Outside the palace walls, Chief Steward Wu stretched his neck and strained to peer inside. Half a day had passed, but there was still no sign of Chen Jingxi, and he couldn't help but feel anxious.
"Your Highness, the princess... wouldn't she have run into any trouble in the palace, right?" Butler Wu finally couldn't help it and turned to speak to the people in the carriage.
A calm voice came from inside the carriage: "No."
If anyone in the palace dared to touch Chen Jingxi, he would dare to overturn the entire palace.
Hearing this, Manager Wu felt a little relieved.
It was a well-known fact that Concubine De disliked his prince, and he was afraid that Chen Jingxi would meet with misfortune in the palace again. Therefore, as soon as he learned that Chu Jinghuai had returned to the palace, he informed him of Chen Jingxi's entry into the palace.
After a long while, Chen Jingxi finally appeared in the distance. She was dressed in gorgeous palace attire and walked lightly towards the palace gate.
Upon seeing this, Chief Steward Wu quickly stepped forward and took the orchid from her hand. "Princess, you're finally out! I was so worried about you."
Chen Jingxi smiled slightly and said softly, "Butler Wu, I'm fine. It's just that my father summoned me again, so I was delayed for a while."
After hearing this, Manager Wu finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Chen Jingxi boarded the carriage with ease. As soon as she entered, she saw Chu Jinghuai sitting upright. She smiled and asked, "Why are you here?"
Chu Jinghuai raised his eyes, a hint of fondness flashing in them, "I came to pick you up personally, and you're not happy? Could it be that you think I'm not considerate enough as your husband?"
Chen Jingxi chuckled, then sat down next to him, and put her hands into his arms very skillfully, "How could that be? My mobile warm baby, with you here, this carriage is much warmer."
Chu Jinghuai shuddered slightly at her sudden action, then shook his head helplessly and asked, "What does the emperor want to see you about?"
Chen Jingxi shrugged and said with a relaxed look, "It's nothing important. It just asked me to come to the palace more often to accompany my mother when I have time."
"What did you do to my mother?"
Chen Jingxi blinked and said innocently, "Nothing serious, I just took a few pots of orchids."
"How many pots did you take?"
Chen Jingxi chuckled and said, "All the orchids in her palace."
Chu Jinghuai's eyes twitched. His mother was famous for her obsession with orchids. She took care of them personally every day. Now, all of them were taken away by Chen Jingxi. He could imagine his mother's furious look.
"Why didn't mother strangle you to death?"
Chen Jingxi smiled triumphantly and said, "Before she tried to strangle me to death, I made her faint from anger."
Chu Jinghuai heard this and shook his head helplessly, but couldn't help but smile. His princess really had the ability to make people dizzy with anger.
Inside the Hall of Supreme Harmony, the emperor sat upright on the dragon throne, his brows relaxed in a rare expression.
The teacup in his hand swayed gently, and the hot steam rose, blurring his face but not hiding the smile in his eyes.
He was the first to know what happened in Jin'an Palace. The fact that Concubine De's face, which had remained unchanged for thousands of years, finally cracked today made him feel a little secretly happy.
Although he was unable to witness Concubine De's loss of composure with his own eyes, he felt very happy when he thought that her nemesis had finally appeared.
The gloom of the morning was swept away. This Princess Su is really a treasure! Not only is she extremely resourceful, she easily solved the issue of rising grain prices last time and slapped the faces of the aristocratic families. She can also easily make people like Concubine De lose their composure, and...
Thinking of this, the emperor couldn't help but feel a little regretful. If he had known that Chen Jingxi had such ability, he should have issued an order to let her enter the palace. Now, that rebellious son has benefited from it.
As soon as he returned to Prince Su's Mansion, Chu Jinghuai was invited away.
Chen Jingxi returned to her room. Chunmei hurriedly walked up to her, holding a bottle of potion in her hand. She smiled and said, "Princess, the ink on your face can be removed! This potion I got from the palace doctor. It's very effective. Just a few drops will work."
Chen Jingxi reached out and touched the thick makeup on her cheek. She almost forgot about it. No wonder Chu Jinghuai looked at her as if hesitant to speak. There was no kiss or hug. He just couldn't bring himself to express his feelings. He was such a superficial person.
She took the potion from Chunmei's hand and sniffed it gently. A faint herbal fragrance filled her nose. "Thanks to you, otherwise I would still have to live with this face."
Chunmei scratched her head sheepishly and said with a smile, "Your Highness, you are too kind. This is what I am supposed to do."
After saying that, she began to carefully wipe the ink off Chen Jingxi's face, while whispering to her about interesting things happening outside.
Chen Jingxi listened quietly, but her thoughts drifted back to the palace, recalling the conversation between her and the emperor.
"Princess Su, do you admit your guilt?" the emperor asked in a deep voice.
"I don't know, please tell me clearly, father."
"You caused your mother to faint from anger. This is a heinous crime, and you don't even know it?"
Chen Jingxi's heart tightened, but she remained calm and kowtowed, saying, "Your Majesty, I see clearly that Mother gave all the orchids in the palace to me. If Mother was angry, how could she have given orchids to me?"
"So I misunderstood you?"
"Your Majesty is a wise ruler. This is all my fault for causing you to misunderstand me."
The emperor finally smiled and said, "Get up."
"Thank you, Father."
The emperor hummed softly, then asked, "Jingxi, do you know why I want to marry you to Prince Su?"
Chen Jingxi pondered for a moment and replied, "I thank you for your kindness, Father. I believe that you value my character and talent, and believe that you and Your Highness can complement each other and serve you with loyalty and filial piety."
A glint of admiration flashed in the emperor's eyes, and he turned and asked, "Jingxi, are you willing to work for father?"
