Chapter 18 Grand Tutor, Happy Lantern Festival

The workshop produced many trinkets, and Yun Qing even found a ring that could conceal a tiny, sharp needle. Poisoning it might produce some unexpected effects.

There seems to be no danger now, but who knows when Liang Zhigong or Pingjiang Wang might make a move against the little tyrant? Yun Qing can't keep an eye on him every second, so she can only provide Xie Rang with more protection in these small details.

She was fulfilling her duty of teaching, but Xie Rang ultimately had to grow up on his own.

Xie Rang finished practicing his calligraphy, set it aside to dry, and tilted his head: "The Grand Tutor looks very happy."

"Really?" Yun Qing patted his cheeks, his eyes smiling. "Perhaps it's because today is the Lantern Festival. I won't leave the palace today; I'll stay with Your Majesty, shall I?"

[The lights are more interesting to look at at night; I wonder if the little tyrant will like them.]

A lamp? Xie Rang's eyes lit up subtly, a hint of anticipation rising within them.

But recalling what Yun Qing had said earlier, he still felt a little awkward: "Didn't the Grand Tutor say that we shouldn't stay overnight in the palace?"

Yun Qing didn't bother arguing with that vengeful brat, and smiled, "Today's situation is special. I was just thinking that Your Majesty would be alone. What, does Your Majesty not wish for me to stay?"

Xie Rang replied reservedly, "Well... not really."

He was just saying it.

Okay, okay, it's just a little tsundere.

Yun Qing saw through his personality but didn't say anything; she just kept it to herself.

Xie Rang accepted Yun Qing's assessment of him in his heart without any expression.

Since the overnight stay was confirmed, there was more time today. Yunqing specially instructed the kitchen to remember to prepare glutinous rice balls, and then she planned to give Xie Rang another lecture on a policy essay.

Thanks to the strict modern examination system, Yun Qing remembered all of this very clearly, including the explanations and interpretations, which were the essence of everyone's collective wisdom.

Who would have thought that I, a history researcher, would not only transmigrate into this world but also become the tutor of a young tyrant?

In her intermittent rants, Yun Qing felt that she was pretty awesome. Perhaps this was the ambition shared by all time travelers: to see if she could change an era with her abilities.

She rubbed the ring in her hand; it had already warmed up. She planned to give it to the little tyrant that evening.

After this year, Xie Rang should be twelve years old, and he will be one year closer to taking power.

Looking at it this way, time seems to have flown by quite quickly.

After finishing his strategy discussion and giving Xie Rang ample time to think, Yun Qing didn't assign him any other tasks. Xie Rang, however, was quite self-disciplined and practiced swordsmanship for a while. His movements were sharp and gave off a sense of menace, making him much better than Yun Qing.

Neither Li Yunqing nor Yunqing had any talent for martial arts. In the end, they only learned a little self-defense, mainly for the purpose of strengthening their bodies.

As the boy finished his last movement, Yun Qing finally couldn't help but praise, "Your Majesty is amazing!"

The snow stopped temporarily. Yun Qing felt a bit cold, so she didn't go into the courtyard. Instead, she stood on the veranda, using a pillar to block the wind, and took the opportunity to check on Xie Rang's progress over the past few days.

Xie Rang sheathed his sword and looked back, only to see his Grand Tutor standing not far away, wearing a cloak, with a smile in his eyes and a gentle aura, not at all like someone from a military family.

Even in the deep palace, Xie Rang would occasionally hear a few words of praise about the eldest son of the Li family from the palace servants. They were nothing more than comments about his extraordinary talent at a young age. He did not take it to heart at the time, but fate played a trick on him, and this person eventually became his tutor.

Xie Rang walked over and replied, "Thank you for your kind words, Grand Tutor."

"There's no need to thank me." Yun Qing stuffed the hand warmer in his hand into the little tyrant's hand and said, "Warm yourself up first. The Lantern Festival should be ready soon. I'll go and check on it."

Yunqing had eaten all sorts of glutinous rice balls in modern times, but in the end, she still thought the black sesame filling was the best. She hadn't had it in a long time, and now that she thought about it, she was actually a little hungry.

Sure enough, the chef was cooking them. The glutinous rice balls were floating in the water, round and plump. Seeing this, he quickly scooped up two and said, "Young master, would you like to try some?"

Yun Qing glanced at the little tyrant who had come with her and chuckled, "Forget it, let's just bring them out together."

This afternoon was filled with studying and sword practice, so the little tyrant must have used up a lot of his energy. It's almost dinnertime now, and it gets dark quickly in winter, so it's a good time to let him watch the lanterns after dinner.

Taking good care of him has paid off. The little tyrant's face has finally gained some weight, and his hair is not as frizzy as it was before. He looks like a noble young master.

Yun Qing suddenly felt a sense of accomplishment in raising a child.

After dinner, she asked the little tyrant to come with her for a stroll in the courtyard. Her bodyguard, Qingque, had lit lamps there beforehand, so the whole way was bright.

Xie Rang knew in advance that she had something to give him, and his mind calmed down. In an instant, only the sound of their footsteps could be heard in the entire space.

It's so quiet, it feels strange.

Xie Rang had just heard Yun Qing's voice when she stopped a moment later, turned around and bowed slightly in front of him: "Your Majesty, Happy Lantern Festival. This is a gift from your subject."

Yun Qing took out the ring, which was exquisitely crafted. The dragon coiled on it looked majestic, but its mouth held a hidden secret.

Xie Rang was taken aback. Wasn't it a lamp?

"Your Majesty, I cannot always be by your side. This contains poisoned needles, which can be used in case of crisis."

Buying the lanterns was a spur-of-the-moment decision, and Yunqing didn't consider it a gift, so she took out the ring first, which was more practical.

Xie Rang took the ring, which fit perfectly on his middle finger. He held it up to his eyes and examined it closely, quickly discovering its exquisite craftsmanship.
