Chapter 44: Arranging the Yard

Yu Sheng went to see Mr. Jiang with a conflicted look on his face. Mr. Jiang nodded helplessly and agreed, "Listen to the prince."

What else could he do if he didn't listen? He couldn't change Yu Zizhen's mind. If he got angry, she would just say, "I'm not the real prince." He couldn't possibly piss the child off and let her actually say that in front of others, could he?

Yu Zizhen pretended not to notice the complicated expressions on everyone's faces. She cheered and looked at Yu Sheng, "Then it's settled. The third courtyard belongs to me from now on. The fourth courtyard... well, forget it. If I need it in the future, I'll tell you."

Yu Sheng: ...

Yu Sheng finally no longer felt that Yu Zizhen was well-behaved, sensible and lovable. He thought to himself, please don't tell me that anymore!

Yu Zizhen walked into Lumingxuan and decisively began to shoo people away. "Mr. Jiang, you should go and rest too. Everyone must be very tired after running around for so long. Grandpa Sheng, you can have my things moved to the west wing in the backyard of Lumingxuan. There's no need to decorate the room. Just have people prepare the bedding, screens, tables and chairs, tea sets, and other common items for us."

After a pause, she continued, "Madam Zhang is my cook, Yuheng and Yaoguang are my bodyguards, and they will all live with me. Oh, and by the way, I'd also like to trouble you to set up a small kitchen in my yard."

Upon hearing this, Yu Sheng subconsciously glanced at Madam Zhang and the other two, "Female guards? Aren't they... a little too young?"

He didn't think there was anything wrong with Yu Zizhen having female guards. After all, there were some places, such as the harem and the backyards of nobles and officials, where male guards were generally not allowed to enter. With two female guards following him, Yu Zizhen's safety would undoubtedly be better guaranteed.

But what kind of vision does their young master have? He chose two little kids who are about his age. What can they do to protect him?

"It doesn't matter if they're young, as long as they have talent." Yu Zizhen smiled and glanced at Yuheng and Yaoguang. "Raised from childhood, their loyalty is more guaranteed. Anyway, I'm still young and won't do anything dangerous, so naturally, I don't need them to have high martial arts skills."

This is only Yu Sheng. If it were someone else, she would just say "I'm happy to" to solve the problem.

Yu Sheng saw through Yu Zizhen's intention to drive people away. After all, she was really not hiding anything at all.

He bowed to Yu Zizhen, who was blocking the doorway and clearly didn't want them to enter. "Then I will arrange for someone to decorate your room right away, and then have someone send all your belongings and those of these three to Lu Ming Xuan."

Yu Zizhen nodded, "Thank you for your concern."

"It's all my responsibility." Yu Sheng said, bowed and turned away.

Upon seeing this, Mr. Jiang and the others also bowed and left, following Yu Sheng.

Yu Zizhen, who had gotten what he wanted, took Madam Zhang, Yuheng, and Yaoguang into the east wing of the front yard and said, "Let's sit down and rest for a while."

Madam Zhang had no place to rest. She had just seen a small stove for boiling water in the back room at the easternmost end, and was now thinking of boiling some hot water for Yu Zizhen.

She asked Yu Zizhen for instructions and then went about her business.

At the same time, Yu Sheng also urgently dispatched maids and servants who were quick and nimble.

While Madam Zhang was busy cleaning the copper kettle and lighting the fire to boil water, the maids and servants came in in two lines.

They were either holding or carrying painted boxes of various sizes, which were filled with bedding, pillows, tents, tea sets and other essential daily necessities.

Behind them were guards and attendants carrying huanghuali wooden tables and chairs, screens, wardrobes, bookshelves, treasure chests and other furniture.

The first thing the maids and servants did when they entered Lumingxuan was to put down the boxes in their hands and collectively bow to Yu Zizhen and greet him.

Yu Zizhen waved his hand, "No need to be polite."

Upon hearing this, Yuheng and Yaoguang, who had received instructions from Yu Zizhen in advance, immediately stepped forward to hand out silver rewards to the maids and servants.

The reward was not much. Yuheng gave two small silver ingots to the head housekeeper, and all the others were given two silver beans.

Everyone thanked Yu Zizhen for the reward. The leading housekeeper said to Yu Zizhen with a smile on her face, "We don't know the Crown Prince's preferences, so the room we have decorated may not be pleasing to your eyes or comfortable for you. I hope you can send someone who is used to it to teach us."

Upon hearing this, Yu Zizhen stood up and walked towards the main house, "Let me tell you in person."

The housekeeper was shocked. "How dare we, the servants, trouble the prince?"

Yu Zizhen smiled at her, "But I don't have many people I'm used to around. My sisters who used to serve me, according to the palace's rules, stopped following me when I was seven. I left the former housekeeper in the northern border with her because I saw she couldn't bear to leave her family behind. The people around me now have been with me for as long as I've been on the road, and they have little understanding of my personal interests."

The housekeeper didn't know what to say when she heard this. She really didn't expect that their prince didn't have a servant who had served him for a long time.

Seeing her bewildered expression, Yu Zizhen couldn't help but laugh inwardly. Shouldn't she feel quite accomplished for being able to elicit such an expression from such a shrewd person from such a large and powerful family?

"After all, it's my own room to decorate, so it's only natural that I contribute some effort." Yu Zizhen smiled as he walked into the backyard and led them straight to the main house. "I'll live in the two rooms on the east side, and the two rooms on the west side. The one in the middle will be my study."

"For things like blankets and curtains, the colors shouldn't be too bright or too old, and there shouldn't be a lot of embroidery on them."

"Just configure the rest for me. Once the overall effect is ready, I'll tell you what needs to be adjusted."

The housekeeper couldn't help but secretly breathe a sigh of relief upon hearing this. Fortunately, their prince was not a very picky master.

Before, Yu Sheng found her and told her that the prince would not live in Qinghui Courtyard, but in Lumingxuan. She thought that the prince was extremely dissatisfied with the layout of Qinghui Courtyard, which scared her.

Although Yu Sheng told her later that the prince had not entered Qinghui Courtyard and there was no possibility that he would be dissatisfied with their arrangements, the housekeeper thought about Yu Zizhen's unorthodox behavior of not living in Qinghui Courtyard as a prince, and she was still a little worried that Yu Zizhen was an extremely difficult person to serve and was very good at making things difficult for others with her own wild ideas.

Now that she had actually come into contact with Yu Zizhen, the housekeeper's originally high-spirited heart finally calmed down a little.

She reminded Yu Zizhen, "That time..."

"Leave it empty for now."

There are five rooms in the main house. The middle one is used for receiving guests. The east side room and the east wing room have one bed and one kang. She plans to decide whether to sleep on the bed or the kang based on the weather in the future. There is nothing in the west wing room at the moment, so it is just right to be arranged as a study. As for the equally empty west side room, she really can't think of any other use for it for the time being.
