Chapter 100 This is Murder

Su Mengyan knew very well that if the symptoms were only mild, there was still hope of recovery.

But if they are thrown together and left alone, they can only wait for death to come.

"Where did you know this?" Situ Yao asked her in a deep voice. It wasn't that he thought what Su Mengyan said was useless, but he was just wondering how she knew this.

When Su Mengyan decided to speak up, she had already thought about how to respond to Situ Yao's questions. So, she said calmly, "I once read a medical book that recorded this method. Later, a miracle doctor also mentioned it. I never thought I'd actually use it one day."

"What medical book is it?" Cui Mixue asked impatiently.

"I saw it a long time ago and I have forgotten it." Su Mengyan said it as if it were true. Situ Yao looked at it for a moment and did not ask any further questions.

Cui Mixue was very unhappy. She was clearly the doctor, so why was it Su Mengyan who got the limelight in front of Situ Yao? She clenched her handkerchief tightly and said with a look of concern, "Is what Yan'er said really useful?"

"I didn't mean anything else." Cui Mixue explained quickly, as if she was afraid she would misunderstand. "I'm just worried that if it doesn't work, it might harm more people."

Su Mengyan didn't like hearing this. Her methods were all based on the experience of her predecessors. Facing Cui Mixue's questioning, she answered calmly, "If it doesn't work and more people are infected with the plague, I will be responsible."

"How are you going to take responsibility?" Cui Mixue suddenly interrupted her excitedly, "You don't have any medical skills, so you're just going to rely on your eloquence?"

Su Mengyan looked at her in surprise, not understanding why the usually gentle Cui Mixue suddenly became so irritable.

Only Situ Yao remained calm, with a hint of sarcasm on the corner of his mouth, as if he had already known Cui Mixue's true face.

Cui Mixue saw everyone's different expressions and realized that what she had just said was inappropriate. She quickly made amends, "I'm also worried about the people. Yan'er, don't mind. I didn't mean to doubt you."

Since she said so, Su Mengyan naturally couldn't be angry, and she understood Cui Mixue's behavior very well. "I know that doctors are like parents to their children. I'm not angry."

"Alright, stop arguing." Situ Yao stopped the pointless quarrel. "Whether it's useful or not, let's wait until we find a patient in the city."

Situ Yao glanced at Su Mengyan after he finished speaking and said, "Come with me."

When the two of them arrived at their room upstairs, Situ Yao asked her directly, "How are you going to stop our breathing from intertwining?"

"What do you want to do, sir?" Su Mengyan planned to make a simple mask, but she was short of manpower and had not figured out how to do it.

"I need to ask the people we brought back some questions." Situ Yao answered her without reservation.

"Then wait a moment, sir." Su Mengyan tore off a piece of silk cloth, felt the texture, and thought it should be fine if she held on for a while.

She quickly made two masks that looked extremely ugly. When Situ Yao first saw them, his eyes were gleaming with undisguised disgust. "Is this what you're talking about?"

"Yes, but it's a simplified version. Once you're inside, you still can't get too close." Su Mengyan wasn't sure how useful it would be, so she asked cautiously, "Sir, do you really want to go by yourself?"

"Is there anyone else who can go in my place?" Situ Yao asked her. This time when he came to Chu City, he only brought his personal guards and no officials from the Eastern Palace. He had to do all the interrogation work himself.

Su Mengyan handed him the mask with a sad look on her face, "If Yunfu knew about this, he would definitely be sad."

When they left the villa, Yunfu entrusted her with the important task of keeping an eye on Situ Yao. But why hadn't she ever considered whether she could keep an eye on Situ Yao? Su Mengyan pulled the corners of her mouth and complained furiously.

"How do I wear this?" While she was complaining in her mind, Situ Yao was already studying the mask.

Su Mengyan demonstrated it to him, and Situ Yao put it on himself. It covered his mouth and nose, just enough to reveal his starry eyes and thick eyebrows.

Su Mengyan felt that the mask not only did not hide his handsomeness, but instead made him more mysterious. She couldn't help but stare at him for a while, until Situ Yao reminded her, then she realized that she had been distracted and put on the mask with a red face.

The doctor prescribed medicine for the boy, which could not cure the disease, but could temporarily relieve it.

When Su Mengyan and the others went in, they felt that he was in much better spirits than before.

"What are you going to do?" The boy remained alert.

Su Mengyan turned her head to look at Situ Yao, whose eyes were piercing, and thought that he had probably frightened the child. So, she walked forward with a smile and said, "Don't be afraid. We really won't hand you over to them. We just want to treat you and ask you a few questions."

Su Mengyan's smile eased the boy's nervousness. He was no longer so scared. He looked at them timidly and said, "What do you want to ask?"

"What's your name?" Su Mengyan asked.

"Zhao Qing."

"Qing'er, don't be afraid. This brother will ask you some questions later. Tell him what you know, and shake your head if you don't know." Su Mengyan coaxed her for a long time, and finally coaxed her into daring to look up at Situ Yao.

"Go ahead and ask, I know you are good people." Zhao Qing had been chased for many days, which made him wary of everyone. However, since he arrived at the inn, not only was he not abused, but he also asked a doctor to treat him. This made him slowly believe that they were really good people and were not here to arrest him.

Situ Yao frowned and looked at him, then asked the first question, "Who wants to arrest you?"

"They wore the uniforms of officials and would search every house every day. Anyone who saw a sick person would be arrested." Zhao Qing couldn't help but shiver with fear when he thought of those people.

"Where did they take the men?"

"I don't know. My parents were taken away by them and never came back. And Uncle Wang and his family next door were also taken away." He started crying as he spoke.

Situ Yao speculated that the deserted city was partly due to the plague-infected people being taken to an unknown location. Another reason was probably that they were hiding for fear of being taken away by the officials.

After all, none of the people who were taken away came back.

"Are your parents sick too?" Situ Yao ignored his crying and continued to ask.

"Mom was sick, and they wanted to take her away. Dad refused, so the officers took them all away together." But they didn't expect that not long after, Zhao Qing also fell ill, and their happy family was broken up.

"Taking those who are not infected with the plague over is murder!" Su Mengyan said angrily.
