Chapter 4

Chapter 4

As I sat down in the classroom, I could still feel the warmth of my senior's palm on my hand. But I didn't have time to think about his dark purple eyes that always seemed to be smiling. Today's first class was a specialized course within that major. After spending some time with him recently, I slowly realized that I could skip any other class, but not this one.

My deskmate was a girl with white hair and white eyes. Normally, in college, besides friends, you wouldn't have a fixed deskmate, but she was different. The moment our eyes met unexpectedly, she suddenly announced excitedly, "From now on, you're my exclusive deskmate!" I looked around in confusion, and then I saw everyone who had been watching the commotion lower their heads.

I'm pretty sure my college life is probably over.

Her name was Miki, and her surname was Tachibana. It was said to be a very famous surname in the history of her country, but I didn't know much about it. She always had smiling eyes that made people's eyes follow the three dots on her eyelids involuntarily; her eyebrows were round and lovely.

However, my makeup today is different from before.

The three dots above the eyes become an upward curve at the outer corner of the eye, and a thin, long golden line is drawn down between the eyebrows, so light in color that it is almost invisible. This also neutralizes the red on both sides: the shape of the dots on both sides of the vertical line is slightly thinner than the fluffy tail, like two petals supporting the dignified stamen in the middle.

There are actually a few more red dots in the middle section now. This breaks the overall symmetry; the red on one side represents tears, and the red on the other side represents flowers.

I was momentarily dazed.

The adornments had increased, but they appeared glamorous yet not gaudy, perfectly balanced against her current aura. Could a person change so much in just one night? Besides, she had told me that makeup was a distinctive feature of her people, and everyone looked different, so it couldn't be easily changed. If you changed or used it, it meant you were willing to lend your body to someone with that kind of makeup, or you were willing to abandon your identity and become a wandering traitor. In short, it was extremely important.

Now, when she sees me staring at her forehead again, she doesn't rudely criticize my impoliteness like she used to. She just says, "The teacher is here. Aren't you going to teach?"

The gray-haired professor was standing on the podium, preparing to turn on the Seewo whiteboard. I quickly looked away, wondering why I was so particularly affected.

Miki, on the other hand, didn't have this worry. She unusually took out a textbook that hadn't been written on at all, and with a hint of disdain, flipped it open and found the course content according to my progress.

She suddenly spoke to me: "You, show me your notes."

No matter what, I won't let her control me anymore. I said calmly, "I need it right away, you can ask for it after class."

She raised an eyebrow in slight surprise, and the golden light flickered. I slowly felt my heartbeat stabilize, and I became increasingly certain that she had learned some new magic: "Don't experiment on me with your new tricks next time, or tell me in advance."

Her eyes darted around, then she immediately smiled and kept moving closer to me, even trying to grab my hand: "I know, it's just for a little while, you stingy person."

I quickly dodged.

Luckily, there weren't many people around because of her temper, otherwise I wouldn't have had anywhere to hide. The professor flipped to the most important part of the slides, even though it might not be the most important part during the exam, I still carefully copied it down.

Miki lazily sized me up, her expression unreadable. I glanced at her out of the corner of my eye as I wrote, leaving a dent in the ink. I paused, remembering the anger I'd seen in her eyes earlier—not the kind of anger driven by emotion and losing its reason, but a fiery anger, determined to ignite me.

...It's very strange.

I started to wonder if Miki was possessed by someone. I don't consider myself to have a particularly strong will, but even I couldn't influence the Miki of the past, so this could only mean that the other person was stronger than Miki. Moreover, Miki has always been very cautious, so if she really did change her appearance out of curiosity one day, I'm more inclined to believe that some powerful being had taken over her body.

The more I think about it, the more discouraged I become. Why is it that when I was trying to encourage myself to fight back, I ended up sitting further and further away from the other side?

"Miki" was still smiling at me. She handed me the eraser, and seeing that I didn't take it, asked疑惑地, "Don't you need it?"

I wanted one too. I took it with difficulty, pretended to rub it a few times, and made the ink block even blacker.

"Miki": "..."

I:"……"

"Yumu" seemed to want to say something, but hesitated and didn't. She lay on the table with her eyes closed, her face still turned towards me. I felt that the golden line between "her" eyebrows had become unusual at this moment, but I couldn't be sure that it originated from the same source as Erlang Shen.

The professor's lecture touched on inspiring wisdom. This is a practical part of every class; with enough practice, even those without natural talent can grasp the basics, unless they're as dull and stubborn as a rock in a latrine.

These are the professor's exact words.

This is what the professor said to all the students in the class after he glanced at me.

The entire room was completely silent, so silent that I thought they had all realized it was me. Luckily, no one knows yet. I pretended to be immersed in my spiritual world, but actually secretly opened my eyes a crack to see where the professor had gone.

"Yumu" poked me again, scrutinizing me with her round eyes. I had to face her: "You seem very calm? Don't you think I'm taking over your friend's body?"

I asked "her" in a low voice, "If I'm scared, will you leave now?"

"Miki" laughed: "Oh, how could that be? You're so funny! But don't worry, I won't hurt your friend. Her name is Tachibana Miki, isn't it? It's a cute name. Of course, your name is cute too. I like yours the most, so you mustn't forget me!"

I'll never forget that lunatic "her," after all. How much have I actually experienced in this world?

I stopped talking and let my thoughts wander into the world of the spirit.

“You’re doing it wrong,” Miki said to me. “You won’t get in like this. You’re already unpopular, and you’re trying to use such a simple method. It’s going to be very difficult!”

I was a little confused: "Is there such a thing as being unpopular?"

Why am I not popular?

She seemed to read my mind and chuckled, "Of course, there's definitely a distinction between those who are welcome and those who aren't, otherwise everyone could go in, right? But don't overthink it, it's not that you're not welcome by them, it's that you don't welcome them."

This person seems to know quite a lot. I pressed "her" for details: "Excuse me, what does this mean?"

"Miki" suddenly stopped laughing and looked at me with a serious expression. I felt a little confused, and then something hard hit me on the back of the head.

I didn't even dare to lift my head, and silently sat facing forward.

After the professor left, I turned around dejectedly. "Miki" still had that serious look on his face. I heard "Miki" slowly say, "You're different from everyone else, aren't you?"

"Everyone tries to enter the world of spirits, but you are the one who is trying to enter the world of spirits. They know that they will be happiest when they are by your side, and that's why I came to you. You are the most special and the most important to us!"

She started joking around again with that nonchalant attitude. I ignored it all as trash talk: "So it still depends on your understanding! You have to accept them, believe that they really exist in the world, otherwise you'll see these spirits that like you die. Do you want to see? They've already started to glow like fireflies, and because of your stubbornness, they're really about to die!"

"Yumu" started smiling again, her whole demeanor exuding an innocent and carefree charm. I didn't know what "she" was talking about, and actually, I was a little afraid of what "she" was going to say.

I didn't understand. "Yuki" gripped my wrist with unexpected strength. "She" ignored my resistance, her eyes staring at me emotionlessly. I didn't want to know what was going to happen.

"She" let go of my hand: "How can you be so easily teased! How could I take you to see it? Everyone's spiritual world is different, and the channels they use are naturally different too! If I took you to see it, you could only see my world. Xiao Qinghe, your nervous look is so cute, be more careful next time." "She" smiled and waved at me: "get out of class has ended for a while now, I don't have class next period, okay? Are you reluctant to leave because you want me to stay with you? I'm really sorry, I don't have time either..."

I stared blankly at my wrist, unaware that the bell had rung. A little awkwardly, I thanked "her," saying, "...I don't want you to stay with me anymore. But thank you for this class, see you next time."

I'm going to be late if I don't hurry up and get out of here. I heard her voice fading into the distance, almost like a sigh. Of course, I couldn't hear what "she" was saying: "You don't even know my name... How can you so easily promise to meet again? Kiyokawa, you don't want to become a man who loves to play with people's hearts, do you?" If I had heard it, I would have given Miki a good whack on the head when I saw her.

I'm not that bold as to actually think about hitting "her".
