Chapter 4 Apology
"Boss," Lin Wanyi hesitated. "Will this put Ningning in a difficult position? It's been three years, and everyone has forgotten about it. It's embarrassing to bring it up again."
Zhou Qingyan also snorted coldly, "I don't believe that an ungrateful, ungrateful person like her would honestly apologize!"
"Mom, only Ningning's apology can prove that she's recovered." Zhou Qingci's eyes flashed with ruthlessness, "Otherwise, send her back to the sanatorium and she'll never be able to leave."
"But...but..." Lin Wanyi stammered, "It's still embarrassing..."
Zhou Qingci thought Lin Wanyi was afraid that Wen Ning would be embarrassed, but Wen Ning knew that Lin Wanyi was afraid that she would be embarrassed.
During the three years in the sanatorium, she often recalled the year she returned to the Zhou family.
She thought over and over again about every person, every word, and every action.
She finally discovered that her relatives did not like her because of blood ties. Instead, they disliked her because she was a child bride and an orphan, and she was vulgar, useless and shameful.
After figuring it out, she felt a lot more relaxed.
From now on, she won't have to beg for even a little bit of charity.
"I'm not afraid of losing face. I promised, and I will do it."
Wen Ning's statement stopped Lin Wanyi from muttering.
She didn't look very good until she arrived at the banquet venue.
As the three of them arrived, the music stopped. The evening sunset was brilliant, and rose petals suddenly fell from the sky. The classic proposal song "Marry You" sounded on the big screen at the banquet, and photos of Zhou Yaya and Shen Xufeng from childhood to adulthood were projected on the screen one by one.
Shen Xufeng, wearing a white suit and holding a large bouquet of roses, walked towards Zhou Yaya.
The young men and women around took out their mobile phones to take pictures and started to moan.
The other elders also looked at the perfect couple with smiles on their faces.
Surrounded by love and romance, and witnessed by celebrities and wealthy people, the little princess of the Zhou family accepted her boyfriend's proposal.
The crowd began to cheer.
"Did you see that?" Zhou Qingci whispered in her ear, "Put away your little thoughts. You can't destroy their relationship. Wait a minute, and then go and apologize. Yaya will be happy."
Wen Ning nodded.
Those youthful pursuit scenes seem like they happened a lifetime ago.
The Zhou and Chen families had been engaged since childhood.
After she returned to the Zhou family, Zhou Yaya found her privately and said that the marriage was a marriage between the two families. Since she was the Zhou family's biological daughter, the marriage also belonged to her. Besides, she did not like Shen Xufeng, but had someone she loved.
At that time, Wen Ning had just turned seventeen, was young and ignorant, and was full of fantasies about love.
Chen Xufeng was handsome, cold and noble, and he entered her heart like a prince charming.
This was the boy in her previous life who was not even worthy of her imagination.
Since it didn't count as stealing Zhou Yaya's, she moved forward courageously, chasing after him like a moth to a flame.
It was raining heavily, and she tilted her umbrella to him regardless of being soaked.
At the outdoor summer camp, she was so hungry that her stomach was cramping, so she gave him the only two loaves of bread she had left.
When he broke his leg while playing basketball, she took care of him wholeheartedly for a month, tutoring him and massaging his leg muscles.
But unexpectedly, everything she did was seen by Shen Xufeng as the behavior of a mistress who destroyed the relationship between the couple.
Until that incident broke out——
Wen Ning bit her lower lip, the strong and pungent smell of blood filled her lips and teeth, bringing her back to her senses a little, and she no longer thought about the past.
The proposal ceremony ended, night fell, and another round of hot searches was triggered on the Internet.
Wen Ning was brought before Zhou Yaya.
"Sister! You're back!" Zhou Yaya cheered happily and wanted to rush up to hug her.
Wen Ning immediately tensed his back.
Fortunately, Shen Xufeng pulled Zhou Yaya back, looked at her with an ambiguous expression, his face tense, and called out her name word by word, "Wen Ning."
"Sister, I'm glad you're back. You don't have to apologize to me." Zhou Yaya hadn't turned off the microphone yet, so everyone could hear, "What happened back then was just a misunderstanding. You didn't mean to steal Brother Xufeng's away, right?"
"Yaya, you forgot to turn off the microphone." Lin Wanyi reminded.
"Oh my God...did everyone hear it?" Zhou Yaya was startled and quickly turned off the microphone as if she had realized it belatedly.
The crowd that had already started dancing stopped when they saw something exciting to watch.
"What are you doing?"
"Zhou Yaya has a sister? Isn't she the only daughter of the Zhou family?"
"Oh, isn't it the one from three years ago? Let me tell you..."
The crowd murmured and the band paused.
"No need to turn it off. Give her the microphone." Zhou Qingci crossed his arms and said to Zhou Yaya, "She said it herself. She wants everyone at the banquet to know that she was wrong."
Zhou Yaya shook her head, her eyes red: "Brother, this is not good..."
This sister is still too kind.
Zhou Qingci simply walked over, took the microphone and handed it to Wen Ning.
Wen Ning held the cold microphone in her hand, feeling the gossipy, inquiring gazes from all around her. It was as if she was back to that day three years ago when these same people had pushed and forced her to kneel down and apologize.
At that time, she was unwilling to give in and felt wronged, and would rather die than apologize, so she was treated as mentally ill and locked up in a sanatorium for "treatment" for three years.
now--
"Ever since I was taken back to the Zhou family, I've been having issues with Miss Zhou. Three years ago, Shen Xufeng was drugged, and I also took... illegal drugs. We almost got into a big trouble, all because of my jealousy and evil intentions."
"When my family accused me, I became overly emotional and threatened to commit suicide and call the police. My behavior frightened Ms. Zhou and her family. Over the past three years, every time I think about what happened that day, I feel extremely guilty."
"So today, I came here specifically to apologize to Miss Zhou."
The girl's hoarse and trembling voice was like a huge rock falling into a calm lake, causing a huge uproar.
After all, what happened three years ago involved the Zhou and Chen families. Many people knew that the Zhou family's "illegitimate daughter" drugged Mr. Shen in an attempt to make things a fait accompli, but they didn't know that there was also a conspiracy to call the police.
If Wen Ning is really willing to call the police to investigate the real culprit behind the drugging, doesn't that mean she's most likely innocent?!
After all, if she was the instigator, how could she dare to threaten death and call the police?
When Zhou Yaya heard the word "call the police", her face changed instantly, but she quickly adjusted herself and was the kind and warm-hearted sister again.
"Sister, stop talking. I've never blamed you. Okay, let's just leave it at that."
She leaned over to support Wen Ning and whispered in her ear.
"You are such a jerk. You only learn your lesson after being beaten."
"If you had confessed to these charges three years ago, wouldn't you have avoided suffering?"
Wen Ning clenched his fists, raised his eyes, and stared at her with his dark, clear pupils.
How she wanted to tell the truth about what happened three years ago at all costs and completely tear off Zhou Yaya's hypocritical and scheming mask.
From then on, she walked her own way, the sky was high and the road was long, and they would never meet again in this life!
But she knew better that if she really did that today, the Zhou family would only think that she was even sicker and would lock her up back in that hell of a nursing home.
Although she is an adult now, she is still too weak to shake the giant Zhou family.
So, Wen Ning let out a light breath and chuckled softly.
"If I had admitted my mistake three years ago, I wouldn't have been able to see your true colors."
