Chapter 26 Happy Birthday

The teacher and student had a wonderful afternoon of fun.

Since they weren't going back to the palace anyway, Yun Qing waited until nightfall before taking Xie Rang to return to their residence.

"I have had longevity noodles and other things prepared for you at home."

When Yunqing was working like a slave for her mentor, she indirectly learned a lot of skills, such as cooking. She would occasionally make some desserts to please her mentor's children, and she had some experience in cooking.

Although materials were limited in ancient times, cakes could still be made. Yunqing explained the process to the chef when she left home in the morning, and now that she had dinner, she could enjoy cake. Just thinking about it made her feel wonderful.

I wonder if the little tyrant will be pleasantly surprised?

Yun Qing's thoughts were fragmented and disjointed, so Xie Rang couldn't hear them all, but when he heard the words of surprise, his ears perked up slightly.

The Grand Tutor always brought him many things he had never seen before, and Xie Rang couldn't tell whether these things existed now or were from the place where the Grand Tutor originally lived.

Even now, Xie Rang feels that his ability to accept things is really strong. Perhaps it's because he has seen so many terrible people that he doesn't feel much fear towards the Grand Tutor who doesn't seem to be here.

Although the two were in the same carriage, their thoughts were completely different. However, the atmosphere was surprisingly harmonious, and the swaying motion was quite hypnotic.

But suddenly, whether out of intuition or something else, Yun Qing abruptly snapped out of her thoughts and subconsciously pulled Xie Rang to her side.

Almost at the same time, a sharp arrow, gleaming with cold light, flew in through the window and landed firmly on the carriage wall with a hum.

"Young master, there is an assassin. Please stay in the carriage and do not move."

Qingque's voice was calm and steady. This qualified leader of the secret guards took on the responsibility of protecting his master and stood guard by the carriage, instructing the other secret guards to deal with the assassins.

For a moment, all Yun Qing could hear was the chaotic sounds of war outside, the clashing of cold weapons seemingly right beside her ears. Her face paled, and she hugged the little tyrant even tighter.

"Your Majesty, please don't worry, everything will be alright."

When Xie Rang was nestled in the Grand Tutor's arms, he felt as if he could hear his heart pounding. Even though he was terrified, he still told the Grand Tutor not to worry.

Xie Rang was filled with mixed emotions.

His body language betrayed his actions; he reached out and hugged Yun Qing as well.

As it turned out, the same method didn't work the second time. The guards had already failed in their duty once, and this time they were well prepared, so no attack could get close to the carriage.

After a while, the commotion outside subsided. Qingque approached and whispered, "Young master, they are all dead servants. There are no survivors."

The most difficult assassins to deal with are these Deadpools. If they fail to complete a mission, they will commit suicide by poisoning themselves, leaving absolutely no trace for anyone to investigate.

For someone who grew up in a peaceful era, it is still very difficult to make Yun Qing face death directly, let alone now that she can smell blood.

After calming her discomfort, Yun Qing said, "Clean it up and go back to the manor."

"Yes, sir."

Changing mindsets is incredibly difficult; those are lives at stake.

It took Yun Qing a while to calm herself down. The stench of blood that had been lingering around her gradually dissipated as the carriage moved, and she finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Xie Rang slowly moved out of her embrace and asked hesitantly, "Was the Grand Tutor frightened?"

Yun Qing paused for a moment: "How could that be? I was just thinking about something."

[Li Yunqing comes from a family of generals. Although she's a bit frail, she shouldn't be afraid of this. The little tyrant shouldn't suspect anything, right?]

"oh."

Xie Rang did not expose her, which confirmed one thing for him: the Grand Tutor was indeed too kind-hearted; otherwise, how could he have felt pity for the person who came to kill her?

Seeing blood on one's birthday is not considered auspicious, but the little tyrant clearly didn't have this concern, so Yun Qing didn't bring it up.

Upon returning to the residence, Uncle Jiang greeted them immediately: "Your Majesty, Young Master, dinner is ready. Please come down quickly."

At Uncle Jiang's signal, the servants standing nearby immediately brought over a hand warmer and a cloak, instantly wrapping Yun Qing and Xie Rang up tightly to keep them warm and protected from the biting cold.

Yun Qing asked, "What about what I asked them to prepare?"

Uncle Jiang couldn't help but chuckle: "In the small kitchen."

After asking Yunqing, he didn't say much more. He and Xie Rang went inside to have dinner, where the underfloor heating made it very warm.

The most eye-catching thing in front of Xie Rang was a bowl of noodles, with two eggs and a few small green vegetables on top. It was simple and not too extravagant.

"People always eat longevity noodles on their birthdays, Your Majesty, would you like to try some?"

There's not much to make with a bowl of noodles, but this is the first time since he was born that someone has cared about him so much, including making serious preparations for his birthday. Xie Rang couldn't describe his feelings at that moment, and he obediently started eating the noodles.

The last bowl of noodles was completely finished, even the soup was drunk.

Yun Qing found it amusing but also a little heartbreaking: "If Your Majesty likes it, I will have it made for you every year from now on."

Yun Qing could understand that when a tyrant truly seizes power, there are no longer any people around him with whom he can confide. The feelings formed during times of weakness become all the more precious.

I'm being nice to you now, so please be nice to me in the future.

Xie Rang gave a low "hmm," but it was unclear what he was responding to.

After dinner, Yunqing ordered the servants to bring up the cake. With her guidance, the chef was able to make it look quite good. She didn't bother with any fancy stuff; she just wanted the little tyrant to have a taste.

From her observation, the little tyrant seems to quite like sweets.

In the candlelight, Yun Qing's expression seemed to soften even more: "Your Majesty, try it and see if you like it?"

Yun Qing dismissed the servants. It was just the two of them here, so there was nothing else to worry about. Xie Rang personally cut two pieces and handed one to Yun Qing.

"The Grand Tutor also eats."

"good."

The chefs in the manor were quite skilled; the cream was whipped to perfection. Yun Qing felt a little full after eating, and glancing sideways, she noticed a speck of white beard on the little tyrant's lips. She couldn't help but chuckle: "Pfft—"

Xie Rang frowned slightly, his dark, round eyes filled with doubt. Before he could ask, Yun Qing took a handkerchief and wiped the corner of his lips.

"It's contaminated, Your Majesty."

Unfortunately, there were no cameras in ancient times, so Yun Qing couldn't capture this scene on camera. The little tyrant was concerned about his image, so she couldn't go too far.

Xie Rang was indeed annoyed: "Grand Tutor, you're laughing at me!"

"There's no way around it, His Majesty is just too adorable."

Yun Qing actually said it to his face this time.

Perhaps because he had been well cared for and had good nutrition during this period, Xie Rang grew up to be even more precious and noble. However, he was still a teenager, and Yun Qing, with her biased view, naturally thought he was still cute.

It's hard for someone to say something bad when you speak frankly and sincerely. Xie Rang thought about it for a long time but didn't know how to respond. In the end, Yun Qing took the initiative to help him out.

"It was my fault. I wish Your Majesty a happy birthday."
