Chapter 233 Fried

Su Xueyan looked at the bamboo basket on Su Qingluan's back, and a mischievous idea suddenly came to her mind. She jumped hard and grabbed the edge of the basket with both hands.

Originally, the little girl was only three years old, and weighed only a dozen pounds at her age. For a girl like Su Qingluan who was already thirteen or fourteen years old, carrying the weight of an extra child was a bit difficult, but not completely impossible.

But Su Qingluan was unaware of her sister's actions and was about to slide the backpack off her shoulders.

Su Xueyan jumped and pulled the backpack off Su Qingluan's back.

The little girl didn't jump too high, so she didn't fall. However, the things in the backpack were pulled out of the basket and fell all over her face and body.

In fact, there was nothing particularly heavy in the basket. Even if Su Xueyan fell all over her head and body, it would not cause any real harm to a little girl of three or four years old. But Su Qingluan obviously forgot one thing -

"Ahhhhh--!!" The sharp and high-pitched scream of a child came from behind, making Su Qingluan's hair stand on end.

Almost subconsciously, Su Qingluan quickly turned around: "What happened to Xueyan? Did she fall and get hurt?"

"There's a snake!" The little girl was so frightened that her golden beans dropped in strings. "There's a snake! It bites people!"

Su Qingluan then remembered that she had just caught two snakes in the woods to have as a snack for dinner. At this moment, the "snack" itself was hanging motionless on Su Xueyan's clothes.

However, the frightened little girl did not have the extra energy to pay attention to the life or death of the snake, and she was so scared that she cried loudly.

Su Qingluan quickly caught the two snakes and took them aside. She held her sister in her arms and coaxed her, "Don't cry, don't cry. Look, the snakes are dead and won't bite anyone anymore."

At this time, the rest of the family heard the crying and ran over to see what was going on. Even Sun Guixiang, who was standing opposite, stood with her hands on her hips, protecting her stomach and looking over here.

Su Qingluan had to explain one by one and promised to make the snake meat more delicious tonight.

"You've been in the mountains all day today, so why don't you take a rest?" When Yang heard that Su Qingluan was going to make dinner, she touched her hair with heartache.

Su Qingluan shook her head and said, "I promised Xueyan today that I would make the snake meat more delicious so that she can eat more and avenge the fright she just received."

As she spoke, she looked down at her skirt which was already a little dirty, and said regretfully, "If I had known that I would be going into the mountains and forests all day today, I would not wear this." She was reluctant to wear the skirt that her mother had made with great difficulty, and she even dressed so shabbily just to meet a rich slave.

Su Qingli felt that he had lost a lot of money and decided to raise the price of the jam when the time came.

Yang laughed when she heard this: "Aren't these clothes meant to be worn? If they get dirty or torn, I'll just make you another one. What's the big deal?"

Su Qingluan heard what her mother said and shook her head slightly: "It's just... I feel it's not worth it..."

"Why wouldn't it be worth it?" Yang laughed playfully as she looked at her eldest daughter's somewhat apologetic expression. "Aren't we going to meet someone important today? If so, why wouldn't it be worth it?"

Su Qingluan thought about it and agreed. Although no one in the Xie Mansion was important to him, as the "Party A" who provided the funds, they were quite important.

However, Su Qingluan thought about how Yang Shi wasted time and energy sewing the clothes, and couldn't help but touch the hem of the clothes that was a little frayed from being scratched. "Next time, I will dress more carefully."

"Okay, stop imagining things," Yang pushed Su Qingluan towards her room. "Don't we have to make something to feed those two greedy little cats later today? Is there anything I can help you with?"

When Su Qingluan heard this, she turned her head and grinned: "Of course..." to make a fire.

After changing into light clothes, Su Qingluan went to the kitchen. Yang had already lit the fires in both stoves, though one wasn't quite burning yet. She was squatting beside the bellows, slowly pulling them with just the right amount of force to allow air to enter the hearth, making the fire burn brighter and preventing it from going out due to excessive wind.

On the other stove, there was a clay pot filled with boiling water, which would be used to cook porridge later.

Su Qingluan turned to look for the backpack and the small shoulder basket she had put aside. After scanning the kitchen, she found the shoulder basket in a corner of the kitchen counter, with the backpack leaning against the wall. The scattered debris had been carefully gathered and returned to the backpack.

Su Qingluan rummaged through the inside of the tableware cabinet and pulled out two thin-necked, coarse porcelain bottles that had accumulated some dust. Judging from the amount of dust and the fine spider webs on the bottle mouths, they had probably not been used for a while.

I turned around and asked Yang, and sure enough, these two narrow-mouthed bottles were originally the vinegar bottle and soy sauce bottle in the house.

However, there are some problems with the shapes of these two bottles. They have loose mouths. Although there is no problem when filling these liquid seasonings, they will get everywhere when pouring them out.

Seasonings are so expensive, even common vinegar and soy sauce, every time you use it, some will be wasted, and it is hard for anyone not to feel bad. So these two "wasted" bottles have been left unused.

When Su Qingluan heard what Yang said, she knew that the two bottles would probably be of no use for a while, so she simply turned around, wiped them clean, filled them with clean water, trimmed the wilted wild flowers she had picked earlier, made flower arrangements, and placed them on the table in the main hall and the windowsill in the kitchen.

One bottle of light yellow and one bottle of light purple wild flowers had a furry golden edge under the afternoon light.
