crutches, she saw Chen Xiaowei, who was shirtless.
