Chapter 29 Someone is coming to the palace

The excuse was that he wanted to see what Situ Yao had done with the imperial mausoleum, but in reality the person who came was the emperor's confidant.

"Your Highness, the Emperor has asked me to come and see the repairs Your Highness has supervised. And by the way, I want to ask you, what insights have you gained from studying books?"

Su Mengyan was shocked when she heard this. This person was not here to urge the emperor to abdicate, but was obviously here to urge Situ Yao to abdicate.

"The homework assigned by my father is a bit heavy, so I may need to study for a while longer." Situ Yao remained calm.

Even though she saw the old eunuch's unhappy expression, Su Mengyan still spoke as planned: "Since the eunuch is here, please go into the courtyard first. However, the conditions in this imperial mausoleum cannot compare to those in the palace. I am sorry to have wronged you."

Logically speaking, the crown prince did not feel wronged under such circumstances, and a eunuch should not be above the royal family no matter what.

But the eunuch didn't think there was anything wrong with what he said. He just snorted coldly and walked forward with his airs. When he reached the courtyard, his expression turned cold and he asked in a deep voice, "Is His Royal Highness the Crown Prince dissatisfied with this old servant?"

The courtyard in front of them was the courtyard that the young eunuch led Su Mengyan and Situ Yao to when they first arrived.

Situ Yao, however, remained calm as he sighed, "This imperial mausoleum has been in disrepair for a long time, and along with it, these courtyards are no longer in good condition. Just recently, after a strong wind, all the courtyards were toppled over, leaving only this one intact. My father-in-law probably doesn't know that I've been living inside the imperial mausoleum lately."

After a slight pause, Situ Yao raised his eyes to look at the old eunuch and asked with a half-smile, "If you don't mind, why don't we live in the imperial mausoleum together?"

The old eunuch was stunned and naturally minded.

He laughed dryly and turned his face away, saying, "No, I'll live here. It's fine."

Situ Yao and Su Mengyan's guess was correct. A heavy rainstorm hit the imperial mausoleum that night. However, the mausoleum was located at a relatively high altitude, and Situ Yao had already made preparations, so it was not damaged.

However, the situation was different with the old eunuch.

The house itself was in disrepair, and the heavy rain caused it to leak.

I don’t know if it was done by Situ Yao’s people, or if it was God’s will.

The house was leaking right on top of the old eunuch's bed. When it rained heavily, the old eunuch had no place to stay for the night.

The house was leaking and the ground was full of water. There was no place to live in peace.

The old eunuch had been in the palace for many years. Although he had not been pampered by the emperor during these years, he had not suffered any hardship for a while. Now, tortured by this treatment, the old eunuch was like an angry lion the next morning.

Not caring about the difference in status, the old eunuch went straight to Situ Yao and angrily asked, "What does your Highness the Crown Prince mean by this? Do you look down on this old slave, or do you look down on the Emperor?"

As expected of someone who had served in the palace for many years, the old eunuch immediately put a big accusation on Situ Yao.

Situ Yao, however, looked bewildered and asked, "What do you mean, sir?"

"Even if Situ Yao looks down on me, I am here on behalf of the Emperor after all!" The old eunuch became anxious when he saw that Situ Yao not only refused to admit it but also pretended to be stupid.

"I don't understand what you're saying, eunuch." Situ Yao put his hands behind his back, a half-smile on his face. "Eunuch, you came to inspect the imperial mausoleum. I prepared the best courtyard for you. How can you say you look down on it?"

That's called the best yard?

The old eunuch was so angry that he almost couldn't breathe, and blurted out: "Situ Yao, don't go too far!"

"Come here." Situ Yao said with a slight smile, his expression unchanged, "Go and show the eunuch our other courtyard."
