As soon as she finished speaking, Xia Zhizhi's face turned pale instantly.
Zheng Minghuai's face, however, was as dark as ink.
Xia Wan ignored them and pulled Cui Ziqi away.
Zheng Minghuai looked at the bodyguard beside him.
The bodyguard with the large bump on his head understood and immediately led the other bodyguards to stop the two.
"Who gave you permission to leave?"
Zheng Minghuai's extremely cold voice came from behind the two of them.
Xia Wan squeezed Cui Ziqi's hand tightly.
Cui Ziqi looked down at her. What was wrong with the dark circles under her eyes after just one night?
You look so haggard, were you bullied here?
Cui Ziqi's eyes held a hidden undercurrent that nearly shattered his carefully maintained composure.
He withdrew his gaze, lazily slipped the rest of his hand into his trench coat pocket, and turned to look at Zheng Minghuai.
"You've reminded me that I still have things to do."
The first thing Cui Ziqi said when he arrived instantly flashed through Xia Wan's mind.
Someone wants to kill you.
She quickly grabbed Cui Ziqi and asked in a low voice.
"Did Duan Shuangshuang order you to kill him?"
Cui Ziqi looked down at her, neither confirming nor denying.
His thin lips were slightly pursed, and the clear, sharp contours of his face appeared even colder and harder in the sunlight. His perfectly pieced-together features revealed not a trace of emotion, yet Xia Wan inexplicably felt a chill run down her spine.
You little pervert, are you unhappy?
The system remained silent, offering no further prompts.
Xia Wan opened her mouth, but the words of advice stuck in her throat wouldn't come out.
Cui Ziqi suddenly smiled, her face full of gentleness.
"You're reluctant to let me kill Zheng Minghuai?"
The gentle, soft voice was the first time Xia Wan had ever heard Cui Ziqi's voice in all the time she had known him.
Meeting those dark, abyss-like eyes, Xia Wan felt a chill run down her spine.
“I can’t bear to see you being instigated by that scoundrel Duan Shuangshuang and doing something criminal. You promised me you wouldn’t kill anyone.”
She gripped Cui Ziqi's hand tightly, her clear gaze sweeping over the bruises on his face, and her heart clenched painfully.
Under these circumstances, she didn't want to play the role of a saint.
However, the concept of harming others was not part of her upbringing.
What's even more frustrating is that Zheng Minghuai is the male protagonist of this world; if he dies, no one else can survive.
Cui Ziqi stared at Xia Wan for a long while, then suddenly smiled.
His deep black eyes revealed a terrifying look, while a bewitching smile appeared on one side of his face.
"Xia Wan, you really think too highly of yourself."
Who is she to him?
Does he have to listen to her now?
joke!
Xia Wan's heart, which had been hanging in suspense, finally died.
Before she could speak, Cui Ziqi suddenly turned around, grabbed the hand of the bodyguard holding the gun, and easily disarmed him, placing the gun in the man's large hand.
Instead of raising his gun, he swung it towards Zheng Minghuai.
Things happened too fast.
Everyone was afraid the gun would go off accidentally, so they quickly covered their heads and crouched down.
Xia Wan saw a dark shadow moving rapidly toward Zheng Minghuai.
As the gun slammed into Zheng Minghuai's head, Cui Ziqi held his silver spear firmly against Zheng Minghuai's temple.
"Brother Minghuai!"
"Ziqi".
Compared to Xia Zhizhi's panic, Xia Wan was much calmer.
His hands, hanging by his sides, were slightly clenched into fists. Sweat soaked his back, and the system's voice kept ringing in his mind.
[Host, the male lead is in danger! You must find a way to save this small world!]
[Host, male supporting character's corruption level detected... abnormally stable! Something's wrong, my data must be faulty again.]
[Host, if the male lead dies, all your previous efforts will have been in vain!]
...
Xia Wan found it very noisy.
She was very irritable.
His gaze was fixed intently on the spot where Cui Ziqi's slender index finger was pressed against the trigger.
But he didn't speak immediately.
Cui Ziqi's gaze swept across Xia Wan's face, indifferent, as if passing through thin air.
Despite being held hostage, Zheng Minghuai showed no sign of panic.
With Cui Ziqi gripping her neck, she couldn't turn her head to see what Cui Ziqi looked like behind her, and a mocking smile appeared on her lips.
"Cui Ziqi, do you dare to shoot?"
"My hands are stained with so much blood, one more won't make a difference."
Cui Ziqi's voice was chilling, and anyone who heard it couldn't help but shiver.
With a cold gun pressed against his vital point and a demonic voice whispering in his ear, even someone like Zheng Minghuai felt his blood freeze.
He was somewhat afraid.
"Young Master Cui, please don't hurt Brother Minghuai. I... I'll just consider it repayment for your life!"
Xia Zhizhi dared not approach and could only plead softly.
She was in a panic, desperately trying to reveal the truth of what happened back then in exchange for Cui Ziqi sparing Zheng Minghuai's life.
Before she could speak further, Cui Ziqi's icy voice came first.
"Let us out, or none of us will live."
The words were spoken to Zheng Minghuai.
Zheng Minghuai was surprised for a moment, but then realized that this was just Cui Ziqi's style.
He wasn't afraid of death, but he didn't expect to die so inexplicably.
Besides, even if Cui Ziqi got out, so what? Although he didn't know why the police station let Cui Ziqi go so easily, the matter at Sanmen Wharf involved the law, and this matter could not possibly be resolved peacefully.
Just let him out, it's fine.
He glanced at Xia Wan standing in the circle of bodyguards, his eyes narrowing.
"All of you, step back and let them out."
The bodyguards had wanted to leave for a while; Cui Ziqi was a madman who would really kill.
Cui Ziqi did not release Zheng Minghuai immediately. Instead, she took Zheng Minghuai to the gate of the Xia family and then kicked him away.
