Chapter 13 Her Animalistic Characteristics

Facing these two powerful figures, Luo Ning knew that she would rather die than fall into their hands, otherwise she would suffer a fate worse than death. In the novel, there are also many instances of mutants abusing and killing each other.

"Take Xiaoruo and leave quickly." After saying this to Lu Xinghe, Luo Ning stood in front, hoping that as long as Lu Xinghe and An Xiaoruo escaped first, she could use her speed advantage to shake them off.

The female mutant charged at Lu Xinghe first, and Luo Ning also grabbed the iron spikes to block her. She stared at the female mutant's head, thinking that even if she couldn't hit her hard in one blow, she would still be willing to seriously injure her.

However, just as she was about to approach the female mutant, a loud bang rang out, and the delicate woman's head exploded right in front of her.

Everything happened too fast. The female mutant collapsed to the ground in disbelief, her eyes fixed on Luo Ning's back, her eyes wide open until her death.

Luo Ning knew that what she had just heard was a gunshot. The gunshots she had heard before were all from movies and TV shows, with sound effects through the screen. But what she had just heard was a short, clear whistling sound. It wasn't as intense as the ones in movies and TV shows, but it sent chills down her spine.

She turned around and saw Lu Xinghe holding the gun he had been polishing for a year. The muzzle was as black as a bottomless abyss. She had always thought the gun was too old to use, but she never expected that he had already taken good care of it.

Firearms are the most effective weapons against alien species and the strongest guarantee for humanity's survival to this day. Even the most powerful mutants will not survive if hit in the temple by a firearm.

She looked at him, her body trembling slightly. He had always had the ability to kill her.

Seeing his companion killed, the male mutant roared to the sky, his muscles bulging and his veins standing on end like stones—a manifestation of absolute power. He charged toward Lu Xinghe, but Lu Xinghe didn't meet him head-on. Instead, he flipped over the wall to dodge the mutant's attack. After a moment of distraction, Luo Ning rushed over to help.

With their combined efforts, the male mutant gradually found himself at a disadvantage. However, he was only focused on killing Lu Xinghe, so all his anger was directed at Lu Xinghe. Every punch he threw had the force of a landslide. Lu Xinghe fired at him with his gun. Although the bullets hit the male mutant, they did not cause fatal damage. When the wall was smashed down by the male mutant, he was also buried under the rubble.

The male mutant tried to step inside to drag Lu Xinghe out, but Luo Ning rushed to his side and pulled him outside. She was not as strong as the male mutant, but she could not escape, so she could only fight him with her agile body.

Seeing how agile she was, the male mutant had no way to deal with her, so he turned around and pounced on An Xiaoruo. He could see that Luo Ning cared about An Xiaoruo.

"Xiao Ruo, run!" Luo Ning shouted.

An Xiaoruo was hiding, but the mutants could easily sense the human's presence. After hearing Luo Ning's words, she took off running, but how could she be faster than the mutants? Just as the male mutant's fist was about to grab An Xiaoruo's face, Luo Ning rushed over to block in front of An Xiaoruo. However, she was not a strength-type mutant and could not withstand the male mutant's attack. She flew out and her head hit a sharp rock hard.

Although it didn't hit her temple, Luo Ning still felt dizzy. Her ears were ringing violently, and her vision turned blood red. Then came weakness and paralysis. Her last memory was of the male mutant lifting her by the collar.

The male mutant was furious and wanted to tear the unconscious Luo Ning to pieces. He raised his fist again, but suddenly a figure straddled him. He reached back to grab it, but a cold object had already deeply pierced his skull. His mouth opened wide like a dying fish. He desperately spun around trying to throw the person off, but the iron spike pierced through his head. He struggled for only a couple of moments before collapsing to the ground.

"Uncle, Mom is bleeding." An Xiaoru knelt beside Luo Ning, whose ears and nose were bleeding from the impact.

The boy frantically placed his hand under her nose. Fortunately, she was still breathing, albeit weakly, but as long as she didn't die, she could survive.

He picked up Luo Ning and carried her back to the basement: "Xiao Ruo, go and fetch some water."

An Xiaoruo hurriedly ran out. As she filled a basin with water, she saw the human who had come with the mutants standing blankly by the wall. He looked at An Xiaoruo in disbelief and asked, "Are they... dead? They must be dead."

An Xiaoruo did not answer; she hurriedly ran towards the basement with the water in her hand.

Lu Xinghe was checking Luo Ning's injuries. She had a wound on her head, but external injuries were not a concern. What was a concern was intracranial damage, which was the main survival area for the virus.

"Luo Ning." He called out to her, but Luo Ning did not respond.

"Will Mom die?" An Xiaoruo asked fearfully.

Lu Xinghe shook his head: "She won't die. Bring me the gloves."

An Xiaoruo immediately did as he was told. He put on gloves, pried open her mouth, and let the blood from his wrist flow directly into her mouth. His wound was thus exposed to her, and once it came into contact with her blood, he would be infected immediately.

He cautiously maintained his distance; he would not die, and he would never let her die.

Blood slowly seeped into Luo Ning's throat. She still showed no signs of waking up, but fortunately, the intracranial hemorrhage was decreasing and her breathing was not so weak. She was repairing herself.

"Uncle, you're injured too, go get it bandaged." Seeing that Lu Xinghe showed no signs of stopping, and since she was the only one who was still conscious, An Xiaoruo had to remind him.

As Lu Xinghe gradually regained his senses, he tore the cloth strips to bandage his wounds and then instructed An Xiaoruo to take care of Luo Ning. There were still the corpses of mutants and a living human outside, and he had to deal with them, otherwise it would attract more mutants.

After stepping out of the basement, he heard a rhythmic thumping sound. Looking in the direction of the sound, he saw the human being raised by the mutants smashing the corpses of the man and woman with stones, leaving the ground a bloody mess.

When the thin human saw him appear, he slowly stood up. The two looked at each other. Although they both lived with mutants, their situations and fates were completely different.

"Come in, it's not safe outside," Lu Xinghe said to the man.

The man staggered up to him, looked straight at him, and smiled: "I never thought I'd see a human being in my lifetime. It's wonderful."

Lu Xinghe was about to say something to comfort him when the man suddenly slumped to the ground. When he reached out to help him up, he found that the man was no longer breathing.

He looked at the man's emaciated body, his arms covered in countless scars. He knew the man had been drained of blood, and might even have been tortured inhumanely by the couple. This man, after using all his strength to smash the corpses of his persecutors, gave his fellow human beings a smile with his last breath before taking his final breath.

He was finally free.

With compassion in his eyes, Lu Xinghe closed the man's still-smiling eyes with his hands, then separated their bodies and burned them. This was the only thing he could do for this fellow human being.

Back in the basement, he carried the food and water inside and then sealed the door securely with steel plates. The next few days were crucial; he absolutely could not allow any danger to occur here.

An Xiaoru stayed by Luo Ning's side the whole time. It was the first time she had ever seen her mother so vulnerable and bleeding so much, and all of this was to protect her.

"How could I be useless? If I could run a little faster, Mom wouldn't have gotten hurt," she said sadly.

Lu Xinghe handed her the towel: "Then make yourself stronger. Crying won't solve anything."

An Xiaoruo looked at him with teary eyes. She had witnessed him kill two aliens today, and she knew he was right.

"I will definitely become as strong as you, Uncle, and I will protect Mom." An Xiaoruo said stubbornly, wiping away her tears.

Lu Xinghe nodded and said softly, "Put your gloves on too. Your mother has some minor wounds that we need to treat."

Even if Luo Ning can heal herself, her healing ability has now decreased. The continuous bleeding will not only affect the speed of her recovery, but the virus in her blood will also increase the chances of infection for him and An Xiaoruo.

“Okay.” An Xiaoruo immediately took the simple gloves. Although the gloves were made of animal intestines, they were still effective in isolating viruses. As long as they were careful enough, they would not be infected.

Lu Xinghe carefully lifted the blanket. Luo Ning's clothes had several large holes, revealing her soft, fair body and slender waist. There was no blood on her front, but there was blood on the sheets beneath her, indicating that she had a wound on her back.

He and An Xiaoruo carefully turned Luo Ning's body to the side, and sure enough, they saw a wound about five centimeters long on her lower back that was bleeding.

At the end of the waistline is a white pom-pom, most of which is hidden inside the pants, but the little bit that is exposed is enough to make people imagine its cute appearance and soft feel.

This was the first time he had seen her animalistic features, and the first time he had realized that even mutants could be so gentle.
