Chapter 77: Came to Save Her?

Xia Wan quickly backed away, and only after realizing that Zheng Minghuai could not see her did she catch her breath from being frightened.

Does this person walk without making a sound?

The bodyguard quickly opened the door, and Zheng Minghuai strode into the study.

Xia Wan hesitated, her heart yearning for gossip stirring within her. Thinking she still had time, she followed them inside.

She sat calmly on the soft sofa in the study, watching the play with great interest.

Xia Zhizhi turned pale when she saw Zheng Minghuai.

His trembling pupils silently betrayed his guilty conscience.

How much of her conversation with Xia Huaidong was overheard?

“Brother Minghuai…”

She called out softly, her voice trembling slightly.

She wanted to explain, but couldn't refute the facts, so she could only bite her lip and lower her head, looking pitiful and resigned to her fate.

Zheng Minghuai was initially furious because he had been tricked, but seeing Xia Zhizhi's pitiful appearance, he couldn't bear to blame her.

His Zhizhi is innocent and harmless. If she wasn't forced, why would she scheme against him like this?

His icy gaze then shifted to Xia Huaidong.

Xia Huaidong initially looked away guiltily, but then he remembered that the matter had already occurred and the marriage between the two families was a foregone conclusion, so his guilt vanished.

He regained his normal expression and smiled at Zheng Minghuai.

"Minghuai, you've come at the right time. I was just about to ask you why you kept Xia Wan at home. Wouldn't it have been better to send her to be with Cui Ziqi?"

That way, when Cui Ziqi goes to jail, he only needs to add fuel to the fire, and this unfilial daughter will also go to jail.

Why not?

Zheng Minghuai looked at him with a deep gaze.

"What? After being your daughter for over twenty years, is my life worthless in your eyes?"

This sarcastic remark instantly changed Xia Huaidong's expression.

If anyone else had said that to him, he probably would have slapped them.

But the person in front of him was Zheng Minghuai, someone he couldn't control and couldn't easily offend. Even if he had a lot of dissatisfaction in his heart, he could only keep it to himself.

He forced a smile, his lips twitching slightly.

“Xia Wan had long ago declared that she wanted to sever ties with me. Now that she is no longer my daughter, her life and death are naturally none of my business.”

Xia Wan sat leisurely on the sofa. As for Xia Huaidong, who could say such things, she could only comment: He's got it!

Zheng Minghuai scoffed, his eyes and brows showing a hint of disdain.

"I understand. As long as your daughter is useless to you, her life, death, and innocence are none of your business."

After being repeatedly mocked, a slight hint of displeasure appeared on Xia Huaidong's face.

Xia Zhizhi stood there, her face filled with anxiety.

If Brother Minghuai were to abandon her because of this, her status in the Xia family and even the entire social circle would plummet.

She no longer wanted to endure the hurtful mockery and insults.

“Brother Minghuai…”

She murmured softly, wanting to explain but unsure how to begin.

In the end, he could only swallow his grief and anger through his tears.

No matter how much resentment Zheng Minghuai harbored, he couldn't vent it on Xia Zhizhi.

He sighed softly, stepped forward, took Xia Zhizhi's hand, and looked at her gently.

Xia Zhizhi met his affectionate gaze, and the anxiety in her heart subsided slightly.

Zheng Minghuai did not comfort her, but instead took her hand and silently looked at Xia Huaidong.

"Uncle Xia, please do not interfere in Xia Wan's affairs, otherwise you will bear the consequences."

He didn't linger in the study any longer, and took Xia Zhizhi's hand as they left the room.

Xia Wan leaned back on the sofa, watching the two figures leave, and nodded in approval.

The romance between the male and female leads develops smoothly.

If this trend continues, as Cui Ying and Yu Jia appear more often, their roles in the original work will become less significant.

They will gradually become marginalized.

She will be less bound by the original plot, which will make her much more free to pursue Cui Ziqi.

Xia Wan felt pleased. She glanced at Xia Huaidong, whose face was gloomy, raised an eyebrow, and walked out of the study.

The advantage of being invisible is that she can walk out of the Xia family villa without anyone stopping her.

When she arrived at the door, the system notified her that she had five minutes left before she could become visible.

She then leisurely walked along the road and left the Xia family's house.

My phone was confiscated, and I had no cash on me.

You can't get out of the villa area on just these two legs.

She wondered if she could hitch a ride.

Just then, a familiar Maybach drove up from the front.

Xia Wan looked up, and the sunlight quickly swept across the windshield, reflecting Cui Ziqi's sharp gaze from the driver's seat.

Cui Ziqi?

Was he there to rescue her?

Xia Wan was still in surprise when the Maybach stopped in front of the Xia family's gate.

Cui Ziqi got out of the car, his black trench coat arcing in the cold wind, his tall and slender figure exuding a powerful aura.

He strode forward alone, heading straight for the door.

Xia Wan saw his hand emerge from his trench coat pocket from afar; the silver spear gleamed and sharp in the sunlight.

With a 'bang' of a gunshot, the gate of the Xia family villa was flung open.

Xia Wan stared wide-eyed at Cui Ziqi's profile as he stepped into the room.

He stood there stunned for several seconds before catching up.

She didn't believe Cui Ziqi had come to save her.

Cui Ziqi started giving her the cold shoulder last night, and this morning she sent him a message saying she was going back to the Xia family.

Even if he had seen the message, he wouldn't have thought she was in danger at the Xia family's house, much less come over alone with a gun drawn.

Something must have happened!

The system did not notify Cui Ziqi of any fluctuations in his "darkening" value.
