Chapter 88. Chapter 88. How wonderful it is to have her as a companion on life's journey...
Tang Mingli and Madam Fu returned from their trip to Jiangnan in mid-September.
After being apart for ten days, Grandpa Fu seemed a little excited to see the two people who pushed open the door. He unconsciously got up and walked to the door to greet them.
"You're finally back."
Mrs. Fu looked exhausted, but she didn't miss her husband's words, "finally."
It's truly rare for him to talk like that, as if he really misses them, but that's clearly not his personality. In that particular era, when the time they were apart was measured in years, he never seemed to think about it.
Looking at her suspiciously, Madam Fu asked, "Has something happened?"
Grandpa Fu didn't hide anything and told him everything.
It turns out that during the time Tang Mingli and Madam Fu were on vacation, several groups of guests came to the house, all of them coming to inquire about what Fu Ci was doing.
Although Mr. Fu had been a leader for half his life, he really didn't know how to socialize.
For several days in a row, people came to his door, so he started hiding out during the day and only came back around dinner time.
Old Li got annoyed with him and later made an excuse that he wasn't feeling well and didn't come out, so he could only wander around aimlessly out of boredom.
At this point, he was already regretting it; he should have gone on the trip with his wife and the others.
I wanted to stay and chat with my old friends about the new national policies, but it turns out they only have a short attention span; after that, all they care about is playing chess. Later, because he kept me entertained from morning till night, I didn't even want to play chess anymore.
In short, things didn't go as Mr. Fu had imagined during the time Tang Mingli and Madam Fu were away.
After hearing what he said, Madam Fu couldn't stop laughing.
However, she was really too tired, otherwise she would have definitely shared with him how worthwhile their trip was, to deepen his regret.
-
Tang Mingli and Madam Fu rested for three days before they could finally recover.
That's how travel is. You don't feel tired while you're having fun, but when you stop to rest, you feel like you've been completely drained.
After she recovered, Madam Fu's belated boasting finally began. From the moment she opened her eyes, she told Grandpa Fu about what they had seen and heard on their trip, along with her own reflections.
Grandpa Fu was filled with envy upon hearing this.
He was partly responsible for protecting this land, and he really wanted to see how beautiful it was.
But his stubborn nature prevented him from saying anything about regret; he simply hummed softly to cover up his disappointment.
Tang Mingli was unaware of all this until noon. After lunch, when Madam Fu went back to her room for a nap, Tang Mingli was about to go upstairs when her husband, who was in the study, suddenly came out and quietly called her back.
"Bright and beautiful".
Tang Mingli stopped and turned around when she heard her name called.
"Grandpa, what's wrong?"
"Nothing much, I just wanted to ask if you have any plans to travel anywhere else?"
"Of course," Tang Mingli answered without hesitation. She would never have to worry about money in this life, and she had plenty of time. When it would be more convenient to travel together in the future, she would definitely visit this beautiful landscape more often.
But what did Grandpa mean by asking that?
Tang Mingli subtly observed him while pondering in her mind.
A few seconds later, she understood.
Grandpa must have regretted it after they left.
Having guessed what Grandpa Fu was thinking, Tang Mingli smiled and said, "Grandpa, you have to come along next time too."
Hearing this made Old Master Fu feel very comfortable, but he still put on airs and said, "We'll talk about it later. If there's nothing else, I'll go out for a walk with you."
Tang Mingli smiled at his smug look and didn't take it to heart.
Just as I was about to go upstairs again, I heard a noise at the front door.
Could this be my mother-in-law?
Tang Mingli stopped again, thinking of saying hello before going upstairs.
However, to everyone's surprise, someone else walked in through the door.
"Why are you back?" Tang Mingli asked again, her voice filled with undisguised joy.
The person who pushed open the door was Fu Ci, who had been away on a business trip for a long time.
Fu Ci smiled at his wife, "I'll be back as soon as I'm done with my work."
That's true, Tang Mingli chuckled to herself, realizing she'd gotten too excited and her words had lost their logic.
Fu Ci looked at Grandpa Fu again and called him "Grandpa".
Grandpa Fu also missed his grandson whom he hadn't seen in a long time, but he was used to not showing his emotions.
“You spend more time outside than at home every day.”
Fu Ci smiled and did not deny it.
Tang Mingli knew that her grandfather didn't mean it that way, so she stepped in to ease the tension: "You must be tired after running around for so many days."
She stepped forward to take Fu Ci's luggage, but Fu Ci refused, saying, "It's a bit dirty, I'll take it."
Okay, she doesn't necessarily have to show off.
Fu Ci glanced around and asked, "Where's Grandma?"
Tang Mingli pointed to her grandparents' room: "They're sleeping. We just got back a couple of days ago and haven't fully recovered yet."
"Then don't wake her up." Fu Ci subconsciously lowered his voice.
He knew that they were on a group tour, and even if they were just having fun, it was still quite tiring to be away for ten days.
During the ten days they were away, Fu Ci was both worried about their safety and missed them terribly.
After all, he hadn't heard his wife's voice for more than ten days in a row, which was the first time since they got married. He even dreamed that she was speaking in his ear.
He planned to convey this longing to his wife that evening.
Noticing her husband's gaze becoming intense, Tang Mingli's ears involuntarily turned red.
Afraid that Grandpa Fu would notice, she quickly urged, "Go upstairs and take a shower and change into some clean clothes."
Grandpa Fu agreed: "Mingli is right. Look at you, all dusty and dirty. Go take a shower."
Fu Ci nodded, "Then I'll go upstairs to take a shower first."
"Go ahead, go ahead."
After saying this, Old Master Fu put his hands behind his back, turned around and went into the study, making sure to close the door behind him.
Fu Ci smiled and gestured for his wife to go upstairs first.
Upon reaching the second floor, while searching for a change of clothes for Fu Ci, Tang Mingli asked, "Do you want to change into pajamas or loungewear?"
Fu Ci frowned, thought for a moment, and then asked for pajamas.
Tang Mingli immediately handed him a set of neatly folded pajamas, saying with a hint of concern, "Take a shower and get a good night's sleep."
Fu Ci smiled and nodded.
Watching her husband's retreating figure as he headed into the bathroom, Tang Mingli rubbed her eyes.
I don't know if it's just my imagination, but he seems to have lost weight.
He's so busy, it's no wonder he's lost weight.
How about we ask Aunt Guihua to make some ginseng soup tonight?
While pondering what to cook to nourish her husband, Tang Mingli subconsciously lifted the blanket and pulled him onto the bed.
Given her biological clock and the physical exertion she's experienced recently, she needs rest.
However, she was still trying to fight off sleepiness, wanting to stay awake until Fu Ci finished showering before they slept together.
Since he asked for a change of pajamas, he must have been too tired lately and wanted to take a nap at this time.
Should she try to make him understand that taking a nap isn't a waste of time? It's about conserving energy, like sharpening your axe before chopping wood.
Tang Mingli felt that her analysis made a lot of sense and planned to talk to Fu Ci after he finished taking a shower.
However, she still overestimated herself.
Fu Ci felt that she was too dirty from sitting on the train for two days, so she took a longer shower than usual. She couldn't wait for him to come out and fell asleep.
When Fu Ci came out of the shower, he saw his wife sleeping soundly, her face resting on her side, half of her body exposed outside the blanket.
The air conditioning was still on in the room, so he quickly went over and pulled the blanket up to her chest.
Touching her wet hair, she gave up on the idea of using a hairdryer and went back to the bathroom to grab a dry towel to wipe it haphazardly.
Back in the room, Fu Ci carefully climbed into bed.
Lying on the soft, comfortable bed, the exhaustion that had been suppressed by willpower swept over me.
I closed my eyes, ready to go to sleep, when I heard my wife call my name, so I quickly opened them.
But upon closer inspection, I couldn't help but laugh.
The wife simply rolled over.
But then she turned over and called her own name, and Fu Ci's heart felt like a pool of water had been rippled by a small pebble.
Without a moment's hesitation, he carefully pulled his wife into his arms, adjusted her position to make her comfortable, and then closed his eyes to sleep again.
He didn't plan to sleep for long. The bag he brought back contained not only a few sets of clothes to change into, but also most of the documents he was waiting to read.
Fu Ci considered himself a person with strong self-control. Before going to bed, he planned to sleep for only one hour, and he did indeed wake up after an hour.
His wife was still lying in his arms, sleeping soundly.
This feeling made him very happy, and he couldn't bear to pull away from the arm she was using to support her head.
But no matter how reluctant I am, I still have to get up and get to work.
Fu Ci carefully withdrew his hand.
Even though his movements were already very slow, he still managed to wake Tang Mingli up.
His first reaction was: That's impossible. Given his wife's sleeping quality, she wouldn't wake up unless he knocked on the door several times.
But the truth is, she opened her eyes the moment he withdrew his arm.
She was still sleepy-eyed, and her little mouth was pouting in a wronged manner.
Did I wake you up?
Fu Ci spoke very softly, as if afraid of startling Tang Mingli, who was not yet fully awake from her sleep.
Tang Mingli didn't answer; she simply collapsed limply against his chest.
How long did we sleep?
Fu Ci smiled and said, "About an hour."
Although Tang Mingli was confused, she knew that it was not yet 1 p.m. when she fell asleep, and even if she slept for an hour, it would only be around 2 p.m.
"Sleep a little longer, you need to rest well."
As she spoke, she tried to push him down.
Given her current strength, it's impossible for her to push Fu Ci away unless he cooperates.
And Fu Ci actually cooperated.
He lay down and helped his wife to lie down as well.
Tang Mingli was very satisfied and patted his back gently: "Good boy, sleep a little longer. You're too tired and need to rest."
She was very sleepy, but she forced herself to keep her eyes open and wait for his reply.
She was worried about him working so hard outside and wanted him to rest more.
Fu Ci couldn't bear to disappoint his wife's concern, so he sighed and decided to put aside his principles and indulge himself to sleep a little longer.
You'll be more efficient at reading documents when you're well-rested, right?
"Okay, I'll sleep a little longer."
Having received an affirmative answer, Tang Mingli closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep again.
Fu Ci looked down at her as she fell asleep instantly, unable to suppress the smile on his face.
It's wonderful to have her as a companion on life's journey.
