Chapter 714 A Pity

Fu Rongchen was Shangguan Boyan's most prized student. He was indeed exceptionally talented and capable. Xie Jingrun had taken a liking to his talent. However, the trip to Xuzhou did not necessarily require Fu Rongchen to go, which is why he asked this question.

Shangguan Boyan frowned, about to offer some advice, but Fu Rongchen spoke first: "I am a servant who is loyal to the emperor and has no fear of danger."

Seeing that he showed no sign of backing down, Xie Jingrun did not try to persuade him further. "Since you are willing to go, then this task will be entrusted to you."

"Thank you, Your Majesty!" Fu Rongchen expressed his gratitude.

After leaving the imperial study, Shangguan Boyan said worriedly, "Why didn't you refuse just now? I think the Emperor appreciates your talent. If you stay in the capital, you will have no worries about your future. Why take such a risk?"

Fu Rongchen said, "I volunteered to go to Xuzhou this time not for my future, but because I feel that the Prince of Xu has already harbored rebellious intentions. Whoever the Emperor sends to Xuzhou will die."

Upon hearing this, Shangguan Boyan was furious and said, "Since you knew that, why did you still go to your death?"

Fu Rongchen sighed, "Teacher, don't worry, I have my own way of getting out of here. If possible, I would also like to persuade Prince Xu not to oppose the court."

Shangguan Boyan had always known this student to be exceptionally intelligent and capable of acting with composure and thoroughness. Since he said this, it meant that he already had a plan.

Although she was still a little angry that he disregarded his own safety, she didn't say anything more.

"It's good that you know what you're doing. Now that you've taken on this task, you must be careful. If you sense anything amiss, don't linger; get out of there immediately," Shangguan Boyan instructed.

"The student understands," Fu Rongchen replied.

The trip to Xuzhou was urgent. Fu Rongchen went back and packed a few clothes before setting off. But when he thought of someone, he felt a pang of reluctance. He had intended to detour to the Prime Minister's residence, but to his surprise, as soon as he stepped out of the gate, he saw a carriage standing there. The driver was Changlin, and two unfamiliar young men were riding horses, standing guard on either side of the carriage.

Upon seeing Changlin, Fu Rongchen paused, vaguely guessing what was going on.

"Lord Fu, please get in the carriage." Changlin jumped down from the carriage and gestured for him to get in.

Fu Rongchen did not hesitate for long before getting into the carriage as instructed.

When he lifted the carriage curtain and saw the young emperor sitting inside, he wasn't too surprised.

"Your humble servant pays his respects to Your Majesty."

"Minister Fu, you may rise." Xie Jingrun put down the book he was reading and said calmly, "Please sit down."

Fu Rongchen sat down to the side.

"Do you know why I am waiting here?" Xie Jingrun asked.

"Your Majesty, I am foolish and ignorant, please enlighten me," Fu Rongchen said respectfully.

Xie Jingrun was silent for a moment, then suddenly said, "I have an irreconcilable hatred for Prince Xu. It's only a matter of time before he rebels."

Fu Rongchen said, "Does His Majesty believe that Prince Su's matter is inextricably linked to Prince Xu?"

"Yes, so your trip to Xuzhou is extremely dangerous. You might be beheaded before you even see the King of Xu," Xie Jingrun glanced at him and warned.

"Your Majesty need not worry about my life or death," Fu Rongchen said calmly.

“No, you are a talented man. It would be a real pity if you died in Xuzhou.” Xie Jingrun said, taking out a token and handing it to him. “This is a dispatch order, which can mobilize troops in one area. When the time comes, you should act according to the situation. If the King of Xu makes any unusual moves, you don’t need to ask me for permission. You can directly dispatch troops nearby to quell the rebellion for the court.”
