Chapter 49 Revitalizing Chinese Culture!

Wang Shulan realized she had said the wrong thing, and she gave an awkward chuckle.

“Many people don’t know about this. Anyway, you’ve already divorced them. I’ll tell you the details when I have time.”

Chen Jiayi hummed in agreement, "Okay, I'll hang up now!"

"good."

As soon as Wang Shulan stepped out of the phone booth, she saw two familiar figures walking past together.

An excited glint flashed in her eyes, and she quickly followed.

Li Yuzhu's face was rosy, but she was somewhat dissatisfied.

She would never have forgiven Ding Haowen if he hadn't taken her to buy him a gift!

In order to please Chen Jiayi, he actually embarrassed her in front of her.

Ding Haowen chuckled and pinched Li Yuzhu's nose.

"Okay, don't be angry anymore. Do you like the gold I just bought for you?"

Li Yuzhu blushed slightly, "I like it."

She was actually a little dissatisfied; she wanted a watch, but even the cheapest Nanjing Zhongshan brand watch started at 30 yuan.

Li Yuzhu could only console herself that although gold soil was a bit cheap, it only cost a few cents per gram, but at least it was still a commodity.

Ding Haowen offered to give her a gift to appease her, since she couldn't keep putting on airs forever.

A calculating glint flashed in Ding Haowen's eyes. He smiled and said, "Yuzhu, can you do me a favor?"

Li Yuzhu was overjoyed, and at this moment she would agree to whatever Ding Haowen said.

"What's up?"

"Please take care of my mom for two days. I'm going to the police station to see if there's any news about Dingxiang."

Ding Haowen was somewhat skeptical of Li Yuzhu, but he didn't say it outright.

His mother's medical report won't be out for another two days. He plans to go to the local police station tomorrow to report the case and see if there's any news.

Li Yuzhu's face suddenly turned pale. She forced a smile, but her heart was filled with panic.

"Haowen, how about I go with you?"

Ding Haowen frowned. "What about my mom if we go together?"

He sighed, his voice very low.

"The doctor said my mom might have brain cancer... What if it really is brain cancer?"

Li Yuzhu pursed her lips, "Haowen...actually, Dingxiang might not be found again."

Ding Haowen was shocked. "What do you mean?"

Li Yuzhu's tears came easily, she choked out.

"It's all my fault for not closing the door properly that day..."

Ding Haowen wasn't interested in coaxing her; he just wanted to know what Li Yuzhu meant by saying she couldn't find it again.

Li Yuzhu sobbed, “I went to the police station several times, and they told me that Dingxiang was very likely abducted by human traffickers. This group of traffickers is a gang, and they are very rampant.”

She shuddered as she thought of that bloody photo.

"That day, a photo fell out of Officer Zhao's files. The photo was extremely gruesome..."

She swallowed hard, and continued somewhat fearfully, "Although Officer Zhao didn't tell me that the person in the photo was Dingxiang, I know it was Dingxiang... Doesn't Dingxiang have a very noticeable red mole on her wrist?"

Ding Haowen initially didn't want to believe it, thinking that Li Yuzhu had misread it.

Upon hearing her question, Ding Haowen's expression suddenly changed.

"What did you say?"

Wang Shulan, hidden in the shadows, was shocked to hear such bombshell news!

Li Shufang may have brain cancer? Ding Xiang is suspected of being gone?

Oh my god.

She had heard that her child was missing some time ago, but she never expected that he would still not be found.

Seeing Ding Haowen and Li Yuzhu arguing, Wang Shulan excitedly hid in the shadows to watch the show.

Chen family

Chen Jiayi wore a beige shirt and a pair of black and blue jeans.

She wore a silk scarf around her neck and a pair of low-cut black fashion shoes.

When she came downstairs, Chen Qiming was already dressed in a Tang suit and sitting on the sofa waiting for her.

Chen Jiayi's eyes crinkled into a smile. "Dad, I'm all packed."

Chen Qiming nodded in satisfaction, "Jiayi looks beautiful today!"

Chen Jiayi smiled shyly and glanced at her mother who was slowly walking out.

"My mom put together this outfit for me! She has a great eye for fashion."

Lan Meixuan chuckled, "Alright, you two, stop bickering. Hurry up and go, the teachers are probably waiting for you."

Chen Jiayi felt a little flustered at the thought of going to school for the exam later.

Although she has been studying on her own during this time, what if she doesn't do well on the exam?

Although it was a private school, it still had basic academic requirements, which made Chen Jiayi nervous.

This was even more nerve-wracking than when she saw elderly people trying to cheat her at her vegetable stall.

Chen Qiming noticed Chen Jiayi's nervousness and took out his diary from his pocket.

"Jiayi, relax. It's okay if you don't pass the exam! You can look at Dad's diary, maybe it will help you relax."

Not only was Chen Jiayi nervous, but Chen Qiming was too.

He decided to bring his diary with him. If Jiayi didn't pass the exam, he would take out the diary and expose the good deeds that Principal Song had done, making him feel ashamed.

Chen Jiayi's lips twitched. Who comforts people like that? But she still took the diary.

I turned to the page that Dad had mentioned.

[On July 18, 1968, I arrived in a mountainous area that surprised me greatly! Ninety-eight percent of the population in this area were women; there wasn't a single adult man. The remaining two percent... consisted of a few children.]

Of these children, I found one boy to be the most mischievous and naughty.

While he was using the latrine, I threw a mud ball into it to ask him for directions. He was so startled that he fell into the latrine.
