Chapter 61 Their Emotions

Luo Ning was awakened by the chirping of birds. She was immediately startled, thinking that the winged aliens had arrived.

She climbed out of her sleeping bag and ran to the window, only to see several white seagulls flying lightly in the air, like sprites in the wind.

It's not a winged alien species; it's a true bird.

She looked at the birds with delight. Perhaps because this place was far from the land, there weren't many infected birds, and the sound waves used to deal with the alien species wouldn't harm the normal birds.

On the beach, a figure in a white dress was squatting down, picking up seashells.

"Wenxi, don't go near the beach!" she shouted.

Wen Xi looked up at her and said, "Luo Ning, come quickly, there are lots of beautiful seashells here."

"Okay, I'm coming right now. Don't go near the beach, there are alien species there." After she finished speaking, she quickly went downstairs and left the villa.

She stepped barefoot onto the beach; the sand was white and soft. Looking up, the sea was a clear blue-green, and the sun was rising at the horizon, shining brightly.

A small pile of seashells had already accumulated at Wenxi's feet. As she said, each one was very beautiful. Luo Ning decided to take them back to decorate the room.

"Major Lu didn't stay long last night. Did something happen?" Wen Xi asked casually. She seemed to sense Du Lu's presence last night, but she wasn't sure. He couldn't possibly be here from such a distance.

But I still can't help but ask.

Luo Ning was a little embarrassed: "You didn't sleep last night?"

Actually, nothing happened between her and Lu Xinghe last night. He was called away by the communicator right after they kissed. She thought Wen Xi didn't know, but she didn't expect that she heard it all.

"I... I'm having trouble sleeping in this new place," Wen Xi explained somewhat flusteredly; she hadn't meant to overhear.

"It's nothing much, it seems to be some patrol arrangement. The alien species on the island have already been cleared out, but the alien species in the sea might climb up because of the large number of people, so don't go near them," Luo Ning replied.

Wenxi looked at the sea, which was calm and still: "But we are a different species, what is there to be afraid of?"

Luo Ning smiled and said, "That makes sense, but the ocean is very mysterious, and the creatures in the ocean are even more mysterious. No one knows what might happen, so it's better to be careful."

Wenxi nodded, unconsciously rubbing the white seashell in her hand: "Will we never be able to return to land?"

Luo Ning glanced in the direction of land: "Not necessarily. We should be able to go back once the situation improves."

As the two were talking, the female security officer who had said she was going to retire and write novels yesterday arrived with food.

The female security officer opened the box, which contained blood bags and raw meat: "I will be delivering your meals for the time being. The beds and tables and chairs will be brought in this afternoon. If you need anything else, please let me know. My name is Jiang Lanlan."

"Okay, thank you. Do you know where Major Lu is right now?" Luo Ning asked.

Jiang Lanlan pointed to a five-story hotel building halfway up the mountain: "They're having a meeting in that building right now."

"Is it about the northern base? How is the situation now?" Luo Ning asked with concern.

"It's not about the Northern Base, it's about farming on the island. The Northern Base held off the first wave of beasts last night, and the situation is better than expected," Jiang Lanlan replied.

"That's good." Luo Ning felt relieved. "Do we need to grow food on this island or go to the mainland?"

"Right on this island, there's supposedly a suitable place to grow crops on the south side. The advance team from the base has already prepared that land, and they'll be sowing the seeds in the next couple of days." Jiang Lanlan finished speaking and took out a thermometer and a form: "Please still monitor your temperature every eight hours."

After Jiang Lanlan left, Luo Ning and Wen Xi finished their meal and went to see An Xiaoruo.

An Xiaoruo arrived here three days ago. Because Luo Ning did not arrive as expected, she was very worried. When she saw Luo Ning walk into the ward, she finally couldn't help but cry.

"Don't cry, I'm back," Luo Ning said, hugging the little girl.

An Xiaoru sobbed, "Auntie, please don't leave us again. Do you know how worried I am?"

Luo Ning was taken aback: "What did you call me?"

An Xiaoruo snuggled against her: "Call me Auntie. I already know about you and Uncle, and I think it's more appropriate to call you Auntie. Otherwise, it would be strange for Uncle to be my father."

"What's strange about it? Didn't I raise you?" Lu Xinghe walked in from outside.

Luo Ning exchanged a glance with him and couldn't help but smile softly. Now that An Xiaoruo knew about their relationship, she felt much more relaxed.

“But you’re only eight years older than me, how could you possibly be my dad? I don’t want to,” An Xiaoruo said coquettishly.

"Okay, whatever you want, as long as you're happy." Lu Xinghe said, affectionately patting An Xiaoruo's head, while Luo Ning smiled happily beside him.

Wen Xi stood aside and watched everything silently. She also wanted to say something to An Xiaoruo, but Luo Ning had made An Xiaoruo worry because she was trying to save her. The three of them were a family, and she was just Luo Ning's friend, an outsider.

"Sister Wenxi, come and sit down too." An Xiaoruo noticed Wenxi's silence; she was only able to survive until now because of Wenxi's blood.

"Mm." Wen Xi walked over, her eyes softening.

"The baby is four months old now, right? Can I touch him?" An Xiaoruo asked expectantly.

"She's only four months along, there's no fetal movement yet, what can you feel?" Luo Ning said.

"It's alright." Wen Xi walked to An Xiaoruo's side.

An Xiaoruo, lying on the hospital bed, gently placed her hand on Wen Xi's stomach. When the girl's hand touched the slightly protruding belly, Wen Xi's face suddenly turned pale, and she subconsciously covered her stomach with her hand.

Luo Ning was startled and quickly helped her up: "What's wrong?"

"My stomach hurts." Wenxi felt the baby inside her move violently.

"I didn't use any force, I really didn't use any force." An Xiaoru was also stunned; she had only touched it lightly.

"Section Chief Qi, come to Xiao Ru's ward immediately," Lu Xinghe called out via communicator.

Qi Xiaowei quickly led her people to the scene and, after giving Wen Xi a simple examination, said, "The embryo is fine. It may be that it sensed the genes in Xiao Ru's body and instinctively tried to avoid her."

"Instinctively avoid? You mean the child is also a different species?" Wenxi asked in a low voice.

Qi Xiaowei replied, "Half of it. She is your child, so she definitely has your genes, but she is definitely different from other different species. Xiaoruo, you should not touch your sister Wenxi's belly anymore. It will make her very uncomfortable, and the little sister will be afraid of you."

“Yes, I will never touch it again.” An Xiaoruo nodded repeatedly.

After Qi Xiaowei left, Lu Xinghe wouldn't be able to stay for long. As the highest military commander on the island, he had many things to arrange.

"You two chat first, I'll come find you tonight," Lu Xinghe whispered to Luo Ning.

Luo Ning nodded and prepared to go back with Wen Xi. Since the child was afraid of An Xiaoruo, she would try to keep them away from each other.

After leaving the medical department, Wen Xi didn't want to go back: "Luo Ning, walk with me for a bit."

“Okay.” Luo Ning agreed, and the two walked up the hillside behind the medical department.

Wenxi remained quiet the whole way, seemingly preoccupied.

"Don't worry too much, Section Chief Qi said the child is fine." Luo Ning noticed her emotions.

“That’s not what I’m worried about.” Wen Xi shook her head. “I thought the child wouldn’t have any alien genes. Shouldn’t she be human?”

Luo Ning replied, "Although she has heterogeneous genes, she is definitely different from you and me. Otherwise, she wouldn't have saved An Xiaoruo. Anyone who can save people must be a good kid. Don't overthink it."

Wen Xi nodded, but she was still scared. However, in order not to make Luo Ning worry about her, she suppressed her emotions.

The two unknowingly walked to the mountainside. Luo Ning looked around and said, "This island is quite big. I'll take you back to rest first, and then I'll look around the island and get a feel for it."

"No need to take me back, I'll just wait for you here and enjoy the scenery." Wen Xi found a rock to sit on; the view was beautiful, and she didn't want to go back alone.

Luo Ning surveyed the surroundings. The view was expansive, and soldiers were patrolling in the distance. The island was currently safe, so she nodded and said, "Alright, I'll take a look around and come back."

"Okay, go ahead." Wen Xi nodded, rubbing her leg.

Luo Ning ran quickly across the island, nimbly weaving through the woods and taking notes of what she saw along the way. Although the base seemed friendly to her and Wen Xi, she would never entrust her fate to the kindness of others.

Half an hour later, she had run to the vicinity of the planting base that Jiang Lanlan had mentioned. Standing on the mountaintop and looking down, she saw that the cultivated fields were already filled with water and waiting to be planted, their bright surfaces reflecting the blue sky and white clouds.

The climate here is hot, allowing for two seasons of planting a year. Compared to the cold northern base, this place is indeed more suitable for human survival.

Just as I was gazing at all this, a clear cry came from the sea. Turning around, I saw a huge whale leaping out of the water, with countless birds circling around it. When it fell back into the sea, it stirred up fine white waves, and the sea returned to calm.

She couldn't tell if the whale was infected, nor did she know how many exotic species lived in this seemingly tranquil sea, but the current peaceful state made her feel less afraid.

On the other side, Wenxi felt a little dizzy from the sun, so she found a shady spot to sit down. She felt like something was watching her from all around, but when she looked closely, she couldn't find anything.

After a while, the patrolling soldiers approached. Although they knew there were two alien experimental subjects on the island, they were not security officers, so they were still somewhat wary when they saw her.

Wen Xi immediately lowered her head and stepped back.

"Wen Xi, what are you doing here?" Yao Cheng walked up from the back of the patrol team; he was now in charge of this patrol squad.

“I…I’m here admiring the scenery,” Wenxi replied.

"Your face is covered in sweat, you must be very hot. Do you want some water?" Yao Cheng handed him his water bottle.

"No, thank you. I'm not thirsty." Wen Xi politely declined.

Undeterred, Yao Cheng put away the water bottle and made a simple sun hat out of the flower vine: "Wear this, the sun here is very strong."

Without waiting for Wenxi's consent, he put the flower vine hat on Wenxi's head, then laughed and jogged away.

Looking at his smiling face, Wenxi didn't feel comfortable taking off her hat in front of him, so she had to keep it on for now.

However, in a cave not far behind her, a pair of icy blue eyes were coldly watching all of this.

Half an hour later, Luo Ning returned and looked at the flower hat in her hand: "You are so skillful. This hat is really beautiful. Make one for me too. It's so hot here."

"I didn't make it," Wen Xi said somewhat embarrassedly. "Yao Cheng was passing by just now, and he insisted on giving it to me."

"Oh, it seems he likes you a lot," Luo Ning said with a smile.

Wenxi looked at the flower hat in her hand: "But I hope he will like someone else. I don't want to hurt him."

Luo Ning sighed softly, "Let's go back. You've already rejected him, so this isn't your problem. Even if something happened, it wasn't you who harmed him, understand?"

"Mm." Wen Xi nodded.

Back at the villa, Luo Ning tidied up the house inside and out, decorated the rooms with seashells, and picked some flowers to put in vases, finally giving the house a bit of a living feel.

Meanwhile, Lu Xinghe led his men out to sea in a boat. They were going to go to a more distant place to monitor the situation in the sea. The advance team had already monitored the surrounding creatures. Many fish were infected, but fortunately, no deeper mutations had occurred. Even though they showed an appetite for humans, they would die after leaving the water, so there was no concern that they would rush to the island to attack humans.

But after An Yuan arrived, he felt that with more people on the island, it might attract some large creatures like arthropods. So this time, he went out to sea to use a deep-sea detector to go deep into the seabed to check.

The ship was sailing forward, and Lu Xinghe was observing the surroundings from the bow when An Yuan walked over and said, "You seem to really like that test subject."

Lu Xinghe glanced at him: "Her name is Luo Ning. She is the one who saved An Xiaoruo and raised her. I suggest you stop calling her an experimental subject. Besides, I really like her."

An Yuan pushed up his glasses on the bridge of his nose: "Your personality is very similar to your mother's. Do you know how your mother became a mutant?"

“I know. The aliens invaded the base, and she was bitten and infected,” Lu Xinghe replied.

An Yuan sneered: "So this is how Lu Zheng explained it to you."

Lu Xinghe sensed something was amiss in An Yuan's words, but he had witnessed his mother being bitten. The alien creature had broken into the house, and his mother had shielded him to save him.

“It wasn’t my dad who explained it; I saw it with my own eyes,” he replied.

"Oh, I see. Then you must still remember the alien that bit your mother, right?" An Yuan asked again.

Lu Xinghe did not answer. He remembered, but did not want to recall.

Seeing that he didn't speak, An Yuan continued, "Actually, that mutant and your mother were both from the Genetics Department. Your mother and he used to be lovers. If he hadn't become a mutant, they would have gotten married and had children, and you wouldn't exist in this world."

Lu Xinghe's eyes narrowed: "Do you know what nonsense you're spouting?"

An Yuan handed the photo in the communicator to Lu Xinghe. There were six people in the photo. Lu Xinghe immediately spotted his mother. She was leaning on a young man's shoulder, smiling brightly.

The photo also includes An Yuan and Han Ling, who still look like teenagers, one composed and the other spirited.

He also recognized the man his mother was leaning on as the alien who had attacked his mother that day.

“The photos can be composited, and your ages don’t match.” Lu Xinghe handed the communicator back to him.

An Yuan nodded: "Photos can be photoshopped, but happiness cannot. Didn't you see how happy your mother is? As for age, we and your father are all younger than your mother."

Lu Xinghe couldn't deny that his mother had never laughed so happily since he could remember, but he was sure that she and his father were loving, otherwise they wouldn't have had four children. So he still didn't believe it.

"You don't need to say these things to make things mysterious." Lu Xinghe turned to leave.

“Your mother deliberately got close to your father in order to hide the man who had become a mutant. You know that your father was a security officer when he was young, and this man was the first mutant to awaken,” An Yuan said.

Lu Xinghe involuntarily stopped in his tracks.

"That was more than 20 years ago. The man's name was Mingye. When he was 24, he was infected with a mutant due to an experimental accident. Your mother hid him away at all costs. But the base would naturally investigate if there was a missing experimental personnel. In order to keep track of the security officer's investigation, your mother married your father. You should know that your mother had a separate residence."

Lu Xinghe nodded silently. He had lived in that room with his mother, but after she became a mutant, it became her prison. Later, he also hid Luo Ning there.

"Then you must also know that there is a secret cage in that room, which is extremely sturdy and coated with black heat-resistant paint inside. Even infrared detectors cannot detect whether there is a heat source inside. Your mother hid Mingye there, and even your father did not know."

"Then how do you know?" Lu Xinghe countered.

An Yuan braced his hands on the gunwale, watching the rolling white waves: "Because that's what I did for your mother."

So he knew all of this, everything, and he kept this secret until this day.

Lu Xinghe's eyes flickered: "Why did you help her?"

“Because I like her.” An Yuan made no attempt to hide his feelings: “She is a very, very good person. No one dislikes her. Mingye, your father, me, and Han Ling all like her.”

Lu Xinghe hadn't expected things to turn out this way. In his memory, his mother was the gentlest woman in the world, always speaking softly and her eyes sparkling when she smiled.

"And then?" he asked.

"Later, Mingye's consciousness awakened, but only very slightly. He could barely recognize your mother. He was taken back to the laboratory. In order to find out why, Han Ling, Xiao Ruo's parents, and I left the base to go to the field research institute to look for other alien species to awaken."

"The result was that we didn't find it, so I came back alone while the others stayed out to continue the search. When I returned, I found that Mingye's consciousness had recovered quite well, and your mother was also very happy. She wanted to continue to devote herself to the experiments, but raising you four siblings had greatly exhausted her energy, and..."

An Yuan hesitated, his hands trembling slightly.

"And what?"

"And your mother was pregnant at that time."

Lu Xinghe was stunned; he had never known that his mother had been pregnant.

“Your father is worse than a beast. Although the base has always encouraged population growth, your mother has already given birth to four of you, but he still got your mother pregnant. If it weren’t for your mother’s poor mental state during her pregnancy, she wouldn’t have left the laboratory door unlocked, and Mingye wouldn’t have escaped and harmed her.” An Yuan’s eyes were filled with hatred.

Lu Xinghe's mind went blank. After the blank, his memory returned to that summer. After his mother and father quarreled, they took him to stay in that courtyard for a while. It was too hot. His mother was cooking mung bean soup for him. He watched ants moving house in the courtyard.

Then the alien rushed in. He clearly remembered that the alien had no emotions or consciousness. It was covered in blood and had bloody saliva dripping from its mouth.

He bit his mother to death, biting his mother who was pregnant with his child.

“He has no consciousness. I’m certain that the alien species has no consciousness at all,” he said firmly.

An Yuan was lying to him.

“Yes, you remember correctly. Mingye’s consciousness disappeared at that time. His consciousness only lasted for ten years before it vanished completely. That day, he went to find your mother on instinct, but in the end, he was defeated by his appetite.” An Yuan’s eyes were filled with sadness after he finished speaking. Even after so many years, he still could not forget the tragic scene at that time.

The ship had arrived at its designated location. Alien creatures were swimming around it. They sensed the scent of human flesh and blood on the ship and leaped violently, but due to the interference of sound waves, they were unable to get closer.

The genetics department began deploying detection equipment into the sea, and security officers were on alert everywhere; everything was proceeding smoothly.

"Why are you telling me all this?" Lu Xinghe asked, his voice trembling with suppressed emotion.

An Yuan sighed and replied, "Because I don't want you to follow in your mother's footsteps. I once said that Luo Ning is my most satisfying work, but I can't guarantee that her consciousness won't disappear again. If I'm not mistaken, this year marks the tenth anniversary of her regaining consciousness."

"She...is she really the one you regained consciousness?" Lu Xinghe had always thought he was lying, that he just wanted to compete with Han Ling.

An Yuan's expression was solemn: "Yes, that's why she appeared near An Xiaoruo, because our foreign research team happened to be there. But later we were attacked by aliens, and I lost my surveillance of her."

"What about the other mutants? Are they also your creations?" Lu Xinghe asked angrily.

“A small portion of them are, and the other mutants, like Mingye, awakened naturally. But Seventeen… Luo Ning also surprised me. I didn’t expect that she could control her appetite and save you and Xiao Ruo.”

Lu Xinghe gradually recovered from his shock, and his expression became more and more determined: "So she will definitely be an exception. I believe she will not be like Mingye. Moreover, there are Xiaoruo and Wenxi now. History does not stand still. Everything is changing."

“You…” An Yuan had said so much, intending to tell him to stop getting emotionally involved, but it seemed to have only strengthened his resolve.

"What if nothing changes? What if she really loses consciousness like Mingye?" An Yuan asked.

Lu Xinghe's eyes were sharp: "Then I will take her to a place where it won't affect anyone else, and take care of her just like she took care of me and Xiao Ruo before."

But An Yuan knew this would be difficult; the base wouldn't allow such a thing to happen unless he could also wield military power and control the base's fate like his father had.

The dark clouds that had blocked the sun dispersed, revealing a radiant glow on the sea. The alien creatures that had been following the ship returned to the water and dived into the deep sea.

"They seem to be afraid of light," one of the researchers said loudly.

"Grab a few samples, buy them, and take them back for research," An Yuan instructed.

"Dr. An, the probe has descended to a depth of two thousand meters. Would you like to come and take a look?"

“Okay.” An Yuan replied, and after taking a few steps, he said to Lu Xinghe, “Come and take a look together. If there really is an amphibian, we’ll have to rely on you to deal with it.”

The others also looked at Lu Xinghe with eager eyes. They were really afraid of encountering some monster in the deep sea and losing their lives. They could only rely on this powerful safety officer.

Looking into their eyes, Lu Xinghe realized that he used to take protecting others for granted. He was willing to give up his own life for the sake of others because that was how he had been raised, and the Red Gate also demanded the same of them.

And he never thought of giving anything in return; everything he did was for the benefit of humanity.

But after An Yuan told him his mother's story, and after learning that Luo Ning might lose consciousness again, he suddenly wanted to repay her.

Crescent Island.

Military headquarters detention room.

Han Ling was looking at the deep blue sky through a small ventilation hole. The day had passed quickly, but no one had come to see him yet, and no one had given him an answer as to whether he was alive or dead.

There are also Du Lu and Wen Rong. He didn't leave many potions. After they finished drinking them, they would lose control of their appetites. Given Wen Rong's personality, she would definitely go to the base to forage for food. However, the base is currently resisting the beast tide, and under such circumstances, she might die there.

As for Du Lu, he has much stronger self-control than Wen Rong, but how long can he maintain it?

And his dozens of test subjects should all awaken in the next few days, but unfortunately he's not there and can't control them.

Just as he frowned, a pair of icy blue eyes appeared outside the vent.

"Du Lü?" He couldn't believe what he was seeing.

“It’s me,” Du Lu replied coldly.

"How did you get here? Did you swim here?" Han Ling's first thought was that this man had swum here.

"I came by plane," Du Lu said indifferently.

Han Ling was stunned for a moment. The airplane was a confined space, filled with the smell of human flesh and blood, and Du Lu had managed to survive until he reached the island without being discovered.

This alien species was far more terrifying than he had anticipated.

Even so, they couldn't escape the island.

“I need your blood.” Du Lu threw in a set of blood-drawing syringes.

Han Ling picked it up: "You haven't eaten with anyone here these past two days?"

"Yes, it will be discovered."

"Can you control yourself?"

"I'm losing control of myself."

Han Ling inserted a needle into a vein and drew out blood. He never imagined that one day he would voluntarily give his blood to the alien.

He handed over the syringe, and Du Lu immediately began to swallow large gulps.

Footsteps came from the doorway, and Han Ling immediately sat back down in her original spot. Someone peeked out from the doorway and then left.

He was glad that the infrastructure here was incomplete, otherwise he and Du Lu would have been easily exposed if there were cameras.

After drinking the blood, Du Lu wiped his mouth and asked, "Can I eat the alien species from the sea?"

“Sure, if you can catch him,” Han Ling replied.

Du Lu was silent for a moment: "Subject Eleven...can the child in her womb still survive?"

"Why do you ask that?" Han Ling asked, puzzled.

"Last time, when her child was four months old, development stopped."

And now, she is almost four months pregnant.

Han Ling had no expertise in this field; it was An Yuan who came up with it.

But did Du Lü develop feelings?

He looked into Du Lu's eyes, which remained indifferent.

“I’ll ask around for you, and you can come back here at this time tomorrow,” he replied.

Du Lu left without even saying goodbye.

Han Ling suddenly realized that this man, who was usually so obedient, had only come to him this time to eat and to show concern for his woman.

"Damn it!" he said angrily, kicking the chair.

"What are you doing? Sit down!" the guard shouted sternly as he approached.

Han Ling smiled and walked to the door: "Make sure An Yuan comes to see me today."

After dark, Luo Ning kept looking at the villa entrance, but Lu Xinghe did not appear. Jiang Lanlan said that he had gone out to sea and would not be back until very late.

She walked to the beach, sat down, and waited for the boat to return. If only she had a cell phone and Wi-Fi, she could see him no matter where he was.

But it's not here.

After waiting for a while, a sudden gust of wind rose on the sea, accompanied by lightning and thunder, so she had no choice but to return to the villa.

Seeing her pacing anxiously, Wen Xi comforted her, "Don't worry, the storm isn't too big, Major Lu and the others will be fine."

"The waves aren't that big yet, they're already two or three meters high." Luo Ning looked out the window at the sea.

Wen Xi nodded: "Before the apocalypse, my sister and I... I and my family went out to sea a few times and encountered even bigger waves than this, but we were all fine. Major Lu and his crew's ship is bigger than ours, so they will definitely be safe."

"Your family's boat?" Luo Ning thought for a moment and then believed Wen Xi. Wen Xi was a wealthy heiress, so it was normal for her family to own a boat.

Around 11 o'clock, Luo Ning finally couldn't resist lying on her sleeping bag and drifted off to sleep. She didn't know how long she slept, but she felt someone watching her from the side.

She immediately woke up and found that Lu Xinghe had returned, covered in rain and his hair was still wet.

He's finally back.

"Why don't you go to bed?" he asked softly.

"I waited for you until you fell asleep, why are you only coming back now?" She spoke very softly, afraid of waking Wen Xi.

"The process of collecting experimental samples took a little time," Lu Xinghe replied.

"Then you should go back and rest, change your clothes, and be careful not to catch a cold."

"Okay." He can't get sick now, and there can't be any accidents to his body, absolutely not.

After taking a couple of steps, he turned back and said, "You can sleep at my place tonight."

He still wanted to have a child with her, not because of the requirements of the genetics department, nor for the future of humanity, but only for him and her.

Luo Ning glanced at Wen Xi's room, her face flushed, and nodded gently.

She also wanted to be with him.

It was raining heavily outside, and rainwater collection containers were placed everywhere, dripping and making a pattering sound as they were soaked by the rain.

The two ran hand in hand through the rain. When they arrived at Lu Xinghe's place, Lu Xinghe cupped her face and kissed her as soon as they entered the door.

Luo Ning sensed that he seemed to have something on his mind.

"The door...the door isn't closed yet," she mumbled through his kiss.

Lu Xinghe used one hand to close the door, then pinned her against the wall, reluctant to part.

"What's wrong? Did something happen?" Luo Ning asked.

Lu Xinghe pressed his head against her forehead, recalling what An Yuan had said: "It's nothing, I just missed you."

Luo Ning was a little worried about his health, so she pecked him on the lips: "Then go take a shower first. You smell like the sea, like a kitten that has stolen some fish."

Lu Xinghe sniffed himself and found that he did indeed smell of the sea.

He wanted to carry her into the bathroom so she could be covered in his scent, but there was no hot water, and she was afraid of the cold.

While Lu Xinghe went in to take a shower, Luo Ning sat on the bed looking at the room.

This place is very similar to his old dormitory: a bed, a set of desk and chairs, and a wardrobe. Although they are all old, they are kept very clean.

She opened the closet, and his clothes were all neatly hung. The space under the closet was the same as before. Thinking of those days, she lay down inside.

Although they're both lying in the closet, the feelings are completely different now. Back then, I was filled with fear and anxiety; now, I'm waiting for someone I like.

villa.

Wen Xi heard Luo Ning and Lu Xinghe leave, leaving her alone in the villa. She curled up in her sleeping bag, but still felt cold.

The wind was strong by the sea. Although the window in her room was intact, the wind made the window frames in the other rooms howl and the doors banged against the walls.

She got up and found some papers, which she slipped into the crack of the door. The sound finally disappeared. When she returned to her room, a flash of lightning streaked across the sky. It seemed as if someone had been standing under the tree from yesterday, but when she looked closely, there was nothing there.

The wind was still blowing fiercely, and the sound of waves crashing against the rocks continued one after another.

On Lu Xinghe's bed, Luo Ning was like a fish blown ashore by the sea breeze, her body tense, while Lu Xinghe was the violent wind.

She was jolted back and forth by the impact. She had intended to push him away a little, but in the end, she yielded to him a little more.

He grasped her hand, bit her delicate fingers, kissed her rose-like lips, and waited until her face flushed before pinching her waist. Between his fingers lay her soft, white flesh; her sweetness, so irresistible, was ingrained in his very being.

He looked at her face, taking in every detail of her features. Even though he was intimately connected with her at this moment, his heart was still pounding rapidly in his chest.

He will still be moved, whether he was young or now.

The wind and rain raged fiercely, then gradually subsided, the heavy clouds dispersed, and gentleness returned.

After everything was over, Luo Ning felt like she had been pulled out of the water; she didn't even want to move a finger.

Lu Xinghe fell asleep quickly; he hadn't had a proper rest in the past few days.

In the darkness, she traced her eyebrows, her straight nose, and her moist lips with her fingers.

He was very handsome; when he was awake, he was like a block of ice, but when he was asleep, he was as gentle as the moon.

Unable to resist, she kissed him on the lips again, then nestled softly into his arms.

"Luo Ning," he called her name.

"Mmm," she replied.

But he didn't say anything more, and she realized he had fallen asleep.

In my dream, I called her name.
